My father had robotic heart surgery in May 2022 by Dr. Murphy and suffered a stroke during surgery. It took three weeks to confirm, only due to our getting Palliative Care involved. We were told that nothing could have been done IF he truly did have a stroke. Our lives have been forever changed. My father can no longer drive, ride a bike, climb stairs or any of the activities he enjoyed in the past. We have deep regrets not having gone to Cleveland Clinic where they have protocol for a person suffering a stroke during surgery. It was not the case at the Meijer Heart Center and we fell through the cracks. My father is suffering vascular dementia now, he can no longer walk, and his life expectancy is greatly diminished. He will be lucky if he lives 1 year post op.
I was not expected to live after my heart attack and ECMO experience. Dr. Murphy believed in me and gave me my open heart surgery. I am still here 8 years later. Thank you Dr. Murphy
