Dr. Emilio Rene Cardona

He is a fantastic psychiatrist he took very good care of me when I was in the hospital (Behavioral Health of Bellaire) due to being there under a mental health warrant. I had a terrible psychotic break aka a nervous breakdown. I lost several days, probably about 10 days,of my life due to not having ANY memory of what was going on those days. They showed me video of the way I was behaving and trust me I was exactly where I needed to be at that horrible time in my life. Fortunately he was the psychiatrist assigned to me. When I finally came around and was myself again he was VERY kind, caring, compassionate, and empathetic Dr, probably the best Dr that I have ever taken care of me. I have since returned to that hospital 2 times and they always had him as my treating psychiatrist. Every time I was admitted to that dungeon of a so called hospital he was my treating psychiatrist. He remembered me right away, and there were a few years between the times I was treated there. One day when I was in the hospital I was a complete mess and the nurses couldn't give a damn, when he arrived to see his patients he called me first because he could tell that I wasn't even remotely myself he could tell that I was having a really bad day. He called me into the little area that he sees patients in left the door open and hugged me then I started crying, but that was what I needed apparently because I am not a crier and definitely not.a hugger. I detest being touched by people that aren't family or very close friends. Overall, great Dr and human being. In my brief and unpleasant experience with him a few years ago, I found Dr. Cardona to be impatient and unprofessional. He was resistant to the idea of working with me to improve outcomes when my current treatment path was not working. Was left frustrated and disappointed with the subpar and inappropriate treatment he offered. Have not since had a negative experience with any healthcare provider in the Houston area-- if you are able, look elsewhere. Prior to my first visit I was taking my antianxiety med, Buspar, three times a day, as needed. He informed me he would not make changes. I am in a facility that dispenses my meds. He wrote the Buspar three a day. If they give it to me the med at the schedule time of 8a then if I have an anxiety episode at 10a, I am not able to have medication to calm down. The receptionist will not allow me to make an appointment to see him. This is an issue I really need to discuss with him. I do not recommend him. Horrible, he never listened to what I said, and it took another doctor to correctly diagnose me. I had a real story to tell him and the time I had with him after 5 minutes, he proceeded to diagnose me as psychotic because my story was illogical and that I had a real life stalker. To me, he never heard the whole story that he never shared the time to sit and talk with me about the whole situation, though I even have been dealing with the police about my situation. Dr. Cardona is extremely caring and professional. He has extensive training in pharmacology and found the right combination of medications to help me. I am very pleased with his treatment.

Took me off my meds. Tried me on every antidepressant there was. I was in bad shape when I saw this doctor!
