I had several procedures by Dr Melvin and I would recommend him to anyone who has any back pain problems!

I've been seeing Dr. Melvin for over 10 years now and I would consider myself a loyal Patient. Dr. Melvin is a excellent doctor, listen to my concerns, compassion, and provides conservatives treatment, however, today was a different story and quit disappointing. My travel time is over 25 miles with the minimum of a 45 minute drive, gas prices $4.60 a gallon, but who cares, right! I could admit, I did not calculate my timing well today with Orange Ave. lunch hour. I called the office at 12pm, to advise I would be 5 minutes late but the office was closed for lunch which is confusing if you are still seeing Patients. So I arrive 6 minutes late and my appointment was cxl due to my tardiness and the New Patient intake form was not completed. Basically, no new information, same pain symptoms and insurance information was provided over the phone. I was speechless, and the gentleman in the front desk was rude about it too. I was in silence as I processed this information and my hectic travel through traffic. I then tell him, that I could not believe my appt was being cxl for being 6 minutes late, I come so far, see my address and lets not mention gas is high right now. He said, "well other ppl travel long distances too". Ugh? Rude and no type of apologies! In complete disbelief that this situation happened today and reconsidering my loyalty. Awesome Doctor!!! Been rocking with Dr. Melvin since the late 90's. He is an around great caring person. His professionalism and knowledge is given in the most simplified way that you'll not only understand but can use to make the best decision for your course of treatment. He wants you to be healthy, happy and pain free as much as possible!!! I highly recommend Dr. Melvin to everyone looking to manage pain. So many options that does not include opioid for relief. Dr. Melvin and his office staff are simply the best. I had to consult him regarding pain from long term injuries caused by a car accident and he was knowledgeable and personable. He talked to me directly about what options I had to get relief from the issues I was having and when it required surgery he referred me to the best surgeons so I could get evaluations and second opinions. I have had back and neck issues for most of my adult life. I moved here in 2015 and FINALLY found Dr. Melvin. Not only does he clearly discuss your conditions, and give you options, but he cares! To say that Dr. Melvin is the best doctor, is no exaggeration. Dr. Melvin is not only the best doctor due to his character defining principles as a doctor, but also for his upstanding compassion as a person. The only thing I regret about finding this practice, is the fact that it took me so long to find it. I spent over a year getting poked and prodded and pushed around, to no avail. It was not until I was finally referred to Doctor Melvin, that I could start taking the steps to feeling better, and I saw the light at the end of the pain-and-misery tunnel. It took over a year, until I had the privilege of getting to see a real doctor. Horrible Staff- Please....Stay Far away from this place....Nighmare- Please read!! As a new patient, who was scheduled out, to see Dr. Melvin on June 16, 2020, at 3:30 PM, I discovered that at 11:26 AM, on 6-16-2020, that I missed a call from their office...Ok...fair enough so far......However, the real "fun" began, when I called back at 2:00 PM and spoke with Stacey, most rude receptionist, who copped a huge attitude, when I told her that the message received at 11:26 AM, from David, set a bad precedent, as he stated that if he does not hear from me right away that he is going to have to cancel my appointment set for today. Stacey then told me that they called me again and again on my cell and that I was supposed to have called them back yesterday, as they have to do a "full profile work-up", prior to me coming into their offices....what nonsense, and especially not to have known this when I initially set up my appointment....very very reactive, indeed.

Dr. Melvin is simply one of the best doctors I've ever had. He is precise in his diagnosis and treatments. Surprisingly, he's one of the only back/pain specialists I've ever had who prods your body for the source of pain -- other docs simply look at medical reports and MRIs. His style is casual, yet professional. He's always on time and his office staff are very efficient and professional If you have pain, I can't recommend him enough!!!

I went for 10 years with no one helping me end my back pain except to try and cover it up with pain medication. Dr Melvin has ended my back pain and I dont have to spend money on medications. I am so happy. Also his office staff is the best.

If I could provide a rating of MINUS 10 for Dr. Melvin, especially his staff, I would. The doctor upon my initial visit was fine and he hastily scheduled me for a Medial Branch Block Lumbar diagnostic procedure to see if I was a candidate for a radiofrequency neurotomy to help the chronic lower back pain that I’ve had for 10 years. At the visit, I was handed a stack of papers that I was to sign that described some extremely alarming risks. The worst of them being damage to the spinal cord resulting in paralysis, heart attack, stroke and death among many others. After reading this I contacted the office and asked for statistical data regarding the effectiveness and risks in order to obtain reassurance. The staff member on the phone was agitated by my questions and said rudely that they don’t have any data like that. It is my understanding that it is common practice for a doctor to have data pertaining to his procedures. I was directed to an office manager named Stacy who said “I don’t have any of your little graphs or charts”. I asked both ladies to please ask the doctor for me. Their reaction was anything but reassuring because l was given the opposite response that’d have expected of a professional practice. This response led me to believe that they don’t advocate for the doctor or the procedure. She claimed I was arguing with her and she went as far as to threaten to cancel my appointment because I asked these sorts of questions. She felt the need to add at that moment that my insurance was not going to cover it anyways. My insurance told me the opposite. I live 60 miles away and they said I will have to come to the office if I want answers. I agreed to come in to see the doctor hoping this was just a misunderstanding and that he would set me at ease in order to proceed with the procedure. The combative office manager hovered over me while I sat in front of the doctor. To my dismay he had an entirely different demeanor from when I first met him. He didn’t greet me or make eye contact. He didn’t ask me about my concerns which is what they brought me back for. Instead he talked into his laptop and said he would not do the procedure, I was no longer a candidate, and my insurance won’t cover it either. I told him that I have confirmation that my insurance authorized the procedure and would cover it. He raised his voice and said “They are liars”. I couldn’t get a word in, he proceeded to use a harsh tone and when I finally had a window to ask my questions, he walked out as I was in mid-sentence and said he had other patients to see. I had clearly been misled because I was scheduled for that Monday. There was no basis for this response, I was calm and collected, and remained polite. As I tried to gather clarification I was repeatedly met with contradictory information and harsh language by both the doctor and office manager, saying things like “I just told you that, you aren’t listening!”. I was put in a room with Stacy afterwards to go over my costs which were in the $1000’s whereas my insurance said all I’d owe was a co-pay and the procedure would be applied to my deductible. I again asked for clarification and she said she would no longer answer my questions, she yelled may times that “the doctor already told you this!”, she contradicted herself within the same sentence and contradicted what the doctor had said. In her increasingly agitated state she said “You have wasted the staff and doctor’s time”. She made it clear to me that I was no longer welcome there and that they were not interested in helping me get better. I left in tears and I can honestly say that I have NEVER been treated so poorly by any other staff or doctor. No one should be treated like that under any circumstances. I am sharing this to forewarn others about this place. People as aggressive, combative and unwilling to provide complete assurance and clarity regarding such a serious procedure should in no way go anywhere near someone’s spine. If I could give 0 stars or negative stars I would. DR figured out my husband's problem and set an an appt for a Friday 2 months away. My husband lives 4 hours away. My husband showed up and they said they don't do test on Fridays anymore. My husband took off work from his new job to go. The doctor wouldn't see him and they charged him for an office visit. He called and called and the office manager said they don't make mistakes. He kept calling for days and days to speak with the doctor and he never returned his calls. So he got charged for a visit for a test where he didn't see the doctor or get the test to help with his pain. Months later, DR still won't return calls and we had to pay for that office visit. I have been a patient of Dr. Melvin for several years. I have chronic pain from 2 major back surgeries and he has done epidurals for me for years and I always receive relief. I would highly recommend him.

Dr Melvin was very thorough with his examination of my painful spinal issues and had numerous options for pain management that previous Drs did not offer. It is rare to find a Dr that spends the time to get to know you and your condition rather than rushing to expensive procedures or even surgery. I am optimistic that I will be no longer dependent on medication and pain free.

I went to see Dr. Melvin after a poor experience from a pain management center. Dr. Melvin worked me into the schedule immediately. His staff were welcoming & kind. Dr. Melvin took notes on my medical history, asked about my current doctors, and was eager to set up a plan of action to relieve me from my pain. Our family is very thankful that we found Dr. Melvin. Since July, my husband has been dealing with chronic pain and serious mobility issues due to a fall. Dr. Melvin is highly competent, thorough and empathetic. He has used a broad range of treatments to find pain relief. He is an expert in comprehensive pain management. He is easy to talk to, seeks to understand and doesn't over promise but instead offers realistic expectations.

I have been retired for a number of years and when I developed symptoms of sciatica, I called my internist asking who he might recommend. He gave me Dr. Melvin's name. His office staff was the rudest that I have ever encountered. So rude that I changed doctors. I saw one other reference noting the same. By far the best decision of my life was going to see Dr. Eugene Melvin and his staff. I am paralyzed from the T-4 section down. Unfortunately the only sensation I had throughout my body was a strong stabbing and burning pain that made it impossible to have any kind of a normal life. The wheelchair was not the problem, it was the pain. My doctor gave me a referral to a pain management doctor and I immediately assumed pill mill. Although I have been dealing with this pain for almost 2 years, I had not been taking any narcotic pain killers. Dr. Melvin suggested an electronic neurostimulator implant. Once I was given the implant I almost wanted to cry. For the first time in two years I was pain free. I had literally forgotten what it was like to not feel pain. Dr.Melvin is the only pain medicine physician who ever examined me.He gave me a diagnosis then and referred me to an excellent surgeon.In a post surgery visit ,he again diagnosed my condition and outlined a treatment plan to deal with my pain.He is calm ,efficient and knowledgeable.I can not recommend him highly enough.

My husband and I saw Dr. Melvin for the first time yesterday. We had a terrific experience. He was very kind, generous with his time and knowledgable! This is the doctor we have been looking for. And Stacey who works at the front desk, I cannot say enough about her! She was so compassionate and actually listened to me. I had no complaints what so ever, I have been seeing Dr. Melvin for my back for years. It was until I got injured on my job on my left knee. Since I got into the room, I ask the nurse if he takes workers comm, every body answer the same, "yes" Dr. Melvin gave me an excused for my job. He told me that he needed to talk to my adjuster, I had to pay $250 for my visit and $40 for my insurance deductible. Dr got greedy, he never reimburse my money, be careful with $$$$$$$$, never give money.........

Very Knowledgeable and Professional

First and foremost one must at all times to have someone in the room with you at all doctors appointments . When you complain about something over and over again and you have done everything to find a solution they send you to another doctor who doesn't want to help you especially if it's work comp. so your stuck with something that' your not sure what's wrong and the doctors don't think outside the box. They know when they have overlooked something they put the blame and shame on the patient

Non-caring front office staff - no compassion whatsoever. Doctor not willing to even have a consultation after referral from another doctor. The front office is just communicating how the doctor operates.

I have been seeing Dr. Eugene Melvin now for the past 2 years. I absolutely love the staff, they are very friendly and accommodating and Dr. Eugene Melvin is the best! He is very thorough, extremely helpful in offering alternative solutions to medicine and/or surgery if possible. He provides you all options available and does not pressure you into making rash decisions. He ensures that you have a complete understanding of the procedures to be performed and it's impact. He was even able to diagnose issues that my back doctor overlooked and assisted in getting the appropriate treatments to assist me in becoming pain free. Although, I am still a work in progress, Dr. Melvin does not let you lose hope, he is passionate about finding a resolution the suits his patient. I have been going to Doctor Melvin for a few years now. I am a person with chronic back problems including arthritis, and disc problems. His Diagnosis has always been spot on, the procedures he has performed have been a life saver for me. It has allowed me to walk comfortably, and have the best quality of life possible.
