Excellent surgeon. However, a lot of spinal conditions are going to result in chronic pain, no matter what. Consider an implanted device that blocks pain signals. You'll need less medication. But be sure your dental issues are fixed, as the germs can cause your implanted device to get infected.

Let me start by saying how thankful I am for Dr. Fichtel. He is kind, professional, knowledgeable and took the time to listen to me regarding my neck pain. He thoroughly explained what was going on and covered my options, in detail, regarding surgical intervention vs. pain management. First I want to say I think Dr. Fichtel is very talented. I love him and have had three surgeries with him. There is the problem. I am a repeat customer. Heidi on his staff is terrible. She thinks because you have had one surgery you can’t possibly need anything else. If something else goes wrong, you cannot get help from this office in a timely manner. It takes months. She always says “ you don’t understand he’s busy”. Yeah well I am in pain and can’t move. Quit telling me I shouldn’t be calling my neurosurgeon and to go to a med clinic they can’t help. I finally found another doctor who would take me before my year was up after my lumbar fusion. I now have a severe compression in my neck, a herniated L3 and T9/10. Heidi again says they are too busy. SO if you have a simple problem and don’t need any paperwork for insurance sure go here. If you are like me and will have continual spine problems (which I didn’t know was going to happen), DO NOT GO HERE. Unless his staff changes. I have had more than one surgery by Dr. Fichtel. He is more than competent, is kind, and explains in detail. He answers questions and suggests the least invasive approaches. He leaves decisions to patients, giving alternatives and likelihood of success for each. His office is responsive and helpful. Wait time is as close to zero as it can be. He understands his patients, their concerns, and respects their time as well.

Dr Fichtel was a God send! After 5 yrs of chronic constant back and sciatic pain along with multiple doctors/specialist/therapists/surgeries/meds that left me either worse or the same….I felt very discouraged and lost. Dr Fichtel took time to hear my story and review all my imaging since 2016. We came up with a plan and I had varilift surgery June 23, 2021. I didn’t want all the rods and screws and this option was my answered prayer. His bedside manner at the hospital and aftercare since is amazing! It takes a good year to heal and though I still have some pain at 5 mths I am already living life again and not making every decision based on how bad I feel! This genius of a surgeon changed my life with his skills. After a decade of back and leg pain his operation cured me.

Had surgery 2yrs ago. Lower back. I'm still in terrible pain like I never had surgery. Not what I expected.

Dr. Fichtel has done 2 surgeries on me in the last 6 months. Both were revisions of previous surgeries by other doctors. 1 was a multilevel anterior neck fusion which solved a lot of pain and weakness issues. The other was a Lumbar(L1) laminectomy/discectomy without fusion. It apparently was rather complicated as the doctor who worked on that joint previously said was too risky. He wanted to do a large 4 level fusion,as did several others who looked at it. Dr. Fichtel assured me he could get the job done safely with minimal risk by coming from a different angle no one else discussed. He was right and I'm very grateful to have him as my new doctor. I've had 7 spine surgeries with multiple doctors. If I have any others, they will be with Dr. Fichtel. He's a highly skilled surgeon and also very friendly and caring. I highly recommend him. The staff is also the best I've come across as well. Very kind and attentive. Thank you all very much!

Wife had abrupt symptoms in 2005 which required surgery quickly. I can’t say enough great things about Dr Fichtel, if you are in need of spinal surgery this is the person to go to. I’m an RN and have never been around a more compassionate, understanding, professional and just good person as Dr Fichtel. I recently saw Dr. Fichtel regarding treatment options. Not only was he professional but extremely detailed reviewing my images and well being. He spent time comparing images and truly diving into options for my healing. I can not say how much that was appreciated given the road ahead. Simply put, he was amazing!

From his polite staff, nurse Lillianna, and the time (30+ minutes) he took explaining what happened to my neck while reviewing my MRI, this experience was an A+. Highly recommend Dr. Fichtel for neck/spine surgery. My second opinion with Dr. Vasquez validated the recommended surgery.

Dr. Fichtel was highly recommended to me, and I am so glad I worked with him on my lumbar spine issue. I was told to seek pain management treatment, but sent the MRI to Dr. Fichtel and he saw something else entirely. He repaired multiple current and prior disc ruptures before some lower leg nerve damage was permanent. He put me on course to do effecrtive post-op rehabilitation, and I am getting better each day. A+ in my book.

Did not secure screws in my posterior neck fusion, and as a result the two screws have worked out to protrude on my neck. Checked with other Neurologist, and they are astonished.

Incredibly responsive and compassionate surgeon! Dr. Fichtel takes much time to evaluate and determine what is best for the patient. I have had multiple cervical, thoracic and lumbar surgeries from the most conservative to most complex to resolve loss of function and quality of life issues. All surgeries have provided complete and total restoration of function and quality of life in minimal time. The referral of my care to Dr. Fichtel was a blessing!
