About Gladys A. Beale
Reviews for Gladys A. Beale
I was a patient of Dr Beale twice when I was admitted into an inpatient treatment center as a minor. I have never had such a terrible experience with a psychiatrist in my life, and I’ve seen a lot of them. She wrote multiple times in my chart that i was “attention seeking” as opposed to having an actual mental illness. I was a 13 year old girl covered in self harm marks. Whether or not it was for “attention,” there was clearly a problem. She put in my chart that my mother abused me, which I never expressed to her or even alluded to. She completely dismissed every complaint I had or issue I expressed. Her treatment plan for me? “Learn better coping skills and stop seeking negative attention.” She prescribed me an antidepressant and sent me on my way with no plan of care, no safety plan, nothing. I avoided getting help for years because my experience with Dr Beale made me feel so discouraged. I genuinely believed her, and thought that maybe I wasn’t sick after all, maybe I was just making it all up. I’m now 21 and have been diagnosed 2x with Bipolar II after many more hospitalizations. Turns out the antidepressants Dr Beale placed me on so carelessly we’re making me worse, not better. I now go to Bowen Center and see Dr Devokta and couldn’t be happier. They assured me that, no, this wasn’t all in my head, and I wasn’t doing it “for attention.” Dr Beale has no business working with minors with mood disorders or self harming tendencies, especially not teenage girls. It genuinely almost seemed like she had some sort of internal mysogyny. I felt like it was the 1960s and I was being treated for hysteria everytime I sat across from her. I regret everyday not filing a complaint against this woman, so this is the best I can do. If you’re considering an appointment with her and have anything other than garden-variety depression, don’t.
An absolute nightmare! We recently found that she has wrongfully and permanently noted my daughter as autistic years ago without any testing. It was her opinion of “you have a large imagination” as her thesis. She is now stating that my daughter will need testing to prove that she does NOT have autism. How much extra money will that get you right before the holiday’s, lady? She has also tormented my daughter for years with overly dramatized sessions and has prescribed incredible amounts of medications that has my daughter in tremors. We have requested to stop the medications. READ THESE REVIEWS and notice the similarities of over-prescribing and unnecessary situations of her previous clients. An absolute nightmare! I saw Gladys Beale (psychiatrist) when I was a teenager for about a year or two maybe? I first saw her in April 2006 during freshman year. I saw a licenced counselor for a few years previously for depression in middle school, but my parents seemed to think i was "cured" and stopped sending me to her (she was amazing and I still miss her!). When I first saw Gladys Beale, my depression had developed into bipolar disorder. She prescribed Depokote and said it was an anti-seizure medicine that does well with bipolar. Ok, cool. She's the professional, no problem. Well, when we had our sessions, she'd stare off into space and twirl her hair and chew on her pen and play with her scarf. She [very obviously] was uninterested in anything I said and didn't listen anyways (I had to repeat myself a lot since zoning out was more important), so I didn't talk much if I didn't have to and I didn't tell her the extent of my problems. She'd ask every few months (I think? This was a decade ago, but it takes a bit to see how effective medicine is) how my Depokote was working and it wasn't. It never did anything to me. She'd raise or lower my dosage. That's it. Never tried any other medicine. I finally told my parents she was a quack and I needed a real therapist. I wasn't getting the help I needed, so we found Pancner and Associates on the south side of Fort Wayne where I worked with Dr Pancner (psychiatrist) and Paul Pancner (son and psychologist) to get help. I don't know if anyone else has had a better experience with Gladys Beale, but I felt like she was a nut job. Or just doesn't care. Or maybe that's just my experience! Again, this was over a decade ago, so maybe things have changed. Either way, good luck on finding a qualified therapist! She was great! She didn’t rush us and explained things thoroughly. I saw the bad review on here and was a little nervous for the appointment. However, it went great!
