After I expressed my concerns that I believe most of my symptoms are related to undiagnosed ADHD, she asked me many questions only to say that because I had high grades in school there was no chance that I could have ADHD. This is contrary to current research and an extremely outdated theory related to ADHD (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25359760/). She ended the appointment by telling me definitively that I DON'T have ADHD while telling me that "maybe" my symptoms were due to anxiety or bipolar disorder. How can you definitively tell me I don't have something but then not provide a definitive diagnosis? Every time I explained a symptom that I have researched as related to ADHD, she found a different excuse, even though all the symptoms put together could be explained by ADHD. She told me some people are just sensitive via personality, she told me everyone loses focus sometimes (which is extremely condescending as this has been a life long problem), and she told me that being overwhelmed in college was due to anxiety (any anxiety was only caused by procrastinating my assignments due to not being able to focus on my school work..). She apparently does not see how anxiety can be a comorbid condition caused by ADHD (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31232613/). She also told me I should be happy that she didn't diagnose me. How could I be happy to still not have answers to my lifelong problems? She clearly needs to improve her own continuing education because I have been researching ADHD for a year and obviously am better educated than her. For all I know, she took one ADHD class in school years ago and has not kept up with current information. All of this was after 9 months waiting for an appointment with her. In addition, she is extremely judgmental when it comes to social drinking and will shame you if you have 1-2 drinks every couple weeks. She will refuse to evaluate you unless you quit drinking completely. Again, substance abuse can be a morbid condition caused by ADHD and the substance abuse may not get better until the ADHD is treated (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4414493/).
