Ellen Harpole

Terrible bedside manner. I can appreciate a Dr that doesn’t sugarcoat stuff but she is just flat out rude. I saw her in January and the things she said to me had me driving home in tears. She said things to me that made me feel like I was going to be a terrible mother. When I got home I immediately called another OB office and switched. I do not recommend anyone her to anyone that’s bigger than a size two.

Dr. Harpole was the first gynecologist I ever saw in the late 00’s when I was only 18 and she is the reason I didn’t see one again for many years. Only just a few years ago I met my current gynecologist, Dr. Daum and she is a godsend. Every time I left Harpole’s office, I cried. She would talk down to me when I spoke of wanting kids in the future and her answer to all my issues with PCOS and irregular periods was to lose weight. One visit, she recommended a colposcopy biopsy and that we could do it that day. I said sure, having no idea what that was and she did not even let me know it would be painful or let me take a pain reliever beforehand. She is the absolute worst doctor I have ever had in my life and I am STILL almost 20 years later not okay with how she treated me as a young girl just out of high school wanting help because she knew something wasn’t normal with her body. I would not recommend her to anyone and have told anyone asking over the years to never go to her. I should have written this review years ago.

I have had two babies with her, chose Dr Harpole based solely off the positive reviews in 2017. But now I know she is the most insincere doctor. She is knowledgeable, but very cold and has absolutely no bedside manner. Her nurse is just as bad, literally laughed on the phone with other nurses in the background while telling me I had lost my baby. I have since switched to another doctor & hopefully things look up from here.

Dr. Harpole has been my OBGYN going on 10 years now and it has been nothing but a positive experience. She is very intelligent and always treated me and my partner with respect. Her office staff and nurses are fantastic and kind. I've never had any issues with her. She is kind and I felt comfortable asking her anything. I recommend her to anyone. !!! From my understanding of an upstanding place of healthcare is where patients feel safe, not judged, and appreciated. A good, and even a great place of healthcare takes into consideration not only the physical health of patients but the mental health as well. An even better place of healthcare will find the correlation between mental and physical health and how one affects the other. Unfortunately the Deaconess Women's Hospital failed at all aspects of remotely being even a decent place of healthcare. I will say that if you are a person who is proud of your journey, especially in the areas of weight loss and mental health I would not recommend the Deaconess Women's Hospital, especially in the care of Dr. Ellen Harpole. If you are looking to feel the worst you have felt mentally about your health in years, Dr. Ellen Harpole will deliver. The receptionist and nurses were so sweet. I feel terrible they have to work for her. The ladies were sweet and made an exception for me to bring my 6 year old in. Dr. Harpole came in and was rude from the very beginning to my child and to me. I didn’t finish the exam and told her we were leaving. Would not recommend, she was very unprofessional and rude to my wife the last time she saw her. Dr. Harpole made some homophobic comments to my wife, hasn't been back in over a year due to her unprofessional attitude. Also she gave her some medical information that sounds questionable, a second opinion is very much necessary.

Very good with communication and gives you all of your options without pressuring you into anything.

I recommend her based on the sole fact that she is very knowledgeable and will explain anything and everything you want to know. She’s not there to be your best friend but to inform you. My husband and I like how she doesn’t waste our time and gives us the straight facts. Her comments can be considered rude or a little off, but I just brush them off because that’s how she is with her job. Could you imagine arguing with patients everyday? Even though you were the one who went to school for this? Gets tiring. The main reason I stay is because she doesn’t beat around the bush with us and did really well with us after we had lost our daughter due to anencephaly. If you’re looking for a doctor that will act as your best friend then she’s not the one. If you want someone knowledgable and straight to the point then she’s your doctor to go to! DO NOT RECOMMEND. I started seeing her around 18 because that is who my mother had me go to. When i got pregnant at 25, i continued with her as she was the only OBGYN i had been to. She insulted me and called me fat while pregnant (i had gained 25 lbs.) She has absolutely no personality and is very dry. She would not communicate effectively and treated me horrible. I transferred to Dr. Walker and he is very outgoing, personable, and friendly.

I went to her for the last time about 4 years ago. Her bed side manner was terrible. I will absolutely never go to her again.

Been to a couple different Dr. and she is very professional and kind lady makes you feel like you're the only patient shes worried about. Doesn't pressure you into different services but gives you options.

Dr. Harpole is very knowledgeable, and takes time to answer questions and concerns thoroughly. Each office visit is timely and communication is good. Good overall experience!

Extremely rude! I’m so glad she doesn’t work with my current obgyn anymore. My experience was awful and I would never ever let this woman deliver my child.

Dr. Harpole is easy to talk to and takes time to answer all of my questions and concerns. She performed my surgery and I felt I had the best possible experience. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful.

Ellen Harpole has been my doctor for 10+ years!!! I would never want to go anywhere else!! She is an amazing doctor!!!

Ellen always gives you the best advice she can and doesn't beat around the bush. Very straightforward. I like that in her. She's great!

Dr. Harpole has been absolutely wonderful to work with. She answers questions straight forward and takes time to help you make the best decision about your health. She helped me confidently manage my health through my high risk pregnancy and celebrated the birth of my oldest son! She and her staff helped me through loss my second child. Dr. Harpole took time to listen to me walk through the loss and called to check on me afterwards.

I have been in Dr. Harpole's care for many years. She is always been thorough, thoughtful, respectful, tactful and compassionate, all qualities you want from a OBGYN. Of my peers, my recovery from a hysterectomy was the quickest, most painless, and I was back to my regular activities within 3 weeks. I heartily recommend Dr. Harpole.

I have been seeing Dr. Harpole for 11 years now. My previous obgyn of 9 yrs passed away of pancreatic cancer & I had a hard time even thinking of going to someone new. Going to Dr. Harpole has been a blessing & the best decision I could've made! She has been through the thick of it with me, delivered my 3rd child via c-section, diagnosed several issues I was having & performed my hysterectomy. She continues to look out for my health, follows up with me, & takes the time to answer my questions.

Dr. Harpole did my hysterectomy and removed a large polyp last year. I was back to work in 10 days without complications. She is fabulous and I highly recommend her. She is professional and caring. She listens to what you say and makes recommendations to help you achieve your goals.

I've been a patient of Dr. Harpole's for at least 10 years now. She and her staff have been nothing but nice and professional. They're always willing to help. She has gotten me through two pregnancies and a couple different procedures. During this time not only did Dr. Harpole make me feel at ease during my pregnancies, she helped my husband as well. Dr. Harpole has seen me through two pregnancies. She is fantastic at remaining calm and explaining what is happening. She patiently answered my questions in a matter-of-fact manner. She is very encouraging and optimistic. Her staff is tops! I trust her completely and would recommend her to anyone!

Just had an IUD put in and it was so easy! I had been on the pill for years and it was messing with my hormone levels. Dr. Harpole discussed my option with me and helped me make an educated decision! She is smart and listens to what I have to say.

I really appreciate a doctor to take time with me. She listened to my problems and came up with good solutions without hesitation. Nice staff and pleasant experience. I highly recommend! Thank you!

Dr. Harpole was great at helping me throughout my second pregnancy. She was informative and always made me feel at ease during the process. I called her several times... I know I drove her crazy with the questions. She was there for me through it all.

Dr. Harpole is a fantastic doctor. She is efficient, patient, thorough, and above all - professional. She was integral to the safe and successful delivery of our baby (born on April 11, 2017) and I would absolutely recommend her to others looking for an efficient OBGYN.

Dr. Harpole has been my OB/GYN since 2008. She is knowledgeable and I always feel confident with the care I receive from her. Being pregnant with our fourth child now, there is no one else I could imagine taking care of me and my baby. She listens to all of my concerns and answers all of my questions.

Dr. Harpole is fantastic! I had a different gynecologist for a few years but was having some major health concerns that that doctor just kept attributing to stress. I didn't really buy that reasoning as my problems progressed so I went to Dr. Harpole for a second opinion after being recommended to her by some friends. She's insanely smart and a straight shooter which is great because I like having that transparency in a doctor. Plus, it makes her trustworthy in my eyes. I highly recommend her.

Dr. Harpole was a pleasure to work with and helped me feel comfortable with my pregnancy. She explained thing to us in a way that made me fully understand what was to be expected. I will trust her with my next child as well. Also, I did not feel rushed through the office... she took time for me and my husband.
