About Eric M Haas
Reviews for Eric M Haas
Dr. Haas did a colon resection that was successful and, wonderfully, really not painful. While I may be lacking a medical degree, I know that functional with no pain is worth a good rating in my book.
Dr. Haas is very empathetic. He understands the needs and anxieties of his patients. He was extremely thorough in reviewing my case. He has state of the art understanding of his field. His Nurse Practitioner and office staff are excellent in facilitating appointments and managing wait-time expectations.

Dr Haus was right up front with me from the first time I met him with my first visit. He and his entire staff left no room for doubt in my situation and what I was being faced with. I'm glad my family doctors sent me straight to him and I am thankful he was able to work me in. Had it been otherwise I'm not so sure, 13 years later, if I would be here writing this review today. I did not only meet and expert physician in his field, I feel I made a close friend for the rest of my life. No regrets
Dr . Haas and Virginia, PA are top notch! Bedside manner A plus. I went in for a GYN surgery and due to other issues associated with my colon Dr. Haas was called in to assist with the surgery. Within hours of surgery I received a visit. Information about the surgery was explained in a detailed manner while also allowing me to ask questions. I never felt like my concerns were not important or that there was a hurry to visit the next patient. Since the surgery I have had several telehealth phone visits. As a fellow member of the health care industry I can without hesitation say both Dr. Haas and Virginia represent the BEST that healthcare offers and for that I am grateful.
We were so pleased with Dr. Haas and his staff. They were so professional and informative. They did not miss a beat. They saw my husband, evaluated him and came up with a plan. Avoiding the chance of more complications they promptly scheduled a surgery to remove his cancer. It was a successful resection. We were blessed to be cared for by Dr. Haas and his staff. We are thankful for his knowledge and talent.
There are times in our lives that despite poor odds you are given a "glimmer of hope"…which in my case was finding Dr Eric Haas! I had complicated diverticulitis with perforation, fistula and abscess requiring 17 months of antibiotics and a temporary colostomy. I was only given a 50/50 chance of having a successful colostomy reversal. I strongly believed that before settling for a colostomy for the rest of my life it would be up to me to research other solutions or surgical techniques. Thus, I started a detailed internet search on complicated diverticulitis surgical options. This is when I found multiple research articles which Dr Haas had published on an innovative, completely robotic procedure for colon resection which he developed called the NICE procedure. I am from Washington State and prior to my illness worked as a critical care RN and care manager in the ICU/CCU for over 40 years. I would have literally gone anywhere to find a solution to get rid of my colostomy. I had multiple virtual appointments with different surgeons all over the United States but it wasn't until I spoke with Dr Haas that I knew I was on the right path (he was my 4th “second opinion”). He immediately had a plan and was confident I would have a great outcome…and he was right! I flew to Houston and had surgery then was discharged from the hospital within 2 days. The surgery was involved but was a huge success and my colostomy was reversed! During my post-op course I had very little pain and no narcotic medication. Amazing! I would like to encourage anyone to reach out to his competent, friendly office staff and schedule an appointment if you have complicated colorectal issues… even if you have been told there is nothing that can be done. I have total faith in Dr Haas and believe that traveling to Texas and having surgery was the best decision I have ever made! I am back living an active life and doing well because of his expertise and care. Don’t hesitate to reach out…Dr Haas is the best!!!
My overall assessment of Dr Haas and his team is that office is chaotic and unorganized. It is difficult getting in touch with anyone. You must diligently follow up yourself or you will not get answers/results or be provided with proper aftercare. His surgical skills may be exceptional, but he is extremely arrogant, he was dismissive of my pain, did not address all of my concerns on multiple visits and he gaslit me. Neither he nor anyone from his staff saw me after my surgery, and he did not follow up with the hospital to ensure proper aftercare, leading to excruciating pain in the hospital. Weeks later, I was having extreme pain in the surgical area, and I could not get through to anyone. I then requested the surgical report which is how I learned the extent of the surgery, which I would have expected to learn in the hospital from him or his staff immediately following surgery. When I was able to actually speak to him the next day, he denied providing inappropriate aftercare (his pre-op appointment contradicted this), gaslit me stating my pain existed pre-surgery (this was a new pain which is why I became concerned in the first place), and stated multiple times that I should appreciate what he did for me. In another encounter, he made me wait for 4 hours on the portal for the follow up appointment, and every time I would disconnect because of long wait times, his office would call me within minutes to ask me to get back on the portal and wait for him as he was ready for me. He never showed up claiming he had surgery, but they failed to reschedule me and continued to insist I remain on the portal waiting for him. If you choose to work with Dr Haas and his team, demand post-surgery follow up and proper aftercare procedures. Prepare yourself for a successful procedure and recovery by being your own most diligent advocate.
Dr. Haas is one-of-a-kind. His bedside manner and professionalism helped relieve my nerves about having surgery. It was a total success... no more pain for me. I turn 50-years-old this year and now with Dr. Haas's expertise, I'm looking forward to 50 more! Thank you!
I decided to go with Dr. Haas for my diverticulitis surgery after doing a lot of research online and trying to find the best colorectal surgeon. I live in Austin, but it was well worth the drive to Houston to have Dr. Haas perform my surgery. It has been one week since I had surgery, and I can say that I am healing very well and do not have any complications post-surgery. In my opinion, he’s one of the best in his field. That is why his office is always busy with patients, both local and out of town patients such as myself. I highly recommend him!
Dr. Haas is one of the best surgeons in his field. I drove from Austin to Houston to have Dr. Haas perform my surgery for diverticulitis. It has been a week since surgery, and I am healing very well and do not have any complications. I highly recommend him!
Outstanding surgeon. Meticulous and careful. Outstanding team. Great outcome.
Outstanding surgeon and team. Great outcome
Dr. Hass provided top notch care from the moment he reviewed my records and saw me for a consult the very next day. He was knowledgeable and professional and exceeded the high accolades from those who recommended him. I appreciated his straight-forward but caring manner when presenting options. He was responsive when I experienced post-op pain, managed it in the hospital and followed up during my recovery period. His NP, Virginia Alagugurusamy, is a perfect complement to him and was key in my treatment as well. The both took the time to answer my many questions and alleviated my fears about a major surgery and the prognosis. Their caring but knowledgeable approach made my experience with Houston Colon a positive one. Office staff needs improvement and were a constant source of frustration. Brittney Geistman, Office Coordinator intervened though, became my primary contact, & did the job of multiple people in the office. She deserves the same 5-star rating of Dr. Haas and Virginia.
Don’t expect Dr. Haas to care about your post op-situation. He lacks professionalism. Most of his office staff also lack professionalism. They will not respond to emails, calls and fail to follow through with test scheduling. In addition, your time is not valuable to this doctor. Extremely long wait times in office and even disrespectfully long waits via virtual visits. With other great surgeons in the area, there is no reason to accept this treatment.
horrible follow-ups. VERY unorganized and even worse communication. hated every minute that I had to deal with anyone in his office. will be filing complaints. horrible experience, so much so that it's difficult to believe any of these reviews are actually real. would NOT recommend to anyone for anything.
I could not get followup from scheduling team; Brittany. I received no email responses or follow up phone calls without several attempts and no patient concern. Actually, rude behavior talking over and talking down to me.
This is a busy practice but very efficient. Referred by my gastro doc, they analyzed my situation very professionally. I had robotic partial colectomy as soon as possible. Dr Haas is clearly one of the best surgeons in his field.
Referred by my gastro doc to Dr Haas. What a busy but superb practice. My issue was serious and Dr Haas had me in surgery as soon as possible. Difficult surgery performed magnificently. He is one of the best colorectal surgeons in the country. Highly recommend.
I have a miracle healing story about colon cancer to tell you that is really long so this is the short one, long one coming soon. Thank you Dr Haas and your team. You saved my life!!!!
Three weeks ago I had my surgery and everything went extremely well from the beginning to the end of the surgery. I highly recommend Dr. Haas and his team to anyone needing help in his field of medicine.
My experience with Dr. Hass was excelent. I needed a highly skilled doctor that could resolve my case. I traveled from Austin to Houston because I believe that I was going to receive the best care. Dr. Hass is a caring and highly experienced physician, he is very busy but manages to give you his full attention and quality care. I am grateful for having made the right decision having Dr. Hass take care of me. Thank you
Absolutely a great dr !
Dr Hass is simply the best Colorectal surgeon in Houston. He and his entire staff are top notch and very professional. From Dr Weaver who performed my colonoscopy, to Virginia, Dr Hass"s P.A. I couldn't have asked for a better and more caring team.. I was out of the hospital in 48 hrs after my Robotic surgery and have not looked back. If you need the Best, Dr Hass and his team are it.
I am Liliana Betiu and I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Hass at Houston Colon Center, Once he decided it is time to do something about my car accident repercussions (open wound with Enterocutaneous Fistula) everything changed for good. He was very professional, personable exemplary care, very kind and excellent physician. Everything was clearly explained of our questions and concerns. Thank you for re-giving my life back. If you are looking for angels, he is one of them.
Dr Haas is one of the best doctors I’ve ever been to. He is friendly, nice, smart, informative, great surgeon and just overall a genially good person. I’d pick him every time for any colon rectal issues. If you need a great doctor, then you will not be disappointed with Dr Haas. I went to him 12 years ago and just recently followed up with him again. I was just as impressed now as I was back then. The best part is that he is a fantastic surgeon, yet he is so down to earth and puts you at ease the minute you meet him!
Awful. go somewhere else. when I got a second opinion, the surgeon asked why was he doing this, we trained him, this is not how you fix a rectal prolapse. Found another surgeon. Mirror other complaints, long waits, arrogant, God complex
Excelent, very fast and no pain
My surgery and the entire process was an amazing experience with Dr Haas and his entire team His expertise in colon and rectal surgeries immediately put me at ease and I am extremely pleased with the outcome I definitely recommend Dr Haas and his practice to anyone needing surgery in his field
Dr. Haas was able to take care of prolapsed hemorrhoids in two visit that two other doctors couldn’t or wouldn’t, and that is what they advertised. Gold start to Dr. Haas.
I live in the Woodlands, after seeing 2 CR surgeons locally and insisted I needed sphincter surgery, I was referred to Dr.Haas by another CR surgeon from Dallas. For 9 months I fought the fissure battle which then turned into a fistula and abscess. I was desperate to find the right team who would not only take care of me physically but also mentally as it’s a very debilitating road to travel. If you have not gone through a Fissure then you cannot understand how this little tear can cause so much pain and discomfort! Dr Haas and his staff (Virginia) were so incredible, they listened and explained everything to me. Im the type of person that need visuals to understand the PA Virginia would grab models and charts and show me exactly what was going on. I live in the Woodlands and I would travel to the Medical Center any day to be in the hands of Dr. Haas and his team! If you are going through anything with your colon rectal area I highly recommend calling Dr. Hoas and his team!!!
Dr. Haas recommended a robotic procedure after reviewing my case. He, or one of his associates, explained how the Davinci tool would work. The procedure was successful which eliminated the need to consider a colon resection.
The recommended procedure and path forward, for surgery was right on. After one week recuperating soundly.
Earlier this year I went into emergency surgery with an obstruction in my intestine/colon. Dr. Haas and his team were able to quickly perform surgery. The procedure, which is usually very obtrusive, was performed robotically. Due to this unobtrusive method of surgery, I was walking around hours after surgery, experienced very little discomfort in my recovery, and was able to minimize the pain medications that were prescribed. I have 4 small scars on my abdomen that are hardly noticeable and was able to go back to work right away and begin working out 6 weeks later with little to no discomfort. Understanding the state I was in and that surgery was necessary, this procedure and the minimal discomfort upon recovery was truly remarkable.
My relationship with Dr. Haas was excellent. He was able to take care of my problem completely in about five visits. I am extremely happy with the results.
Dr Haas & staff are AWESOME. He’s taken care of my husband using Ligation Banding 3 times. Each was extremely successful. His staff are very caring. Wouldn’t want to see anyone else. He’s the BEST.
Dr Haas through the surgery to remove my colon has helped me immensely. Due to ulcerative colitis I had a great deal of pain for many years. I now have no pain and live normally again. Dr Haas and his team provided outstanding service through the entire process. I highly recommend him for any patient with digestive complications.
Dr. Eric Haas was God sent to me him and his team treated me very well going through this process of stage B3 colon cancer was scary especially not knowing anything about cancer Dr. Haas assured me that everything would be OK. The surgery went great no one can work those robotic hands like him. It's been 3 years now that I have been cancer free I thank God for allowing Dr. Haas and I to cross paths. Thank you very very much!!!
Dr. Haas and his entire team go above and beyond to take care of me and to the very best for my health. I am so blessed to be able to be a patient there. I recommend the office to everyone!
Recommended by Dr Holland in Beaumont to Dr Haas after colonoscopy which showed multiple polyps at rectum. Care was excellent in hospital and every visit. Extremely high level of confidence in Dr Haas.
My words cannot properly express how grateful I am to Dr. Eric Haas and his team - Dr. Jean LeFave, Dr. Matthew Waver for the successful outcome of the two surgeries I have undergone this year, in March when the bowel obstruction surgery resulted in me wearing a stoma bag until August, when the colostomy was reversed to attach my bowel together surgically. The team went above and beyond to address all my surgical requirements, as well as to provide care at my bedside, and during recovery through tele-health service and office visits. Special thanks to Lauren Block and Virginia Alagugurudamy as well for their knowledgeable care and emotional support. Given the minimal invasive nature of the robotic surgery I have undergone 4 weeks ago I experience speedy recovery, with limited need for pain medication . I consider myself fortunate to live in Houston and have access to healthcare provided with such professionalism by the Houston Colon team.
Pro tip: Go somewhere else. Go to any other provider. Not this guy. This doctor is unreal! Perhaps I should have read all of the 1 star reviews before moving forward with my OB's recommendation to see Dr Haas. For my initial telehealth appt I was on the computer for 3 hours, he didnt show up, I called several times, was told to wait for additional 15 minute periods. Finally, I received a call from his asst who had the personality of stale bread, was essentially repeating and relaying info to him WHO WAS SITTING RIGHT NEXT TO HER. I then get sent to take a CT scan, more timeliness issues, Had to chase the doctor only for him to accost me for 15 min about the inconsistencies on his team. Crazy. Too many great doctors to chose this one.
Three weeks post surgery I've been healing very well, the robotic surgery is a very advanced procedure, Dr. Haas and Dr. LeFave were able to correct my diverticulitis and a hernia at the same time. I received really great care from the staff, and Virginia is amazing. Talking to Dr. Haas was very encouraging especially after telling me and my wife that everything was going to go well. If any of my friends have diverticulitis I will definitely recommend Dr. Haas. If I could grade from 1-10 I would totally give them a 12.
Dr. Haas and his team did a great job addressing my health issues. Not only were they able to avoid a two-step surgery but I have healed quickly and have resumed almost normal activity. The surgery was a huge success and the team was very helpful keeping me informed about the surgery and steps after the surgery.
My son helped me get in contact with Dr Haas , I am very satisfied with the care I received and everything has gone very well after surgery. I definitely recommend Dr. Haas and Dr. Ionescu. My recovery is going very well!
Dr. Haas did a wonderful job of giving me a J-Pouch with his robotic surgery after losing my colon 6 months before from an emergency. I have no noticeable scars from the small incisions that were made and I was able to get rid of the bag. He and his staff gave me back my freedom. I have had no problems and no accidents. Through it all I felt like he and his staff really cared about me and my feelings.
Excellent
I was referred to Dr. Lefave, the staff is nice and helpful, I will spread the word to everyone I know, if someone needs a colon or rectal doctor I will refer to Houston Colon
Dr. Haas and staff has been great especially Virginia and Ricardo. At the very beginning I was very hesitant about having surgery, but everything explained thoroughly to me and I am very grateful. I would highly recommend Dr. Haas.
Dr. Haas and his staff were excellent. My case ended being more difficult than we expected and they were able to adjust. The entire staff has been awesome through this process.
After having 4 diverticulitis surgeries in another town resulting in a colostomy, I was referred to Dr. Haas and his team to consult for reversal surgery. Dr. Haas, who came with highest recommendations, agreed to schedule reversal surgery prior to 2 vacations we had scheduled. Due to complications from previous surgery, Dr. Haas was forced, after six hours of repair surgery, to perform an ileostomy, which he felt could be reversed prior to the vacation trips. After 6 weeks of healing, Dr. LeFave, Dr. Weaver, Dr. I, and Dr. Haas were able to totally reverse the ileostomy, and I feel I got my life back. Sadly, the corona virus caused the vacations to be cancelled, but still I cannot thank the doctors, the office staff, Virginia the nurse practitioner, and Ricardo for their concern and the wonderful care in my time of need. I also thank God for having guided me into their care. I must give them the HIGHEST recommendation for their help.
I highly recommend Dr. Haas and his staff. Excellent job on colon cancer surgery and he saved my life. He is the best!
Dr. Haas did a great job of removing a stage 1 mass from the ascending/transverse colon. (Dr. H was on standby for an attempt at endoscopic removal, which didn't work due to the mass location.) Perfect laparoscopic incision at the belly button, great pain management, quick recovery - thank you Dr. H! Dr Zhenpfennig was my contact during the hospital stay post-surgery. Dr Z came by both days, explaining what was going on. I was particularly impressed that he had come from Montana to learn the laparoscopic method from Dr. Haas - which says a lot about both of them. Finally, I also received extremely clear pathology explanation and specific followup instructions from NP Virginia A. Thank you! All in all, a great team! Now, a shout out to the nursing staff at Methodist. All were respectful, courteous, bright and cheerful...with a can-do attitude. I appreciate that so much - your attitude made a big difference when I was sick! Thank y'all
I went to see Dr Haas in February of 2019. I had a fistula between my colon and my vagina. Before being diagnosed with this new problem I had suffered for years with digestive issues. Lots of pain during bowel movements. Suffered from nausea and fainting too. He performed surgery on me one year ago today. Removed my sigmoid colon. He gave me back years of my life. It’s been the best year. No more problems going to the bathroom. He is awesome. He saved my life by repairing the fistula. And made a huge change in my quality of life. I’m so blessed. God bless him and his staff
ALL the staff is very helpful. And Dr.Haas was on point and knew what he was talking about.
Dr. Haas is very personable. I trust him, he is honest and reliable. Definitely one of the top doctors on this field. He is my number one choice.
Amazing! It was the easiest recovery and I feel very comfortable with Dr. Haas. I would recommend him to anyone.
I resisted colored tal surgery for two to three years due to fear and horror stories from people who have had it. I researched for the best and found Dr. Haas. He definitely is the best Colorectal surgeon out there. No pain or complaints after surgery.
Eight months later after a colon resection, I had three incisional hernias. One was big. Since I had to have a second surgery within the year Im not happy. Especially since I tried not to strain the area and did no exercise, just walking. I was not warned that the incisions could be very delicate. Even so I was very careful.
My experience was very positive overall. Fantastic support from the doctors and staff. I stayed for two days in the hospital and had no pain at all. Dr. Haas made me feel very comfortable, he definitely knows what he is doing. I’m very happy that he was my surgeon.
Extremely good doctor and staff has been more than helpful. I was referred to Dr Hass for UC after fighting the condition for several years. After explaining my options I determined that surgery with J-pouch was the best option. The surgery was fast and the recovery for me has also been fast allowing me to return to a simi-normal life with out always needing to fine a restroom. I wish I had taken this route sooner.
It's was great. I was really messed up and he fixed all my problems without having to get a poop bag. Everything went great and according to plan. I would highly recommend coming here even if you have to pay for parking and drive farther.
Great team.
The staff was incredible and the procedure was life changing for me. Dr. Haas helped make my everyday way better.
This experience was exceptional. I received quality care, everything was explained to us. The staff was fantastic in guiding us throughout the entire experience. I knew I was in excellent hands right from the beginning. Dr. Haas has an incredible team.
I suffered with Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s for several years. I was only till I was introduced with Dr. Haas that I felt that I found the perfect doctor to help me go through this experience. I immediately felt I was in good hands. He was extremely reassuring at all points. The outcome was fantastic. Dr. Haas brought me a new life.
This is a high quality team of people. They have a right attitude with their interaction with patients. Dr. Haas and his team they really came around me in a way that was not only profesional but as a medical family to guide me through a very difficult challenge. They gave me a new birth at life, more importantly the human relationship has been very touching. They make sure that there ir a doctor patient relationship. I leave here with a very positive experience and very grateful for everything.
Congratulations to Dr. Haas and his team for their professionalism and their attentions.
Five years ago I found out through a colonoscopy I suffered from colon cancer and was referred to Dr. Haas. It was removed immediately afterwards and ever since then I have bee feeling great. His staff has always been great with me throughout-the years. I have great confidence in Dr. Haas' ability. I am thankful for his surgery, his advice. I will recommend his service to everyone. I am very thankful to have found him.
