Horacio Spina

I've been seeing Dr.Spina for 18 years. He's the best. I've definitely had some difficulty problems and he's always there to listen and/or make suggestions or changes in meds. He really knows his stuff!

I initially reached out to Dr. Spina because I was completely overwhelmed and out of ideas to help myself. Since then, I've been very happy with my progress - I feel like a fog has lifted: I'm less depressed, taking better care of myself, more energetic have more control, and tools I can turn to to lower anxiety. Compared to others I've seen in the past, I'd say he listens more carefully and is more open. His approach has put me at ease, which has helped me better explain myself, even though that can generally be difficult for me. There has never been any pressure to take medication - it's always an informational discussion about the possibilities and their pros and cons. In fact, there's a specific medication I took in the past that I don't want to take again, and he completely respects that choice and encourages me to make such decisions for myself. It's clear that he wants to help and he has been available by phone, email, and text between in-person appointments. Highly recommended.

Like others have mentioned, Dr. Spina and his practice are what other providers should aspire to be. I have cycled through many mental health professionals, usually leaving after a few months because I felt ignored. Becoming a patient at his practice is the best decision I have made.

Perfection. That's how I describe Dr. Spina. He is the epitome of what one can hope for in a physician, a psychiatrist, a human. He is an amazing doctor, who's treatment approach is working together with the patient every step along the way. He listens, has conversations, is compassionate, and truly has a vested interest in the wellbeing of all of his patients. Dr. Spina's calling is obviously to help his patients live their best life, whether that is through talk therapy or meds. 15/10. :)

Excellent physician. Dr. Spina works not only to diagnose and treat, but help you, the patient, understand the importance of self awareness and care.

Ever since I stepped foot into Dr. Spina's office, every health concern I've had has been met with the utmost respect, care, and compassion. Every other psychiatrist I have ever been to never took into account what I had to say about my experiences. Dr. Spina has been a breath of fresh air and I am so grateful that I have found him! He communicates with me between sessions and checks in on me, which is something that really speaks volumes to how much he really cares.

Dr Spina is the type of psychiatrist that all doctors in this field should aspire to be like. This doctor listens, doesn’t judge, helps you find your way. For more years than I can count, Dr Spina has always been available when needed. He has provided the appropriate support and is always able to explain things in terms that are understandable. And, he gets me. Honestly, I hope he never retires.

I’ve had full confidence in doc for over 15 years since we first met. Unlike some psychiatrists, doc treats you as a person and not cattle. Great man. Highly recommend.

I cannot say enough positive things about Dr. Spina. I started seeing him after I had already tried six other doctors, who were awful. I was in a very bad mental state at my first appointment. I had almost given up hope. Now, nearly 3 years later I am a completely different person. I look forward to my visits because I learn so much. Dr. Spina is such a lovely, respectable person. He is genuinely a caring physician and it reflects in his treatment modalities.

I have been going to Dr. Spina for years and I find him to be a very caring man. He is always willing to explain things that you have questions about in terms you can understand. I would highly recommend him.

When I was referred by my primary care doctor to see a psychiatrist I was indifferent, but boy was it a blessing! I found Dr.Spina after searching in the Pittsburgh area & I do not think my words could express or do his quality of care justice. Dr.Spina scheduled me immediately & from the start, he treated me like family. It is no question that he genuinely cares about his patients & takes the time to know & help YOU, not just a diagnosis. I have been seeing Doctor Spina for many years now. He is an excellent doctor. He is easy to talk to. Very comforting. He is so great at what he does and has helped me with my anxiety tremendously. He is also very professional. I would recommend him to anyone that has any kind of depression or anxiety. He is the best doctor I have ever gone to. I can’t thank him enough.

One of the most unique Drs I have met. He is courteous & pleasant during sessions.He is down to earth and does not push medications on you . He listens to your concerns about meds . I Have been a patient of Dr. Spina's for 16 years. I was referred to him after a had a not so great experience with another Psychiatrist. My experience has been nothing but wonderful with him. He has helped me so much and is always available if you need him in an emergency. A lot of Psychiatric doctors just prescribe you medicine and send you on your way. Not Dr. Spina. He asks a lot of questions on how you are feeling, I can absolutely tell him anything! He is the Best!!!

My experience with Dr. Spina over the years has been exceptional. He doesn't prejudge you, he is very caring, patient and a good listener. He can take the most difficult situation and make an analogy to make it easier to move forward to a solution which can really lift your spirits quickly. He responds promptly to your text messages and makes scheduling easy. Most importantly he has many years of experience to draw from and is up to date with the latest treatments and research.

Dr. Spina is a great listener, and very caring fir his patients. He has allowed me to be part of the decision making process regarding medication. Another thing i appreciate very much is his responsiveness. Reaching him to change appointment times, with medication questions, etc is very convenient through text message. This has been a very posotive experience for me!

Dr. Spina has been my psychiatrist for over ten years. He has been there for me through everything. Compassionate, funny, easy to talk to. Very knowledgeable about medications. Makes sure that you plan your treatment TOGETHER. I’ve learned so much about myself through our conversations. He was a comforting and understanding presence in times of crisis. I wouldn’t be where I am today without him. He has truly been such a joy to work with. Best psychiatrist I’ve ever had.

I was pleasantly surprised. He gave me feedback on some of the problems I was having. I was having a serious breakdown when I need to be seen by psychiatrist. He got me in right away as a new patient. He gave me ideas on how to resolve some of the issues at hand and how to handle them. A lot of people think psychiatrists are supposed to give you therapy. But technically they are supposed to diagnose and give you medicine. However this psychiatrist did both. I would highly recommend him to anyone

As understanding and empathetic of a physician as they come. You will be very hard pressed to find a physician like Dr. Spina if at all anymore. I believe he has retired or only takes on very very few clients but I am not positive. A wonderful guy, talks to you grounded as a human being to human being as it should be. God Bless the guy.
