H William Schaaf

Incredible experience all the way around. A great surgeon, fast recovery, great nursing team, excellent Physical Therapy contact, very nice room for overnight stay, and even very good food. I would recommend Rothman Limerick to anyone, and especially Dr. Schaaf for hip replacement.

Dr. Schaaf replaced my right knee in August 2009 and did a great job. I now need my left knee replaced and I wouldn’t think of going to anyone else.

Took the time to listen, explained his findings and recommendations so that I could understand, never felt rushed, the staff was professional and caring.

Dr. Schaaf was more than kind. As a new patient (being a bit concerned) he inspired confidence, explaining all that the procedure involved. I feel fortunate that I found him.

Dr Schaaf replaced my L knee a year ago and I’ve been very pleased with his practice, patient skills, and support staff. Would not hesitate to have him do another procedure if my mobility calls for it.

In the past 2 1/2 years, Dr. Schaaf has replaced both of my knees and my right hip. Couldn't ask for a more kind, caring and professional surgeon. If I had any questions after my surgeries, just had to call and his assistant always got back to me promptly. Dr. Schaaf and Sarah are the best and I would recommend them highly.

Dr. Shaaf was an excellent surgeon for my hip replacement. My quality of life is very much improved. I felt I was monitored well after surgery and all my questions were answered. The staff at Rothman, Limerick, are friendly, prompt, and knowledgeable. Highly recommend.

Third replacement surgery at Rothman's surgical center in Limerick, Pa. Entire staff is amazing and supportive. Dr. Schaaf did a wonderful job on two of the replacements and I'm back to a great quality of life!

Dr. Schaaf recently performed a TKR on my left side. His detailed explanation to all alternatives was appreciated and he was available until all my questions were addressed. Dr. Schaaf and his staff are wonderful. They are all very caring and are quick to return calls. Dr.Schaaf takes the time to explain everything and answers all questions. I had a knee replacement 8 weeks ago and so glad that I had it done. The surgery went well and I hope to have the other knee done by Dr. Schaaf sometime in the future.

Dr. Schaaf laid out what facts and expectations of total hip replacement surgery. He would not say what others usually do at my stage and said it was totally up to me. I then waited two years and decided it was time. I had my surgery done across the street at Physician's Care Surgical Hospital. Pre-admission surgery testing was not good due to Covid protocols at the hospital and really poor communication at my initial visit. It took my primary care physician to clear me one day before surgery which was very stressful since I had a business to close down temporarily or not. Once ironed out, post surgery there was about one nurse for every two patients and efficient. Dr. Schaaf was on time and there to review post-op right after I awoke. It was one overnight stay. I left with a walker and the following day was the last time I used it. Not everyone can transition from walker to walking (no cane) so quickly, with meds I had very little pain. I thought stairs and showering would require some work, but I had no trouble. In 10 days I was back to work, but afterward work rested and elevated. Bruising was mainly on the back of my leg just above the knee. Swelling was up and down but manageable. I'm a little three weeks out and doing well. Prior to surgery I was not frail so I assume that aided in such a speedy recovery. I could not recommend anyone higher than Dr. Schaaf, just realize Rothman is a mega-medical group so you're dealing with call centers and voice mail. Miss a cellphone call don't expect to re-dial, you must sit and wait for round two. So, from a hip perspective I wouldn't go any other physician. It was virtually painless with a speedy recovery. One year ago had both my knees done at Rothman Institute in Limerick at Surgical Center. Thanks to Dr. Schaaf for doing a fantastic job. My knees are 100% . I would highly recommend him if you are in need of a knee replacement. The rest of the staff was very helpful and personable.

Rothman Institute (Limerick) is a well organized and professional institution that I would recommend to anyone. Dr. Shaaf performed TKR's on both my knees and I'm extremely pleased with the outcomes. Although Covid19 complicated the scheduling for a while, the whole process from diagnoses to surgeries then recoveries couldn't have gone better. I definitely made the right decision to get both knees replaced. Dr. Shaaf was recommended by 2 friends of mine and he exceeded their endorsement. Before each TKR surgery , recoveries, and the many follow-up visits, I felt like I was meeting with a friend. I had my hip replaced and Dr. Schaff and staff was awesome through the whole experience. Don't want to do it again, haha, but will recommend to all as I have zero complaints 2 weeks out.

Dr. Schaaf took the time to explain the procedure and listened to the questions I had regarding it. I had a repair to my left knee done by Dr. Schaaf several years ago and he was fantastic. Procedure went well and fixed the problem. No issues, great Doctor. Would highly recommend him and the Rothman office.

I had been seen by another orthopaedic practice and they missed diagnosing a hip which needed replacement because pain manifested in my knee. Dr. Schaaf picked up on it immediately, recommended surgical replacement and here I am a few months later living my life to the fullest!

had left knee replaced in June of 2019. I was expecting a better quality of life after the operation. unfortunately the pain was still there and after 6 months after the operation I told the doctor it wasn't feeling well it was hurting every time I tried to bend it it was in constant pain and he said you have to give it time. so here it is a year and 3 months later and nothing's changed from that 6 month time frame when I saw it it still hurts just as much as before the operation doesn't bend all the way and I don't think I would do this again on the other need no matter how much pain I have had left knee replaced in June of 2019. What a great doctor and practice. I had a knee replacement and was very happy with the outcome of the surgery the service and the follow up. I would highly recommend them.

Dr. Schaaf has done both of my knees and I can't say enough good about him. He cares for his patients and treats them with kindness and caring. If I had a third knee I'd go to him again.

Had my 2nd knee replacement by Dr Schaaf at Rothman. Could not say enough. The care they give you at their inpatient hospital and the expertise of Dr Schaaf are exemplary. They make the whole experience comfortable. I wholeheartedly recommend them.

I have lived with severe hip pain for 2 years now. I was taking 800mg of Motrin daily...sometimes twice a day. I saw Dr Schaaf in the beginning of the year (2019) and chose to wait through the summer to have my left hip replaced. Now that it is been replaced I feel like a new man! No pain! I have been under the care of Dr. H. William Schaaf, MD @ Rothman Institute in Limerick/Royersford, PA. His knowledge and expertise in Orthopaedic surgery is absolutely amazing. I had my right knee replacement September 10, 2019 and am looking forward to getting my left knee done in a few months. My healing process, wound and incision site are doing great. I’ve been told by many who have had the surgery elsewhere, they can’t believe how my knee looks and overall how fast I am recovering. Dr. Schaaf is very personable, answering all of my questions in detail prior to surgery. I had two total hip replacements and he showed me the artificial joint he would be using, allowing me to hold it and see how it worked. I highly recommend him as a surgeon.

Dr Schaaf is an excellent surgeon! I had a bilateral knee replacement a year ago with an excellent recovery. Before the surgery I was in too much pain to walk or even stand. I did not want to spend the rest of my life like that. Dr Schaaf has a calm manner and explains options available and made sure we understood the surgery and rehabilitation. My husband and I just returned from a 4 week trip to France where we walked daily and I climbed many stairs with no pain. I really got my life back!

After seeing numerous orthopedic surgeons in Reading with no results I decided to go to Rothman Institute. Dr Schaaf’s credentials and profile were outstanding, which led me to him and I couldn’t have made a better choice. I had a right hip replacement on April 10th at Physicians Surgical Hospital and have been walking totally unassisted with no pain for over a week. He’s the best and I would give him, his nurse Sarah, and the entire facility an A+. I highly recommend Dr. Schaaf.

I have had 2 total knee replacements performed by Dr. Schaaf. In each instance he made sure I knew what to expect, from the procedure to medicine to physical therapy. He was recommended to me by a relative, and I absolutely recommend him to others who are looking at knee replacements. He has a nice sense of humor, easy to talk to and answers any questions, making sure you are comfortable with and understand the information.
