Dr. Edward D Kim

I had kidney stones about 8-10 years ago and Dr. Kim took care of that issue for me. I have another kidney stone now and am going to him because of the service and professionalism he showed before. He is very knowledgeable and treated me well. I wouldn't want to go to anyone else for this type of treatment unless Dr. Kim just wasn't available. Very glad he is still practicing in the Knoxville area.

I saw Dr. Kim three weeks ago and he recommended surgery to remove several stones. He told me someone would contact me to schedule the surgery. I have yet to hear from anyone and I left two messages with no return call. It actually gave me a chance to read the reviews. I'll consider it divine intervention that nobody called. Absolutely worst doctor experience ever. Always students in room with Rr. Kim and he has no control and/or doesn't care how his students talk to you. It happened more than once. And Dr. Kim seems to have no concern or appears to have very little interest of listening to your consers . Would never recommend Dt. Kim office at University of Tennessee hospital Alcoa Hwy Knoxville Tennessee

Dr Kim does not correctly refer male patients to physical therapy who have chronic pelvic pain. He sent one of my patients to a local physical therapist who had not completed his pelvic ffloor training. Obviously the referral was useless because of this.

Dr. Kim has been mentioned on "The Doctors" television show. He is very well educated. He knows what he is doing.

I have never in my 68 years experienced the disrespect, abusive treatment and contempt for my well being as I have at University Urology particularly from the female staff.

Vasectomy that turned in to infection with other complications. Staff unfriendly always seems bothered by your presence. 6 hours can't get a prescription called in. Unable to get anyone on the phone. When the procedure started Dr did one side next thing I know resident is dinking around for 15 min which I assume caused the other complications ie the doctor finally chimed in and said yeah that's OK you can do 2. My Husband was sent too him through the VA and chose him because he also sees patients in our local area. Upon first visit that he was seen and had a Cystoscope procedure done in office my Husband got an infection from the procedure and the procedure was quite painful and should have not have been if the Dr., would have done steps prior too make it less painful! This Doctor will let you know from the get go that he is precise and too the point and he is that for sure because you do not have the opportunity too ask questions or does he communicate as little as possible with the patient. Very poor communication between Patient & Doctor! We left the office on the first visit knowing no more than when we went in! Second Visit this week after Antibiotics for the Infection from the first visit and Test Procedure at least we got a little more info from the Student Doctor who tried too help as much as possible and The Dr., once more came in and said little too nothing and once more we left without a Diagnosis but at least we did know that the Urine Collection on this Visit was Clear if any infection and The Dr. removed a Med that my Husband was taking through the VA and prescribed him a prescription drug and my Husband told them he would take the Prescription too our Local VA Clinic in our County too have the VA pay for that and Mail that too him and the Doctor showed no interest and the Student Doctor gave the prescription too my Husband the prescription too do that and he did do that. Our Local Pharmacy just called with a prescription ready for pickup with the cost of: over $100.00 for a 60 day supply and the Original Dr. Kim, already went ahead and electronically sent over the prescription instead of doing what the Student Doctor did too help my Husband and plus the Student Doctor even told my Husband the the VA did cover that drug and he is the one who gave the paper prescription too him too take over to the VA Clinic which is just up the road from the Doctors Pilot Office that he comes too on Wednesdays too see patients. Very poor communication between Patient and Doctor in this Facility! The Staff is great otherwise and The Student Doctor was also Great! As of Friday, 21 August 2020 my Husband is still waiting too hear from the office of this Dr. to know the results of my CT Scan/Abd with Contrast Dye done over a month ago and after contacting this Dr by Patient App Messaging more than once! Instead he has gotten a new Appt. Date of Jan 2021!! My Husband will Never be seeing this Doctor ever again and will return back too the Johnson City, TN Mtn. Home VA Urology! How come there has not been a survey from UT on this Dr.,? Usually when you see or visit a UT Facility or Staff you get a Survey?? I wish I would’ve just went too the UT Hospital Physician's Bldg., too use the Urology over there instead of letting VA Choice program send me too a convenient location too see a UT Urology Dr.! I Disagree with all the haters.... He is a very GOOD Doctor.

I was treated professionally and his manners were great . I would recommend Dr Kim to anyone . I went into the er waited 9 plus hours (not complaining) from start to finish with them running lots of test on me.. which im so grateful for. Thank you UT MEDICAL HOSPITAL & UROLOGY!!!

Excellent physician, and very nice guy. He and office staff work efficiently. I appreciated not being asked the same questions by 3 different office staff like some practices do. He explained my condition well and provided me with the current important facts and statistics to think about when considering the different treatment options. Highly recommend.

He did surgery on my 81 year old Father on monday, he was sent home the same day with a catheter, he lives 70 miles from knoxville, on tue morning he pulled his catheter out, we called dr Kim's office immediately, our call was returned wed evening, all this came about just after they had him under someone else's name upon admitting. If a patient family ask him a question, dr kim goes on the defense immediately, when my 81 year old fathers health is concerned, I want to know everything, I could care less what else is going on with "the dr", my father's well being is my most concern, it's hard to believe such a heartless human being could hold such a title. First, a misdiagnosis that had me thinking I had cancer. Then, when I did have cancer, he immediately wanted to do surgery. (Easily cured with radiation) Add in the bedside manner of a ghoul, scheduling errors and a rude staff, there you have it: A well deserved one star

Ok I normally do not leave negative comments unless I am just super dissatisfied. Let me start by saying that we have never been treated so poorly by a Physician as we have by Dr. Edward Kim! My husband had a Lithotripsy on his right kidney for stones and his surgery was supposed to start at 12:20 but ended up not taking him back until 5:20...Ok I get it that sometimes they run behind so other than being frustrated we were ok with that. What really got me mad was after his surgery I was NEVER called or seen Dr. Kim to tell me how the surgery went, what he did, NOTHING! Furthermore when my husband goes back to see him in a couple of days to get the stint removed he has to go the the hospital to get a xray and then take it to Dr. Kim's office! I'm surprised that Dr. Kim didn't ask my husband while laying on the operating table to push the button to break up the stones! I am furious at the lack of compassion from this Dr. The only reason I gave him a 1 star is because 0 star was not available! Always rushed. Does not spend time with patients, pawns off patient care to residents, unfriendly and always more concerned about writing papers than taking care of his patients. Prostate cancer was missed because he did not do a physical exam for 3 years ( let the residents do it, and did not check for himself). Can't get him to answer questions and seems very unconcerned.

He spends almost no time with patient. Doesn’t have time to listen and doesn’t discuss anything with you. Otherwise, the office staff is great!

This one star review is the reflective of Dr. Kim and not the entire University Urology Team as everyone, but him is pleasant. On my first visit with Dr. Kim he struck my wife and I as rude, however our research told us he was the best in the southeast United States for varicocele repair. After the first visit the procedure was scheduled and completed, he stated there would be mild/moderate pain/discomfort for approximately a week, but recovery was quick. This description of the procedure by Dr. Kim matched exactly to the procedure summaries available online. Fast forward 4 days after the surgery, and I was starting to experience the mild/moderate pain in the groin area, this was expected and controlled with medication. On night number 6 I was in extricating pain and was unable to sleep. So thinking something must be wrong I phoned the office to be seen the same day. The staff was able to fit me, Dr. Kim’s resident completed an ultrasound with Dr. Kim observing, Dr. Kim says everything is perfect there isn’t anything wrong with you. I never have varicocele patients return to the office with pain. I explained to him the pain gradually increased starting day 4 post op, and his response was I’m now having to repeat myself, you’re fine. There was more context to the exchange than that however, I’ll be consulting another urologist, something isn’t right or I still wouldn’t be in pain. Trying to go about your day as was if you were just kicked in the groin isn’t pleasant. My wife and I are just trying to have another child and in the process I get talked to as if I’m uneducated and lying. I am so disgusted at how I was talked to and denigrated. Dr. Kim may be a very skilled surgeon, but a little bedside manner goes a long way. Treat others as you want to be treated. I’ve read some the reviews from others. He was very friendly to me and informative. I like him.

He lets residents or someone he is teaching procedures to, perform prostate exams on his patients and does not follow up with him doing the exam. A cancer was missed by him not doing the exam for the past 3 years. He always seems rushed, does not take time with you.

I have had the worst medical experience in my life with Dr. Kim. He violated my trust. Had no respect for me as a person or patient and caused me many months of discomfort.

Very knowledgeable, professional since I have been seeing him my bladder cancer has not come back before Dr Kim my prior Doctor might have spent more time talking with me but the results were not there.

I accompanied my sister to her appointment, first time, referred by her urologist 2 hours away. NO bedside manner. Dr. Kim would hardly look at her, grilled her with questions, and seemed to get frustrated with her when she did not know the answers. He made her feel stupid. I work for an orthopedist so told her that it was just frustration because he needed information that she couldn't give, in order to give her the best treatment. In reality, his lack of care for her feeling was troubling

Hands down the worst Doctor I've ever been to. His staff seems nice enough, but he ignores the patient when in the room and is incredibly rude. The several times I saw him, he brought in a laptop and never even made eye contact with me. Just seemed like he wanted to get out of the room. I don't know if he's going for some too cool facade, but judging by the other reviews on here it's not working.

DO Not GO TO THIS MAN!!!!!!!!! I had to have a kidney removed because of him, He destroyed my kidney, The dr that ended up having to remove my kidney said he didn't see how he is still aloud to be having surgery on anyone,I live in pain every day because of this man not only did he destroy my kidneys he destroyed my daily living, So please, please don't see him, This man should not be doing surgery on anyone cause he doesn't know what he's doing and he doesn't care if he damages your body

Felt comfortable with the doctor and his surgical expertise. Nice man. Did not appreciate a resident assisting in my vasectomy without permission, though. Dr. Kim did one side and the resident did the other. The first snip didn't hurt at all, but the second one was so painful that I almost jumped off the table.

I would not recommend this man to anyone. He literally made jokes with a trainee about my condition while in my exam room.

I would never recommend Dr. Kim to anybody. He didn't listen to me. He didn't seem to care at all about me as a patient. I would highly recommend seeking a different doctor.
