About Farzad Massoudi
Reviews for Farzad Massoudi
I have been seeing Dr. Massoudi since 2012. His bed side matter is impeccable, his soft demeanor makes it so easy to trust his opinion. He explains everything with detail so it’s easy to understand. I highly recommend him just not for his amazing talent but as a stiller human being. Noelle
Dr. Massoudi is one of the best Surgeon. He’s competent, caring, warm and friendly. He’s kind, compassionate, confidence and he listen. I have had 3 fusion surgeries on my neck as well as my lumbar twice. I am grateful for his great service and kindness. I know I’m in great hands with Dr. Massoudi. His staff has been very nice, helpful and patience; especially Sharry Emad. I would recommend Dr. Massoudi to anyone in need of an excellent, kind and thoroughly competent Neurosurgeon! Thank you Dr. Massoudi for taking such a great care of me.
Dr. Farzad Massoudi has been my trusted surgeon for 10 years during which time I have had 4 surgeries due to injuries/accidents. Dr. Massoudi is a highly skilled and recognized neurosurgeon. He is kind, compassionate, and has great empathy. Dr. Massoudi listens intently and doesn’t rush me during office visits. While I was in the hospital I mentioned to Dr. Massoudi that this surgery was horrible, he agreed—-his agreeing with me may seem small, but to me, it was an acknowledgment of what I was going through. Another time I was in the hospital and he was doing his rounds. He actually took the time to lift my legs and put a pillow under my feet—-this was after back surgery because I couldn’t do it myself. These may seem like small gestures, but I was very touched by his kindness, compassion, and empathy. Thanks to Dr. Massoudi and his amazing skills as a surgeon, I most definitely have a better quality of life. Susan Haslam 2023
Professional staff and wonderful doctor
My experience with Dr. Massoudi is a 100% experience. Dr. Massoudi and his staff are the finest professionals available anywhere. I have unconditional trust in Dr. Massoudi, which has been earned. I'm grateful to have Dr. Massoudi as my surgeon. - Richard Hawthorne
Dr Massoudi has performed many surgeries on me, without him I would’ve been in a wheelchair years ago. He’s always been the most knowledgeable, professional, wonderful man and surgeon that I’ve ever met. His staff is very professional and helpful. Especially Cheri his surgery coordinator. She makes everything so easy!

Dr. Massoudi was exceptional! Great personality and to the point on diagnosis. Team was on point and very professional. Please respect doctors and staff time. They will not tolerate you being late to your appointment! Be early!!!!
I visited Dr. Massoudi for a second opinion on a surgery that I had six months ago with another doctor that was not successful at all. I found out the surgery was not necessary and didn't help my walking and back ache. I'll be back to see Dr. Massoudi after I have this device that was planted in my head removed.

I think Dr Massoudi and his team of experts did a wonderful job with my care everyone from the front office all the way to the surgery and recovery so far so good I am glad I had it done
Dr. Massoudi is an excellent Dr. I have only been to a few visits with him in his office. But he is always on time which is nice, and he is very nice, and attentive, and listens to my replys and any concerns, and offers any advice if asked.
After three visits with Dr. Mousadi I feel confident that he is very good as a surgeon but more importantly he makes it quite clear what your options are and gives you choices as well as avenues to help you. The decision is ours and he gives us the tools to make them. He is kind, patient and everything you would want in a surgeon. When ready he will be my surgeon. Dr. Massoudi is the best. He’s competent, caring and he inspires confidence. He’s compassionate and kind and he listens. He’s warm, friendly and personable. Operating heavy equipment for 42+ years resulted in a lot of damage to my spine from my cervical all the way down to my lumbar/sciatica levels I gotta tell you…Surgery on my spine? I had reservations. After quite a bit of research and a couple neighbors highly recommending him, I chose Dr. Massoudi as my neurologist and I’m glad I did. At first I sought second opinions. Having said that, when both of these renowned neurologists asked me who my doctor was and I told them they both told me that they would not second guess Dr. Massoudi and that he was the very best around. Hence: He’s initially hard to get in to see. He’s very busy and rightfully so. Once you’re his patient he goes beyond the call of duty! For Example: I just had a problematic MRI where he scheduled surgery for me in 6 days. Thanks Doc! When you read negative reviews about any doctors, always bear in mind, they are not God. Everything was reviewed with me. The staff and Dr. Massoudi were excellent. I felt comfortable asking anything about my surgery. They were very thorough and understanding on my anxiety and did not rush me but showed concern. I wish other doctors office were as good as they are.
The first people you see are front desk staff who are very friendly and efficient. They have everything ready to go (ie; papers filled out) when you are called back. The last person you see is Sherry, the doctor's coordinator. She make sure that all your follow up assignments (ie: physical therapy, x-rays needed) are ready to go. She also makes sure that your follow-up visits are scheduled right away. Now, about the doctor himself... I found that Dr. Massoudi is a great neurosurgeon. One operation, and my life is 300% better already. He's got a great bedside manner, too. He made sure to check on me both days I was in the hospital, looking happy and positive, good vibes all around.. His first follow-up visit, again, was nothing but good vibes. He had lots of "toy" spinal parts showing all the different ways you can be fixed. We did not have to wait long for him to join us in the room. He answered all my questions, explained everything that was done and still needs to be do it done, I highly recommend Dr. Massoudi if you ever need Neurosurgery. You are safe in his hands. Dr. Massoudi has been my neurosurgeon since 2015 and has been the most knowledgeable doctor in my entire adulthood living with hydrocephalus. He is by far, the most compassionate doctor you can come across.
The staff and especially Sharry are very helpful. Dr Massoudi is very caring, and takes time to explain full procedure and the intended results. I would recommend him highly as a very kind, and doesn’t push you as to the decision of whether or when you decid to have surgery. My surgery went well and I am healing well.
Dr. Massoudi is a wonderful, caring physician. Very knowledgeable. Makes you feel comfortable immediately. Takes time to make sure all your questions are answered. He's very Kind. His office staff is sweetly helpful, proficient, and made me feel very welcomed. High recommend :)
We have been seeing Dr. Massoudi for about 6 years. He is a great and excellent doctor, and a great person. Once he came in from his vacation to see my wife. He is very likeable, and very knowledgeable and thorough in his field. I cannot overstate my recommendation. I would highly recommend him

Dr. M identified my problem, did surgery L3 - T10, solve the problems, gave me steel bars, and has followed up for years. No pain prior to or subsequent to surgery. Good referral to Rehab and PT. Nice guy.

I have had three spinal surgeries performed by Dr. Massoudi. All three were very successful and enabled me to enjoy an active lifestyle again that I enjoy. I was very impressed with my first visit and consultation and am looking forward for my next meeting to discuss the upcoming surgery for my back

I cannot say enough good words about Dr. Massoudi. He is an excellent surgeon with an outstanding reputation. He literally gave me my life back. Dr. Massoudi did my lower lumbar surgery. I am thrilled with his care, and I feel that he is an excellent Dr. and surgeon. He was always very professional, and had an excellent "bedside manner." hello. I had severe pain and kyphosis and NHL cancer and permanently disabled Dr. Massoudi performed stabilization surgery at T10-T12 and L1 & L2 in 2012. After post surgery pain resolved, My severe pain was reduced so significantly that I was able to get back to my baseline and taking steps again with professional pain management. I am a partial para with some retention of leg movement and wiggly toes. He was always caring and before I was discharged to a physical rehab facility he stopped by to tell me that I was going to have the best year ever and the morning I arrived at rehab facility I saw a rainbow. Physical rehab as partial para is mentally tough and grueling and state of mind critical but I never gave up. I am 60. I recently took a spill out of my chair and no apparent issues with the hardware in my back. I now have moved from area now.
Who cares about the staff. Dr Farzad Massoudi almost KILLED me. I sued him and I lost because I signed the waiver of liability you're being forced to sign prior to surgery. During my back surgery in 2006, at Saddleback Memorial Hospital.... while drilling the holes in my lower back at L5/S1 to install screws for a fusion, Dr. Massoudi drilled a hole all the way through my bone and punctured my lower bowel and ureter w/out knowing and sewed me up while feces and urine filled up my stomach as I was bleeding out of my rectum w a swollen stomach. In extreme extreme pain. I was on a heavy dose of the pain medication delaudid every fifteen minutes for two weeks. I had to get emergency surgery that same night to repair my damaged intestines. On top of that, the surgeon who repaired my intestines did not know that my ureter was damaged. When they figured it out, they told me I might have the possibility of losing a kidney while repairing my ureter. I had to wear a nephrostomy bag coming out of my kidney for months to redirect my urine due to damaged ureter. Took me a year to recover when it should have taken a few months to recover from the initial back surgery. I knew something was wrong before the surgery because I was being rushed in at 7am in the morning. When I saw him he was drenching in sweat. Who knows why? But I felt he rushed the procedure and/or hadn't gotten enough rest the night before. I know as a human being he's not perfect, but as a Doctor with experience he could have been more cautious while performing the surgery. Luckily I'm still alive by the grace of God. Would NOT recommend him to my worst enemy.o Who cares about the staff. Dr Farzad Massoudi almost KILLED me. I have debated whether or not to review Dr. Massoudi but as I sit here in so much pain and I’m so much worse than I was before he operated on my back. My surgery was a year and a half ago. I was in the hospital for four months following the surgery. I had a compressed fracture in my thoracic spine. I also had asthma which had been well controlled for over twenty years. During the surgery Massoudi collapsed one of my lungs. I was then diagnosed with COPD and I have been on oxygen ever since. No one will say that the collapsed lung had anything to do with it, but it’s quite a coincidence. I was so sick after the surgery and was in ICU off and on in critical condition on a couple of occasions. After ICU I couldn’t do much of anything. I was in a wheelchair for many months, then had a walker for several more months. I had to learn how to walk again, how to dress myself, how to wash my hair and shower and how to get in and out of bed. I’m sure you can imagine what it was like to go to the bathroom. I was completely helpless and I wasn’t prior to the surgery. One of Massoudi’s colleagues told me after I got out of the hospital that he would never have performed that type of surgery on me. It was extremely invasive. I have about a 7-9 inch scar down my back. Six months after the surgery I saw Massoudi for the first time for a follow up. I asked him if he could explain why I was still in a wheelchair after six months. He was clearly annoyed and said I just wasn’t a well person. He never did answer my question. He did, however, put in a request to authorize another doctor to take over my care. What care? I’m walking now, but not very well. I’ve been just over 5’7” my entire adult life. I am now 5’1” with a curved spine and rounded shoulders so I can’t stand up straight, my balance is way off. I have titanium plates and screws in my back. I still haven’t driven a car! My independence is gone. I have absolutely no quality of life. It’s still hard to take a shower. This man ruined my life. I’m not going to get any better. My depression is off the chart. I’m sorry guys that this is so long, I guess I really needed to get that out. I just want to save another person from living my nightmare courtesy of Dr. Massoudi. Dr. Massoudi acted like he had no idea why my scans were still showing tumor. After getting third opinions by actual brain surgery professional, they were SHOCKED by Dr. Massoudi's poor work and the lies he told. These doctors found this Massoudi in actuality had only removed 15 PERCENT of my tumor. And because of his negligence, my Stage 3 diagnosis turned into Stage 4. STAY AWAY at ALL COSTS from this "doctor". being worked on by him is the greatest mistake and regret of my life.
Please take the time to READ this review b4 going into the abyss. Some people have good experience with Dr Massoudi and some just horrible. I think that depends on which side of the bed he woke up on and how focused he may have been on your surgery. I can say for a fact that my mother, who had TWO lower back surgeries with Dr Massoudi, did not fair so well. Her first surgery failed as Dr Massoudi himself admitted that the hardware broke and caused her to have a second surgery. Unfortunately my mom put too much trust in him and decided to stay with Dr Massoudi for her second surgery, against my recommendation. Her second surgery was even worst than her first. She never even recovered from her surgery and began losing movement and feeling in her left leg as a result of nerve being pinched as a result of his second surgery (to be explained later). To make matters worst, Dr Massoudi's displayed complete ignorance in trying to help my mother. He never returned her calls. He ordered additional X-rays and scans and took a few weeks to return my call just to say "everything looks great with your surgery" come back in 6 months. "Come back in 6 months" is his protocol when he messes up and doesn't know how to deal with it. Leaving my mom in pain and loss of her left leg without any care. He did recommend she see a Pelvic doctor. lol which based on the scans showed ZERO relevancy. So not really a caring doctor is he? So he moved on. and so did we. At my advice, we got a second opinion from a GREAT PROFESSIONAL TEAM of doctors at UCI. They, unlike Dr Massoudi, take their oath seriously. We showed them the same Scan and Xrays, and they saw something different than Dr Massoudi. a pinched nerve around where Massoudi conducted the surgery. In short, She ended up needing an EMERGENCY surgery and was admitted to the hospital immediately. Because the doctors were concerned about her losing her ability to walk as a result of damaged nerves. I can say that she feels much better today and is off PAIN MEDICATION. Dr Massoudi is a reckless doctor with zero compassion and care for his patients. If you're lucky and it works out for you then great. congratulations on your lottery. If you're in the group with my mother (TWO surgeries) and based on reading some reviews in here you can see other grievances with the Dr, then get help elsewhere immediately. I typically don't write a lot of negative reviews but I felt compelled to share our experience so you can make your own determination on what's best for you.
Had 3 surgeries with Dr. Massoudi. Nerve tumor removal near spinal cord, L4/L5 disk fusion and laminectomy, and L4/L5 medical device removal. The fusion medical device is only needed temporarily until bone fusion. Metal medical devices can eventually cause bone loss and blood poisoning, so it's safer to remove them, if not needed. Every surgery was flawless. I highly recommend this doctor. He also did two surgeries on my husband. He did not recommend surgery for my mother due to her health.
He is the worst doctor that I have ever seen in my life. he doesn't care about patients and just care money.
My father came here for a second opinion, as he suffers from severe & debilitating back pain. Dr. Massoudi didn't have time to see him, but suggested to review my father's x-rays and radiological exam that were taken elsewhere. That was July 5th. The week of August 20th I came back to pick up his records. Not only did Dr. Massoudi not have time to schedule an appointment, he didn't even have time to review the records, SIXTY DAYS LATER. That's 20 pages of medical documentation and a CD of x-rays. That we left in his care at his office's suggestion. If that wasn't bad enough, the receptionist was super rude when I went to pick up his documentation. I guess I should be glad they didn't just lose it outright. I can't speak to Massoudi medical ability since we never actually got to that point. But I can tell you his office was rude and snooty, and he's GREAT at making you wait a really long time - we gave up after 2 months. Who knows how long he would have had us wait?? Looking at the other reviews, I can see he's left a lot of other people waiting too. If you need urgent medical care, it looks like pretty much anyone else is a better bet than Dr Massoudi's office. Also checked out Yelp to see what his reviews were like there. Maybe it's better he didn't see us at all. Yikes! Dr. Farzad, did a cleanup and laminectomy on my entire back after I had spinal cord damage and my left leg had gone paralyzed and I required emergency surgery. He was honest and said he might not get me to walk again but he would try to stop the pain. And he delivered...my surgery was in June 2014 and I followed up with 6 months of PT sessions 3 times a week. And I walk using a Walker or cane for long distances and have not used pain medication since I left the hospital. He is extremely talented and the staff was courteous, friendly and professional every time I was there. I highly recommend Dr. Farzad. Dr. Massoudi operated on my back 15 years ago and was a success and again I needed Fusion on my back in a different spot which I went back to Dr. Massoudi again and he pulled off another miracle. My wife also had back surgery from another Dr. and she still had pain. She went to Dr. Massoudi and he corrected what the other Dr. did wrong. I have recommended at least a dozen people to this Dr. too. You cant go wrong with Dr. Massoudi! Dr. Massoud he performed a spinal decompression on my C2 through seven I was paralyzed I now have regained movement in my arms and one leg but the surgery was inferior the doctor had terrible bedside manner after second opinion reviews they said the work was very sloppy definitely would not recommend this doctor for any critical procedure
Since my husband died during the surgery performed by Dr. Farzad Massoudi, I don't recommend any one use him. My husband died due to a severed artery. He was revived, but the next day we had to turn off the machines.

I DO NOT Recommend him at all. His office cancel our first appointment last minute when we were close to his office. the next appointment when we got to the office they told us they postponed our appointment and when I asked why you didn't tell me the staff told me that she left a message for us the day before which I never received any message and when I tried to show her my cell she walked away , also she didn't even say sorry or apologize for their mistake and they were very rude. Dr Massoudi may be a competent surgeon BUT in our case he continued beyond his abilities and did harm resulting in my brother's paraplegia. My brother's tumor should have never been touched! Doing so at the very least injured the spine and may have caused the normally static or slow growth tumor to spread. Every doctor seen after Massoudi told our family NOTHING SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE, especially on an exploratory surgery!!! BE WARNED! Very nice guy but our experience was not great. My mom has a brain tumor and she is having a lot of symptoms from it and he pushed her surgery out months because of vacation etc. Then he pushed it out twice at the last minute and on the day of the surgery she was prepped and ready and he decided to not do the surgery because frankly he was in way over his head. I don’t recommend Dr Massoudi for anything skill based. Very nice guy but our experience was not great. After learning that i had a brain tumor I decided to visit a few specialist regarding my surgery and tried to get as much information as possible. Most of the doctors had absolutely no manners whatsoever, I felt no personal connection with them and felt like I was another paycheck. When I visited Dr. Masoudi I and my wife both felt comfortable and relaxed, he explained about my tumor and told me how he would take care of me. At no time did he allow me to get scared or worried. The surgery went perfect with 100 percent removal of the tumor, and he made sure that I had the best private room at Saddleback Memorial Hospital (The hospital was also a 5 Star experience for me). He constantly came and checked on me and made sure I was taken care of. I had absolutely no pain during or after the surgery. He uses a robot to get into your brain so there are no scars and I only had to stay in the hospital for 3 days. After the surgery I have seen Dr. Masoudi twice more for post check up and everything has been great. I would recommend him to anyone who is looking for an experienced and caring doctor. There are lots of good doctors in the Orange County area but unfortunately there are not many with his caring personality.
