I WAS a patient here. I had a chalazion removed from my eyes and was told my prescription was be sent to the pharmacy. Being that I just had the procedure I had to have my mom and boyfriend go to the pharmacy numerous times to get my prescription. I was told by the doctor that he would send my prescription and I could pick it up and start using my drops. After numerous phone calls and trips to the pharmacy I didn’t receive my prescription until my 3rd phone call to the on call service where I threatened to sue if I got an infection from their lack of competence. Once the script was sent I had to transfer it to a different pharmacy being that they sent it after 12am and my pharmacy was already closed. The department director attempted to place blame on the ma or nurse for not sending the prescription to him for approval, HOWEVER, I was in the room when she sent it. Fast forward a week later, I had a 7:30am appointment for a follow up. It was already past 8:30am and I was still in the waiting area. When I questioned how long I would have to wait, I was then brought into a room and told rudely “the doctor is not here yet but you can wait in here”, I asked why I was given my appointment time if he would not be in and how long would it take for him to finally see me to which she answered I don’t know when he’ll be in. I cancelled my appointment and reached out to the director since it was completely unacceptable. She however made nothing but excuses. I was given a follow up with another doctor and then billed a copay months later because my follow up didn’t fall within the “10 day timeframe”. If the staff was competent, they’d see I had an appointment which I had to cancel after waiting an hour due to their doctor not being in the office. This entire office was just a mess and horrible experience. I have since switched my care to another ophthalmologist outside of northwell, who I might add went to Harvard and UCLA and is an absolute gem and overall great bedside manner. I no longer have unreasonable wait times and my doctor actually shows up for his appointments. Not to mention, his staff is phenomenal. I do NOT recommend this practice or this doctor and have steered others away from this horrible experience. Don’t waste your valuable time on a doctor who has no respect for your time! This review is about northwell health and the offices service. I was charged TWICE for a contact lenses fitting and DOUBLE the amount the second time. I tried calling the office for almost TWO months now and they NEVER return my call. I always get told they’re sorry and that they’ll send an urgent note to the manager but the manager never gets back to me, no one does. Now the bill is going to collections and my credit score is going to be ruined because of this. I’m extremely disappointed with this service and I feel like my only option left is to go to the office in person which is extremely inconvenient because it means I have to take time out of work to go there to solve an issue that should have been solved months ago. I visited Dr. Abrahams here and I have been trying to reach her to let her know about this charge because it’s been a constant back and forth with billing and the office. Billing tells me I need to contact the office, then the office tells me I need to contact billing. No one can give me answers. PLEASE get back to me already this is extremely unfair. Excellent and professional service. The Nurse was efficient and knowledgeable. Dr. Hirshfield was warm and professional. He explained every detail in layman's term. He did not push me to get any procedure or new glasses. The facility and exam room was clean and organized. All staff members were friendly. Wait time is average. Nice for a first visit. Thanks, much appreciated.
He's a good doctor but his bedside manner needs to improve 100%. Also the waiting time was ridiculous. If I have a 7:00am appointment, I should not be leaving close to 10:00am. The nurses were a little rude. If I'm standing in front of you, please acknowledge me and do not be on the phone. I was truly unhappy with my visit.
I have been seeing Dr. Hirschfield for 27 years now. I am finding many of these negative reviews somewhat hard to believe. He has never been anything other than competent, empathetic, caring and efficient.

Worse Experience Ever I visited this doctor because of Northwell Health. This was my worse experience I ever had in my life and I wish I never took my 15-year-old child to Gary Hirshfield. He yelled at my child because he perceived him to have an attitude. He was yelling at my son that he has an attitude and that he can leave right now, he will get nowhere in life, no one will want to treat him, and he doesn’t have to come back and he kept on going and going on and on. Dr. Hirshfield granted me an emergency appt. even though I wasn't a patient of his. He identified a serious condition and treated it effectively. A true professional.
Unless you are willing to wait three (3) hours to see this doctor don't bother. People in the waiting room were screaming having to wait for two hours to three hours and still not being able to see the doctor. We walked out and do one seemed to care. Doctors have to understand that my time is worth money. Who is doing to reimburse me for my time lost?

Dr. Hirshfield is absolutely top notch, and left me (after cataract surgery) with perfect vision, requiring only reading glasses. His procedure was absolutely painless and quick, with no post op discomfort whatsoever. I could not recommend him more highly... and he is the best and brightest in his field, as far as I am concerned. Came into medical practice after Ivy League Medical School, and was Chief Resident after medical school! You simply cannot do better!!!

Omg this doctor is very very rude.He is extremely rude. You can't even ask him a question. Like the other comment stated he is very dismissive to his patients. Not a friendly and professional doctor. The staff is sweet. But him I must say I am very disappointed wit the fact as a patient I can't communicate with my doctor in a friendly yet professional manner. He don't like to be ask question. Hirshfield was the rudest dr. I have ever encountered thus far. Never in my life have I been treated with such blatant disrespect at medical office. From the time he entered the patient room, he proclaimed that he can't help me with my contacts, as only the ophthalmologist could do that (which we obviously knew). He was confused why we demanded to see him-there was no demand, I inquired to confirm that I could see both doctors. He was condescending and extremely dismissive. I will NEVER return
