Dr. Hans Christian Burkholder

Responsive, efficient; answered all my questions; didn't hurt a bit!

If I told you he told me banding my hemorrhoid wouldn't hurt, and he was as good as his word--would you believe me? Couldn't have been a smoother (dare I say pleasant?) experience.

What an amazing doctor. More importantly an amazing human being. Considerate, patient, caring - a true professional. He was so attentive to my mom's every need. Always there to answer any and all questions no matter how many times I asked them. Continuously called to follow up on her well-being. Two weeks post-surgery and still reaching out to see how she's doing. God Bless him.

I had a bad experience with this physician. Dr. Burkholder diagnosed with regionally advanced rectal cancer. He said that he would have to remove my rectum, lymph nodes and prostate. He told me that the surgery was major entailing two incisions, He said that I would need a colostomy bag for the rest of my life. He added that I would be hospitalized for a week followed possibly by two weeks in a rehabilitation facility. I consulted another surgeon at a leading Manhattan hospital who treated me with concurrent chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Now, more than a year after completing treatment I remain cancer free without the major surgery Dr. Burkholder said I needed. So, beware. Plus his office is not well run. His staff had problems scheduling my initial biopsy, I was then given the wrong hospital to report to. I regret that I cannot recommend this doctor.

I'm over the moon with his patient care from the very start. He treats the person and not the patient. I'm still in disbelief and it's been almost three months. My family truly admires the doctor as well.

Dr. Burkholder represents what patient caring is about- gentle, compassionate, great manners, knowledgeable; great listener and involve patient in decision making. All doctors, especially surgeons, should be like him. He sets a high bar and taking care of patients should be no less. Congratulations to you, Dr. Burkholder for being in your own outstanding lane! Anyone who has colorectal issues, even from out of state should go to you. You are a gift to us!
