I have been seeing Dr Lin for 14 years. She was my 4th pain management doctor and ended up being the “right” one after so many wrong ones. She is caring and direct and always puts the patients needs above all else. I’m not into “there’s an opioid for everything” and do not like taking pills. She listens and gives other alternatives to help you. In fact, she even founded a group of doctors and providers to help give alternative choices and rehabilitation to her patients. She’s always evolving. She was also the first woman surgeon in San Antonio to do neurostimulator surgery and continues to try and find the best solutions in that area as well for her patients. I highly recommend her as a doctor.

I apologize in advance as this is rather lengthy. After waiting 2 weeks to get to my appointment so I could get new pain med prescriptions, I arrived only to be told: 1) my appointment had been canceled, 2) I'd been dropped as a patient, and 3) no prescriptions would be written. All without cause as I have never abused the use of my meds, nor did I have any known issues with Dr. Lin. Why they failed to inform me during those 2 weeks prior is unknown. No explanation was offered and it was such a lack of common courtesy. To make things worse, Dr. Lin and her staff were aware I was running out of pain meds during that time and insisted I had to wait for the appointment. Dr. Lin would not call the prescriptions in to the Pharmacy until I could be seen by her. As I had been taking controlled substances, I suffered through withdrawals for over 10 days. And I'm still in significant pain as I continue without meds while waiting to see a new physician. Run, don't walk away from this incompetent and unprofessional medical practice.

As mentioned in other reviews, the front desk/admin staff is incompetent, often unprepared and even downright rude at times. Dr. Lin, her technician Tony and the nurses are wonderful. It's a shame that patients who are already in pain have to deal with such awful administrators to get to the people who can help them; the font office staff really ruins the experience. Dr. Lin is excellent and I really would like to leave 5 stars just for her. Also her medical asst. in the treatment room was very nice and professional. However, the staff is so disorganized. I scheduled a follow-up this morning and by the afternoon received 5 phone calls to confirm 2 different times (same date) including one phone to my husband's cell (I assume looking at emergency contact person instead of the actual patient). I ended up with the same date but a new time (10 mins. before the original assigned hour). Keep in mind -3 different workers, 3 different appt. times on the same date. I had an appt. in Dec., confirmed my co-pay, and had my treatment. In January as I went to pay another $35 for the second treatment the SAME receptionist now tried to charge me $325-which is the HOSPITAL co-pay, not the co-pay for in-office procedures. It took another person to come over and verify it was, indeed, only $35. Not cool. Dr. Lin is excellent and I really would like to leave 5 stars just for her. Dr Lin herself is fantastic but her office staff are something else entirely. They are disorganized as heck and if you try to call, you never get an answer from the actual people in the office. Your appointment will never be "on time " and they never know who you are or why you are there. My experience with Dr. Lin is summed up in one visit. On Wednesday I was at the office for a nerve ablation where the MA did not give me the correct medication needed for the procedure. As the procedure carried on I began crying from the pain I was in so to not receiving the correct combination of medication. Dr. Lin proceeded to open the procedure room door and yell across the whole office to the MA “this is what happens when we don’t do our jobs right”. At this time, she was also on her cellphone ON FACETIME talking with some man instead of helping me. Due to Dr Lin speaking so loudly and leaving the procedure room door wide open, everyone in the whole office could see me and hear me sobbing. This included all other patients and their visitors, all MA’s and thankfully my family as well. When my family heard me crying, they immediately went to my aid. The MA entered the procedure room at the same as my family. When my family demanded to know what went wrong, the MA stated that I had declined the pain medication (which was obviously untrue). My family told Dr. Lin ( who had now apparently ended her FaceTime call) that the employee was lying and that NOT ONLY was I never offered the medication, that I would have taken it if offered. I have had similar procedures in the past with Dr. Lin’s office and happily took the medicine at each of the procedures leading up to this one. Furthermore, Dr. Lin and her assisting tech were very reluctant to give me more medicine in an effort to reduce my pain, telling my family numerous times that I just have a “low pain tolerance”. I was in excruciating pain but unable to speak because of the sedation, luckily my family could tell from my body language that I was in pain and advocated on my behalf that I receive help. Without them, I believe that I wouldn’t have received anything else to relieve my pain because Dr. Lin and her team continued to try and convince my family that I was just being “emotional” and had a “low pain tolerance.” I was so sedated that I could not speak AT ALL to defend myself against the lies of the MA, or to communicate that I was not “just feeling emotional” that I was actually suffering exponentially. After much advocation on my behalf from my family, Dr. Lin then told a different employee to give me the meds that I was supposed to get at the beginning - but to just have me sign for it first. She implied that she was afraid that I would choke on the medication because I was so sedated from an alternative medicine and wanted to excuse her office from liability in the event that I did end up choking. My mother who had come in the room replied “excuse me? She’s sedated? She can’t sign for anything, you know that!”. Dr Lin said “well I’m trying to help her, what would you like me to do?”. My mom replied and said “well yes help her but she can’t sign for anything in this state!”. Dr. Lin then replied “We’ve given her enough medication already that she shouldn’t even be breathing! I didn’t want to help your daughter anyways! I’m doing this out of the kindness of my heart!”. My mother then said “I’m gonna need you to stop talking because as a clinician you and I both know you cannot say those things”. Dr. Lin walked out of the room and came back in with a sticky note and told my mother “here is the number to the best malpractice lawyer in San Antonio! If you wanna sue me, sue me!”. Eventually, the tech gave me an injectable pain killer. Dr Lin disappeared around this time and never came back to assist me or check on me again. The rest of her staff all also walked out of the room and left a single tech to help my mother and my very pregnant fiancé bring me into another room to lay me down and give me more medication. What is also unfortunate about the situation is that I was not issued an apology from Dr. Lin or the manager who I spoke to the next day. Instead I received a letter in the mail THE VERY NEXT DAY afterwards notifying me that Dr. Lin was dismissing me from her car

First visit went OK. She has predetermined ideas as to what might work. The follow up visits went poorly. During one treatment, I was called a wimp. One drug prescribed was something that would need to be taken for life or suffer terrible withdrawal symptoms. My latest and last experiences were even worse. After 2 minutes of diagnosing, she left the room. A nurse came into the room and said we were done. I can't say there was any discussion as to what would happen next. Finally, a failure to supply paperwork to the MRI people had me cancelling those appointments twice. I was told VIA the portal things would be fixed in 24 -48 hours. 4 days later, nothing. She might have been great at things, but those days are over. It's strictly a money grabbing deal now.

Dr. Ellen Lin is an incredible doctor and person. She cares about the ”whole” person not just the pain. She will go above and beyond to help in making sure your needs are met. Recently I was diagnosed with breast cancer and I happened to have a telephone appointment with her. She quickly helped me find the right people I needed. Not her job and she made it hers to help me. She personally saved my life with her recommendations. In this world today to have a Doctor that truly cares about you is a miracle. Thank you will never be enough to pay her back. Oh by the way, an incredible pain doc too????????

Worst experience EVER for my elderly mother. Do NOT bring your parent here at all. My mother had an appointment at 2 pm and Lin did not see her until almost four hours later. And actually she never saw my mother. In fact, she never greeted my mother and didn’t even tell my mother what procedure she was going to do or that she would be having to go under anesthesia. And post-procedure did not even talk to my elderly mother and walked away from my father as he tried to ask her a question about my mother’s health. And my mother remains in pain post procedure. In fact, we doubt that she even treated my mother at all since she remains in pain. And that Lin was MIA the entire time. Just find someone else. It’s not worth the drive to her office. Find another doctor that speaks to her patients and treats them like human beings. Health care is expensive and should not be wasted on someone who can’t even talk to her patient. Dr Lin is really nice and persinable, however, she doesnt seem to remember the comversations. A PA is now being used and visits are now required monthly if you wish to be prescribed narcatics. Unfortunately, it feels that they are more concerned with getting a high nu.ber of patients versus concentrating on the quality of care.

I have never been so badly treated by any doctor. I had questions and needed answers. I had shared with her that my mother had dementia and that I was showing signs of the illness. I NEVER should have done that as she emotionally damaged me by saying to me " you are a very sick woman you have severe dementia" . I take Cerafolin NAC for memory issues and it has worked great. That morning I had awakened happy, mentally sharp and was ready for the day. Upon leaving her office I could not hold back the tears I broke down and cried in the Radiology department. Cindy was so very kind and tried to console me. I went home and got in bed. I'm very fragile as I lost a son recently and am still grieving. No one should be verbally abused for any reason. I love Dr Lin and her office staff! I had been to a different pain management/spine doctor for 6 months and had a horrible experience. I had no relief and was met with indifference and given stronger and stronger opioids rather than a real treatment plan. My regular doctor was concerned because the meds this awful doctor was prescribing for me were meant for elderly people with no hope of recovery, not a young-ish woman still in the workforce. Luckily, my regular doctor referred me to Dr. Lin, and I'm ever so grateful. First of all, Dr. Lin has very warm, professional office staff. I have genuinely nice interactions with them every time I go there or call. Dr. Lin, while efficiently seeing a large volume of patients and doing procedures, never rushes you. She takes the time to listen attentively and ask the right questions to come up with an effective plan of action. She's genuinely concerned and caring. Most importantly, I have had tremendous pain relief. When it returns (because it always does) we work together to create a new regimen to get relief again. Dr. Lin is a fabulous pain management specialist. She practiced on her own for many years and was so popular that she got overwhelmed trying to manage all the patients that were referred to her. She responded by adding not one but 2 other pain management specialists to her practice. I am a surgeon and have sent my patients exclusively to her for 16 years and never had a complaint. Horrible office location. She is not experienced nor does she have the latest technology with regard to determining the exact path the medicine takes. Up-to-date pain management doctors watch, during the injection, the path the steroid medicine is on. They also draw their own conclusions after viewing your MRI on a monitor. ALWAYS ask about their technology...in the not to distant past, steroid injections were a pot-shot! I canned the doctor who referred me to her. She had to have known.

Dr. Lin is amazing! I have been living with lower back pain for about five years and my doctors at home have never been able to figure out why. They never did any tests. When a friend recommended this doctor I was hoping I would be able to find out the cause of my pain. Within 10 minutes of walking in the door she told me I have scoliosis and told me a number of other things that have been contributing to my pain. She ordered an MRI and an X-Ray of my back. When I went back to go over the results, she hadn't even sat down yet and she said that I am too young for this, I'm 20. The MRI showed I had a herniated disk. All of this happened in a week and for years I've been living in pain with nobody knowing why. She has changed my life for the better and has told me the necessary things in order to manage my build and to build muscle strength. I honestly believe she is a rarity and I'm glad to have been seen by her. Dr. Lin is amazing! She is truly dedicated to her patients. I saw her with a friend & ended up needing her services myself. I'm so glad to have her. As an RN, I'm kind of diffficult & also have other medical isuues & she is one of the rare doctors who still have practices for the right reasons, to help people. I would highly recomend her to anyone with spinal problems or problems with chronic pain. She is truly dedicated to her patients. I saw her with a friend & ended up needing her services myself.
