My teenaged daughter has been going several years. At first, I was so relieved we found help. She was very nice and attentive when I met with her the first time. As time went in, she’d wait half hour-hour to see her. The Dr would never remember a thing about her age, school, symptoms etc. - even though she had everything on computer. My daughter felt like a number and paycheck to the Dr. The front desk does not bill you by mail - I had asked several times so I could have receipts and keep track. They’d cancel appts without telling me because bill wasn’t up to date - but I’d never have any idea when I was being billed. I don’t like giving CC info over phone. During the high point of Covid, she’d have telehealth calls and the Dr would forget to call half the time. Find yourself a better provider. I feel like she’s phoning it in (when she remembers). ;(

Do not listen to all of this negative feedback. I have been a patient of hers for the last 5 years. I gave a lot of negative feedback when everything went down the way it did. Yes, she was fined, yes she got caught, but to me she's paid dearly for it and I think it's time everyone moved on. This all happened 2 years ago now. I've been to 2 other clinics since she shut down and all they care about is money. I have yet to see an actual dr where I'm going now. I've been there 2 years now and the grass definitley isn't greener on the other side. I'm miserable there and it's a 40 min drive for me. I'm hoping she'll be able to provide my suboxen needs in the near future. I've been waiting a long time to go back. Hopefully sooner rather than later. She saved my life. I'll always be endebted to her for that. Do not listen to all of this negative feedback. I have been a patient of hers for the last 5 years. This woman could not care less about your addiction or recovery. She cares about the money she can make off of your disease and that’s it. In my experience, to get well, we need a provider who invests him or herself in our wellbeing/recovery. You are more likely to experience wellness under the care of someone willing to emotionally get into the trenches with you. This person becomes aware of your experience only insofar as she can use it to profit. You will find much better recovery ANYWHERE ELSE. 6/10/2014 - An Ellington psychiatrist who has already been fined $60,000 by state and federal officials for mishandling a drug called Suboxone was reprimanded Tuesday for the same violations by the state Medical Examining Board. State and U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration records show that Dr. Erum Shahab had violated regulations in 2012 relating to the storage, documentation and dispensing of the drug, which is prescribed to heroin and prescription pill addicts because it suppresses withdrawal symptoms and cravings. In October 2012, Shahab agreed to pay a $40,000 to the DEA, which said in a settlement agreement that she failed to properly document and maintain purchasing and dispensing records for Suboxone. The DEA also said she failed to conduct a biennial inventory of controlled substances and unlawfully possessed Suboxone outside of the scope of her license to dispense the drug. A separate agreement Shahab reached in December 2012 with the state Department of Consumer Protection shows that Connecticut fined her $20,000 and placed her registration to prescribe controlled substances on probation for two years. DEA and the consumer protection department referred their case against Shahab to the state Department of Public Health in 2012. DPH Staff Attorney David Tilles said these were some of the largest fines he has seen imposed by DEA and consumer protection in the more than 15 years he has been with the state agency. He said the manufacturer of Suboxone used to provide the drug directly to doctors such as Shahab, and investigators found that she did not adequately control her inventory of the drug. “It was really sloppy,’’ he told the board. 6/10/2014 - An Ellington psychiatrist who has already been fined $60,000 by state and federal officials for mishandling a drug called Suboxone was reprimanded Tuesday for the same violations by the state Medical Examining Board. … More

I am writing this as a former “friend” of Erum Shahab and a former employee. She is corrupt and she pretend to like you but then will talk innapropriatelg behind you. The good comments that are listed on here are most likely from her staffers because I know that when I was there I was asked to go online and write a positive review myself. In May of 2018 she paid out over $800,000 to the federal government for illegally billing Medicare multiple times for the same procedures and she was fined $60,000 by the DEA back in 2014 for illegally possessing suboxone in her practice. She lost her license to prescribe controls for a while because of that. This woman cares about the check in your pocket and not about you! I can say this as having worked there. If you can find ANYONE else, I am begging you to go with them. 90% of he staff has hearts of gold but I know the ones that took part in her illegal schemes and shame on them. This woman makes one $1,3 million per year and complains her Burberry scarf looks phony. She is phony and I thankfully left that practice before all of this went down. I’m a true believer in a Doctor having a moral code. She didn’t screw up once, not twice but 3 times. That right there proves a pattern of illegal , immoral amd unethical practices. Now, to get more money in office is she prescribes ONE sub atrip and makes you take it in front of her just so she can get you back in Then the next day so that she can Billiu again for the visit and she only prescribes want to weeks at a time and makes you do therapy in her office where she collects in 2 to 3 times a week. You think she’d learn but she never will. I can’t beliebe she isn’t Iom I am writing this as a former “friend” of Erum Shahab and a former employee. I had a lot of positive things to say about Dr Shahab up until my last year with her. I went there for help with a mood disorder and the meds she gave me helped but stopped working. I kept telling her about this and I always felt rushed as all she would do is up the dosage. I always got a ton of calls about my appointments being canceled always because she was "sick." and once I didn't see her for about two months because she had the flu than a family emergency. So I called to cancel twice and she dropped me from her practice. I only found this out when I called to get my meds refilled and the office told me this. They refused to give me any more medication refills to last me till I found another doctor. So that means withdrawals off of SSRI. I would not recommend anyone going there. I know they treat people there as well with addictions so I can't speak on how she is with that side of things. I feel like she just kept me on those anti depression and anxiety meds and kept upping the dosage to rush things along. She is nice in a fake obvious way. Also as much as she rushes the appointments along you are sitting in the waiting room way past your time you are actually scheduled there for. Erum Shahab paid a settlement to the federal government for fraudulent billing practices, that was amoung some of the highest settlements ever paid, around $800,000. Her CT medical license is still active and valid but again only after a large settlement was paid; around $60,000. This not her first time with sanctions on her medical license. She is dishonest and doesn't follow commonly accepted practices. Don't go here if your interested in bettering yourself. If you are thinking of doing TMS in that office, pick another office/doctor. There is a "mission statement" posted in the lobby, but it should be taken down or revised because it refers to "honesty, integrity, honor, respect" and she does not deliver. The staff is fine, but, the doctor is unreliable, and there is only so much they can do. I experienced many patients arriving in the office only to be told their appt. has been cancelled. I saw this 5-6 times. More to write, but no space.

May 14th 2018- United States Attorney John H. Durham and Connecticut Attorney General George Jepsen today announced that DR. ERUM SHAHAB and WAIRE, LLC, doing business as ELLINGTON BEHAVIORAL HEALTH (“EBH”), have entered into a civil settlement agreement with the federal and state governments in which they will pay $805,071 to resolve allegations that they violated the federal and state False Claims Acts. SHAHAB, a psychiatrist, is the owner of EBH, a psychiatric medical practice located in Ellington, Connecticut. As part of SHAHAB and EBH’s treatment of patients with substance use disorders, SHAHAB and EBH regularly conducted urine drug screening tests on urine samples collected from patients treated at the practice. Urine drug screening tests use a single sample of a patient’s urine to test for multiple classes of drugs. Although the test screens a patient’s urine for multiple classes of drugs, Medicare considers it a single test that should be billed only once per patient encounter. The government alleges that SHAHAB and EBH submitted claims to Medicare for multiple units of urine drug screening tests when they knew or should have known that only one unit of service could be billed per patient encounter. By coding their claims using multiple units instead of a single unit, SHAHAB and EBH received hundreds of thousands of dollars from the Medicare program that they were not entitled to receive. In addition, the government alleges that SHAHAB and EBH submitted claims to the Medicaid program for urine drug screening tests when the urine samples were either never actually tested at all or were tested weeks or months after the samples were collected from the Medicaid beneficiaries. To resolve the governments’ allegations under the federal and state False Claims Acts, SHAHAB and EBH have agreed to pay $805,071, which covers claims submitted to the Medicare program from January 1, 2011 to September 30, 2013, and claims submitted to the Medicaid program from January 1, 2014 to June 30, 2014. A complaint against SHAHAB and EBH was filed in the U.S. District Court in Connecticut under the qui tam, or whistleblower, provisions of the both the federal and state False Claims Acts. The relator (whistleblower), Dr. David Simon, a former employee at EBH, will receive a share of the proceeds of the settlement in the amount of $99,113. May 14th 2018- United States Attorney John H. I recently moved to Connecticut and was dreading having to find a new psychiatrist. So often there is very little listening or communication. I was blessed to have found Dr. Shahab. Dr. Erum Shahab runs a tight ship at Ellington Behavioral Health. This is, of course, a good thing for recovering addicts--a large population of her patient base--who require structure in their recovery. As is the case with many healthcare practices, any faults in the otherwise smooth, regimented operation is the result of those on the administrative side of things. If a patient requires special attention they should persistent and on top of it, without being unruly, and all needs should be met.

Terrible doctor, terrible practice. She likes her suboxone patients because sadly addicts have come to expect sub-par, condescending treatment, which I’ve seen from many mental health providers. But hey, it’s paying her bills, right? I’m not an addict and went there for a different reason - all this practice did was open my eyes more to the terrible treatment addicts receive - because she treats everyone with the same unprofessional disdain. She’s truly a disgrace to the medical community.

I would never recommend this practitioner. The office confirmed the appointment the night before and then cancelled within 3 hours of the appointment. By the time my daughter got the cancellation message she was in their parking lot so decided to go in to reschedule. Dr. Shahab was there but “Sick” the afternoon before Thanksgiving. Practices usually charge clientsfor cancellations if less than 24 hr. your notice. Where is the professionalism here!

How this doctor is still able to treat OR even be around patients is disgusting. Withholds medication for people who are trying to get their lives back with Suboxone. She has been fined by the state board and in in civil court. Charging extreme amounts of money for urine 2-3 times a week. The comments left here are clearly left by herself or staff. She does patient dumps by fabricating dirty urine results. She has hurt far more people than she has helped and it will only continue. STAY AWAY/

She has a sensitivity and sincerity with each of her patients, that is very rare in her field of expertise. Her program is firm and structured, which she demands as YOUR part in YOUR sobriety. After attending CT Behavioral Health as one of Dr. Shahab's patients I am truly flabbergasted by all the negative feedback she has received on various sites, She is one of the nicest, most down to earth doctors I have ever encountered in my life. Dr. Shahab has treated me with nothing but the upmost respect from the very minute that I walked into her office. She didn't judge me or approach me with any preconceived notions as most doctors who treat addicts likely do. Her staff is top notch and just as respectful as the doctor. They really go the extra mile and really want nothing more than to see you progress and succeed. I am so glad that I did not 'judge a book by it's cover" and pass up treatment at this facility based on the horrible things I've read on these doctor review websites. All I can say is that if you're a potential patient considering choosing Connecticut Behavioral Health, do not form an opinion based on the reviews you may have read on doctor review sites because they're not even remotely close to the truth. I challenge you to think for yourself and give Dr. Shahab a honest try. What's the worst that can happen? Just be completely honest with her (she really respects honesty, plus she's been in the business long enough to spot BS from a mile away) and I can guarantee that amazing woman will do everything in her power to help you. I am living proof, and I'm proud to not only call Dr. Shahab my doctor, but also to consider her a friend who genuinely cares about my future. I know this may sound corny, but in my heart I believe this doctor has saved my life from reaching the point of no return.
