Dr. Edgar Benton Barnard

To the person who was "dismissed as a patient for not following protocol," you are not alone. When this doctor was practicing in Clinton, I was dismissed for not following protocol when I had the nerve to get a mammogram from a mobile unit without asking permission. An irate nurse left me a message to call right back (my mother was dying in another state at the time and I did not call.) The next message was that I was "dismissed for not following protocol." Try another doctor.

My experience with this office INITIALLY was fine! HOWEVER over time I have become so dissatisfied with this doctor and his lead nurse. I’ve been on 100mg Zoloft for almost 3 years- to treat severe PTSD, anxiety and depression. I also suffer from SVT which is a condition that causes the heart rate to elevate drastically (170+) within minutes during panic attacks- stressful situations... for HOURS at a time. It is very scary and most times I have to go to ER when it does happen. Fast forward- dr Barnard was giving me a 90 day supply of my RX Zoloft from March of this year 2020- to current date. When I ran low on this last bottle of Zoloft I inquired! Upon calling the dr office to request a refill Dr Barnards lead nurse or CNA gave me the run around and told me that I HAD to be seen for a 6mo check up before he would refill my RX - mind you this is in the middle of a pandemic- not only that I don’t have a way to drive at the moment. After explaining all of this to his nurse and ASKING TO SPEAK WITH THE DOCTOR HIMSELF she said she would get back to me and NEVER DID. She was very dismissive and made me feel like my condition was insignificant. I called again today and one of his receptionist said he would refill a 30 day supply for me but that he would be dismissing me as a patient since I wouldn’t follow his protocol. This is INSANE! So if I were diabetic and didn’t have a ride to the doctors office, would my RX for insulin not be filled???? I am very very disappointed in this practice. Zoloft is an anxiety/ depression RX. If not taken daily can cause severe withdraws and in my case can cause my heart to have an episode. I would NOT I repeat NOT recommend this office- whatsoever. He only cares about charging to see you and your insurance for that check.

All the poor reviews above are spot on. Never gets back with you, speaks so low you can’t hear him, was in the room with me for 10 minutes and most of that time sitting with his legs crossed looking at his laptop.

This is one place that I will no longer be a patient anymore...ever...i went in for a check up also had blood work done since the month of May 2019 the first to second week on May and this month is June no one never called to give me the results of my test ....its always a delay with them Dr.Barnard and his staff need to do better this is ridiculous i'm looking for a new primary care physician

nice person have been seeing him for about a year and have no complaints. when I was sick I was able to get in right away

I recently had my 6 month follow up/Blood work appointment. Dr. Barnard is always pleasant and professional. He understands my concerns and explains things in a way I can understand. He truly cares about my wellbeing and it makes me sad to see some of the negative reviews.

Terrible communication skills and poor follow up. Actually, zero follow up.

I came to him for assistance in losing weight. As usual, he won't speak louder than a whisper, and you have to ask him to speak up multiple times. He said he was only going to do bloodwork and nothing else. He didn't care about the reason behind the visit - he spent barely 5 minutes in the room. I ask him what about my weight loss the reason I'm here. And he says Oh we're not doing that today. I had to go to someone else to get what I had asked for.

I gave Dr. Barnard three tries as a new primary physician. Each time, rather than giving me even just a minute to talk to him about my symptoms, he started checking my health stats (heart, lungs, etc), instructing me to breathe, poke my tongue out, etc. He didn't listen to me and seemed only interested in doing his "check up" and running labs. If the labs don't show him what is wrong with you, he doesn't care. He never even said, "I am sorry you are not feeling well."

Leaving this doctor, not happy with him regarding his refusal to extend my FMLA dates to see the 3 Specialists to whom he referred me. I've had to cancel my stress test and echocardiogram while I look for a new PCP and start the process all over again. This doctor won't give me the courtesy of speaking to me directly about this matter, instead someone from his office calls on his behalf despite my request to speak to Dr Barnard. I am very disappointed and worried about my health over this.
