Dr. Gregory David Riebel

Appointment within a week after back injury. Tests done a few days later and surgery scheduled quickly. Immediate relief after surgery. Very grateful for the doctor and his staff!

Hello! Today my visit with Dr. Riebel was so overwhelming that I cried, for the first time in many months I was completely blown away by a surprise. It appears that I have some new bone growth after my suffering it was amazing to see this!

I met with Dr. Riebel for a second opinion. He listened and was open to my questions and concerns, took the time to provide information/education about them. I was most impressed when he stated to me, "get back to life," which gave me hope and reassurance. If I need further or other orthopedic services, I will return to see him.

Had excruciating pain connected to my sciatic nerve with pain running down my leg. (On scale of 1 - 10, I would have said 12. Never had pain like that.) Could not get any relief. Called VA Orthopedic and quickly got an appointment with Dr. Riebel on June 24. First time I met him. I felt like he listened and understood my discomfort and what was happening. We made a plan and in less than 5 days, I am pain free. He explained what was going on and recommended a plan, which worked. Highly recommend Dr. Riebel. My experience at Virginia Orthopedics has always been outstanding. Dr. Riebel is the absolute best in both knowledge and "bedside manner". In addition, the staff members are always nice, courteous and very helpful. They are more interested in what they can do to help instead of how can I make you more miserable with minutia today. I had an appointment at 10:30 at Dr Riebel's office. I arrived about 7 minutes late because I went to Lewis Gale in Salem, VA by accident. I let them know when I arrived and no one expressed any concern. I completed yearly paperwork and waited about 40 minutes. At this point, a lady came from the back and let me know that Dr. Riebel could not see me because of the time it took to complete paperwork. I completed the paperwork in 10 minutes. I took off from work for this appointment. I was extremly frustrated that I sat there for about 40 minutes before they realized he could not see me. My time is valuable too. I went to Dr Reibel I couldn’t walk! I had surgery out patient surgery a few weeks later and came out with out a Cain! I’m having problems now on the other side of my back and returning to him for more treatment! Trust this man he’s is a trust worthy doctor!

Doc is very thorough and informative.

Why are we seeing PA's instead of our regular physician? I could understand if you are coming in because of an emergency but these appointments are made weeks in advance. Why does a PA look you right in the eye and say a steroid shot last forever? The remedy isn't to take a pill every 4 to 6 hours the remedy is repair the problem. I'm so very happy to be free of the synovial cyst at L4 that caused so much discomfort for 5 1/2 months. Had my followup visit this past Friday, and am now able to walk and do minimal exercises. All office events and surgical procedures were timely and professional both in office and at Lewis Gale. I truly appreciate the care I was given. I am so grateful to Dr. Riebel and his PA Jennifer for orchestrating a plan of action for my spinal stenosis diagnosis. My sciatic nerve was being pinched in several locations and after several surgeries he was successful in his goal of correcting my problems. He was sincere, caring and kind to me every step of the way and I am so thankful to them for sticking with me. NOW I AM WALKING WITHOUT PAIN. Thank you Dr Riebel and Jennifer. He's an outstanding surgeon. Twice he's worked me into his schedule on short notice, once staying late when I broke my hand. Another time I needed back surgery, and he offered to let me go home and think about it. I immediately decided to have the surgery, and he said that if I didn't mind waiting, he'd work me in the very next time he performed surgery. Two days later, I was good as new by early afternoon. He's very good at explaining why something hurts and outlining the options for pain management. I wouldn't trust anyone but Greg with my spine.

Great. He explained what was causing my lower back pain and explained in detail the choices I have in order to try to relieve the pain. I am going to try the PT first and hopefully it will help. If not, I will see him again to decide what to do next. He is always willing to listen patiently while I describe my symptoms. He has a wonderful bedside manner and cares deeply about your concerns and makes sure you have all your questions answered before you leave his office. He always says if you need me, I am here for you. He treated me for multiple injuries in l999 and I could not have asked for a better doctor. He also has one of the highest ratings of spine surgeons in the US and we are so fortunate to have him here.

This guy's a joke diagnosed a problem did not follow up, has the personility of a rock,doesn't care don't see him him it is a waste of time,he doesn't care

He is a great surgeon he has helped me tremendous i would recommend him to anyone great job great surgeon.

Dr. Riebel has operated on my husband and myself and we couldn't be more pleased with the outcome of both surgeries. Dr. Riebel also did back surgery on my mother and was the one and only reason that she was able to walk the last seven years of her life. He has awesome doctor-patient communication skills and in our opinion he is the top orthopedic surgeon in the Roanoke Valley. I had spinal fusion 10/18 the surgery went well. I’ve got my life back I am walking between 4 and 5 miles daily. I am also doing low intensity yoga. Thanks Dr. Riebel

I had no idea about the clinic till yesterday March 18, 2019. I called to see if I could get an appointment with Dr. Riebel, he was in surgery all day. This is when I learned about the urgent care clinic. I had been having knee pain for 9 days. I went to the urgent care desperate, the PA Jacob Sakiey recommended the cortisone shot. I was terrified. What a relief today its still painful but much improved. I hate shots but this was nothing compared to the pain I had been in. Highly recommend.

Wasted 3 hours of our time to come out for appointment to just sit and wait for a 5 minute conversation that could have been held over the phone.

This doctor was terrible. He spent three minutes with me and told me my back hip and knee pain might be a cyst on my ovary or a bladder or kidney infection with no other symptoms. He was very impersonable and did not seem to give a crap. Mind you I am a fit 28 year old female with no history of health problems. My gynecologist was confused by the tests he ordered in order to rule out something that seemed unrelated to my presenting symptoms. I have no nausea, pain when urinating and my back pain has improved at times so this really does not fit with my symptoms. I also told him I frankly don't have enough money to fool around with anything unlikely and come to find out ultrasounds cost $300 and I am a social worker. Do not go see him he does not care at all and is obviously a complete idiot. Waste of my time. This doctor was terrible. Great Doctor

Dr Riebel has completed two surgeries for me; a neck fusion and a TLIF. He is a very nice man with a wonderful bedside manner. I recommend him to anyone I know who has back/spine problems. He truly cares about his patients.

I had to have fusion surgery, and it was a long time coming. I put it off as long as I could. He had successfully did the kyphoplasty surgery on my mother twice and this is why I chose him. In 9/15 ,I explained that I was out of work and on cobra ins. and if he thought I would need surgery I wanted it done before the end of the year. He said no problem. 11/15 after injections and PT, he said to go ahead with the surgery...they would call me. surgery was 2/16 not enough room. dont go here

He never returns your phone calls I have had to call multiple times to get a answer to any questions. One of the calls was in regards to me returning to work and I was still in a lot of pain and I had almost quit my job. I feel like I was just brushed off and referred to pain management. Even with knowing how much pain I was in and I was about to be without insurance he didn't even recommend shot on first visit to pain management.
