Reviews for Dr. Frank M. Phillips
Excellent visit, kind and professional staff. Thank you very much! Don
Everyone at any of the midwest orthopedic offices has vever been anything but pleasing to deal with!
Dr. Phillips was paid by workcomp to do an IME - 2 other Dr's stated it was a major back injury. Dr Phillips puts me back to full duty, only to be hurt again a week later (same injury) so for me, he is a paid empty suit.

Unless Dr. Frank Phillips is the only orthopedic surgeon in your area, I would not recommend him. Dr. Phillips gave me hope during my first and only visit with him. I came in barely able to move my neck. I was in so much pain. He acknowledged that this was all due to the bulging discs in my neck and the cushion having worn down, which he saw through my MRI scans and x-rays. He prescribed me medication, physical therapy, and referred me to another specialist to get a shot in my neck. He said if I found the treatment plan to be a waste of time after trying it for a few weeks, to call him so that they could get me into his office sooner than our scheduled 6 week follow up appointment. At that point we could talk surgery options. I was thrilled to have a clear treatment plan and the possibility of a surgery. I felt I was in good hands. During my first physical therapy visit, I was unable to continue because of the amount of pain I was in. My therapist could not even massage my neck. She emailed Dr. Phillips on the spot and wrote him that the therapy would not help in my case. In her professional opinion, I needed the surgery. Dr. Phillips office moved my follow up appointment so that I could see him sooner. I was so grateful that I wouldn’t have to wait a full 6 weeks given the pain I was in. I needed relief. A week and a half before I was scheduled to see Dr. Phillips, I woke up in the middle of the night with pain and tightness in my neck, muscle spasms in the back of my head, and dizziness. I was not able to go to work the next day. I called Dr. Phillips office to see if I could get in sooner. I didn’t see how I could carry on like this for another week and a half. His physician assistant was able to move my appointment up. I would see him in two days. I was so appreciative and was looking forward to speaking with him. A day before my appointment, I received a phone call from his physician assistant. He was cancelling my appointment. He said my dizziness was a neurological issue and that I should see a neurologist. There was nothing that he could do for me. I was so confused and devastated. Dr. Phillips acknowledged all my issues previously. Now he wanted nothing to do with me because I experienced what he believed to be an unrelated symptom. I have already seen a neurologist, who has ruled out MS. She took scans of my brain, which were forwarded to Dr. Phillips. The scans of my brain showed no issues. Now I have to start this whole process over with a new doctor. Meanwhile, I am in the greatest pain of my life and am not able to do everyday tasks. The fact that Dr. Phillips would not see a patient of his in a great time of need and is willing to kick them to the curb so easily without asking any follow up questions is a major red flag. Do not book an appointment with this heartless doctor unless it is your last resort.

Dr. Phillips and staff at MIdwest Ortho had done surgery on my husband with great success. This is why I chose them for my back issues. After meeting with him, I felt very confident with what he had to say that I scheduled and had surgery. Couldn’t be more pleased with results! Very efficient and knowledgeable.
Dr. Phillips was pleasant and thorough. He listens and answers questions without rushing.

He is amazing I’ve had 3 spinal fusions. He has a great team of PA’s who get back to you in lighting speed. His team is outstanding, they operate like a symphony. Dr. Phillips is clearly a brilliant surgeon but has a great sense of humor, really understands what you are up against and is just a great guy. How can I say this? It’s a tough combination. I would recommend him and his team to anyone for the most difficult cases. I’ve been with them for 7 years and I can’t imagine not having that team in my ongoing issues. Joan
Surgeon Frank Phillips gave me a great and comprehensive second opinion for a pending neck surgery. He certainly seemed to be honest, forthcoming, and his skill level is difficult to match. Given his long and successful history with disc replacements I will certainly be utilizing his skills in order to gain the best outcome possible for my specific injury. I will be sure to review the outcome as well once I am fully recovered… So far I would suggest Surgeon Frank Phillips for anyone considering Cervical (Neck) disc replacement. As I do not believe there are many Surgeons that have more experience or better outcomes.
He clearly explained all the problems with my back and the procedure he would use to correct them.
Dr. Phillips gave me my life back. He was my third surgeon in 3 years. Should have started here but lived out on the east coast and was a patient at HSS. He's nice, courteous, timely, concerned and practical. Everything about the experience was excellent including my outcome!!
2 years ago Dr Phillips fused my lumbar and literally gave me my life back after 4 specialists turned me away. More recently I broke my C2 in an accident. While some doctors warned me I would lose all sides to side motion Dr Phillips was able to perform the procedure and still give me a reasonable amount of motion. He is nothing short of amazing.
Excellent surgeon. Best I have ever had. Most importantly, he listens to and is patient with his patients. Also kudos to his staff including Christine, Toni and Marian.
Dr Phillips , his nurse, and all the staff were awesome. Very Thorough looked over all my films and took the time to explain them to me and while there is nothing surgically to help me at this time Dr Phillips pointed me in the direction some great pain management physicians.
I was in severe pain with sciatica. Surgery was recommended and I was referred to Dr. Phillips. He stated I needed a spinal fusion and a laminectomy. He explained the pros and cons. He and his team were wonderful. The surgery was a huge success and i am no longer in any pain. Dr. Phillips stopped by to see me every day that I was in the hospital. The follow-up visits also went well.
Dr.Phillips is amazing! I’ve been suffering with back & leg pain after back surgery from another physician & Dr. Phillips was able to explain to me why I’ve been in terrible pain for 8 months after my surgery. He is a WONDERFUL DR!!!!!!!
In December 2019, I was practically crippled at times due to a disc between L5-S1 that was gone. In January 2020, Dr. Phillips operated on me via the ALIF technique. I was back on the golf course and in the gym by August as if I was never severely injured. I could not provide a higher endorsement of Dr. Phillips and the team at Rush. I am off medicine, the heating pad, and wasting days in pain. Life changer!
Dr. Phillips and staff always try to get to the root of the problem, are professional, and very compassionate.
Dr. Frank Phillips and his Team are amazingly professional and caring!!! Don't hesitate to put your orthopedic healthcare needs in Dr Frank Phillips skilled surgeon hands, you will be 100% safe with him!!!
I had the most amazing experience with Dr. Phillips at Rush Ortho. I came here for a second opinion because I was not happy with the level of care I received at a different place. I had a completely different experience here. Dr. Phillips answered every single one of my questions and explained everything to me so that I was 100% educated and comfortable with my future procedure. I would highly recommend to any one, if you want great care and questions answered and not to feel like you are just another body, go see Dr. Phillips.
Dr. Phillips recommended a special PT therapy for my spine instead of surgery. I felt hopeful that my back pain, which I had been experiencing for three months, would resolve. He also encouraged me to call back if it did not. Although I had a long wait, I had a good experience.
Waited over 2 hrs for my appointment and he didn’t even examine me. Told me he was a spinal surgeon and said maybe a neuro surgeon could be helpful. Horrible office experience
He is a miracle worker. I herniated my disc in my neck in 2012. I lived in pain for 3 years before considering surgery. He did my spinal surgery and I have been pain free, now have quality of life and I can honestly say he changed my life. I would give him 10 stars if I could.
Doc was very clear and came up with what appears to be a very reasonable treatment plan. Conservative treatment ment first and if that doesnt work ho in and fix it with surgery. Make you feel confident of treatment working. Also very empathetic towards being in pain and works to allocate it.
He is an outstanding surgeon. Surgery was successful. He was very professional, courteous and informative. First rate staff.
Dr. Phillips and his whole team is outstanding! I delt with extreme pain in my back radiating all the way down my left leg for over a year. I was immediately pain free after operation. When meeting with doctor he held nothing back and explained everything in detail with no pushing into an operation and took his time explaining. On the day of operation Dr. Phillips and his whole team were absolutely outstanding! THANK YOU!
Dr Phillips is an incredible surgeon. He did my lower back fusion which immediately made walking comfortable for me. He also did cervical fusion which eliminated the pinched nerve allowing me full use of my left hand. He takes his time to explain conditions & options. His staff (Toni, Christine, Marion) are so very nice. They are helpful, caring & kind. I have recommended Dr. Phillips to my friends! Great people! Trustworthy & professional.
Absolutely fabulous! Would recommend to anyone
Seemed nice but hard to judge off of a 5 minute interaction. I was in the waiting room for 2 hours past my scheduled time and then to have access to the Dr for such a short time makes me think twice about using this office again in the future.
Dr Phillips was 90 minutes late and entered the exam room without explanation, without apology, but instead displaying tremendous arrogance. At one point I was attempting to describe my symptoms and he was very clearly annoyed that I was speaking and taking up his time. He confirmed that suspicion when I wrapped up my 1-2 minute recap by brushing it off as immaterial.
I had an appt to see Dr.Phillips last week in the Munster office. I did not get to see him. Rather, I was seen by a physician assistant. I had another appt the following week in Chicago office and was told I would see the doctor after an MRI. After waiting 75 minutes past the appt time, I was again seen by the physician assistant. The physician assistant seemed to be conveying the information for the doctor. She did a fine job, but I made appointments to see Dr.Phillips. Dr.Phillips did a good job with my spinal fusion years ago and I think he is top-notch. I specifically sought him. If patients are not going to see the specialist (which I will be billed for), then this should be disclosed during the scheduling process.
Dr.phillips took the time to explain the problem with my back which I greatly appreciated
Dr. Phillips is an OUTSTANDING surgeon, he is very professional, very personable and VERY CARING!
My Visit was welcoming, warm and reassuring. Everyone was professional and very imformed, making sure I understood everything about my surgery. If I ever have another spine issue I will definitely go back to see Dr. Phillips.
Prompt. Thorough. He listened to my concerns and responded in a way I understood. I trust his judgement.
Very thorough
I think Dr. Phillip's is an Outstanding doctor and I am extremely happy he operated on me.
I was in immense back pain when I saw Dr. Phillips. He gave me my options and noted the only way to get rid of back pain was spinal fusion. That option was not what I expected but I'm glad I did it. When the team performed the surgery they found additional issues and were able to adjust and complete successfully. His whole team put me at ease and reassured me along the way. I am so happy i chose this Dr and Midwest Ortho at Rush. The experience was life changing and I have my life back pain free. My biggest issue is wanting it to heal faster so I can back to some of my old hobbies. Thank you!!!!
Great doctor
Dr. Phillips really listened to my concerns and suggested a most reasonable plan of action regarding my ailment.
Post surgery follow up recently and everything is progressing great - most symptoms I have experienced in the last few years are greatly improved.
Dr. Phillips did my back surgery 12 years ago complete success! I need to have another, a result of the disk above my previous surgery area is deteriorating. Dr. Phillips is the only back surgeon I trust
After having a surgery two years ago that didn’t solve my problem. I had been to many doctors and no one was able to help me. Dr. Phillips was able to come up with a solution.
I had a discectomy at C5-C6. Dr. Phillips was extremely knowledgeable. He answered all of my questions and was very reassuring. The procedure went smooth and all follow-up appointments went well. All of his staff has been amazing at answering questions and getting back to me in a timely manner. I cannot day enough good things about Dr. Phillips and his staff.
Outstanding results and care. I am former Olympic level athlete with multiple spine injuries. Dr. Phillips has magic in his fingers!
Dr. Phillips is excellent. I can’t say enough good things. I am a physician myself and I would enthusiastically send any friend, family member or patient to him.
Great to work with and wonderful staff.
He's a great doctor who fixed my back issue that another surgeon had messed up.
Dr. Phillips has performed two back surgeries for me in the last eight years. He is very professional great bedside manners. I would recommend him for any orthopedic issues. Great doctor and staff.
I had another doctor that didn’t fix this issue. Dr. Phillips took care of me the second round and made sure to get me in quickly. I was in a lot of pain. The surgery went great and I’m doing so much better. He was very thorough and good to talk to. His staff was all very friendly and super helpful.
Excellent results. Had ALIF and the results were amazing. Living a pain free life after 10+ years of dealing with it everyday.
Doctor Phillips is tops in his field! Very thorough, patient and answered all my questions! He takes a conservative approach and didn’t press for a surgery as the first course of treatment. He earned my trust
Dr. Phillips performed an incredible spinal fusion to my back in 2012. I have seen him a few times since the surgery. He is as far as I'm concerned the only specialist I would ever trust my back to! He is beyond well informed, an expertise in his field, extremely experienced and knows exactly what is needed. If you want the best of the best that's who you see!!
Dr. Phillips is top notch. He doesn’t rush through an office visit. I’m very impressed that he was very conservative in his approach to my back surgery.
The Best!
Dr Phillips consultation with me was excellent , thorough and very helpful. He not only listened but explained his review and answered all my questions . I plan on staying with him for my surgery and post surgery . He has an outstanding reputation and I could see why that is the case.
new patient didn’t see dr after 2 hour wait in room. walked in no smile no hello no handshake very rude rushed to get me to do surgery for no reason would not recommend to anyone
Answers questions and concerns honestly
I had spinal fusion surgery 1 year ago to relieve numbness/tingling in legs/feet that became progressively worse in past 3 years. Dr. Phillips was confident I would positively benefit from this procedure. I spent only 1 night in hospital, was walking in 1 week and and was able to participate in PT in 2 plus months. Golfing/biking in 5-6 months. No more hunching over while walking, looking for a chair or something to lean on; very pleased with result. Great staff/ Rush is great hospital.
Dr. Phillips and all his staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They answered all my questions and explained my future procedure in a way that was easy to understand.
He was very good n answer my concerns
