Douglas Sidle

Once upon a time, a patient went to a reputable medical institution in Chicago, for a minor aesthetic adjustment of the nose - put some tissue here, lift the tip there - that should last no more than 1.5 hours. Instead, that patient was treated with a forced full reconstruction of the nose, with nasal bones and dorsal lines completely hacked, wood-hard rib pieces inserted along the full septal length, tip ligaments severed, lateral cartilage and crura resected and/or removed, radix erased, columella thinned, de-vascularized and severely traumatized, retreating all the way to the septum, caudal septum hacked, cut off and thrown away like an unneeded body part, voluminous scroll area in the midvault hacked, cut out and thrown away. Alar rims retracted by up to 1cm, nose shortened by about the same length of 1cm. Normal nose thus becomes pinocchio nose. To add to the insult, the doctor took a soldering iron and burns the insides of your nose, causing permanent damage to mucosal glands and cilia, leading to severe dryness, excessive open space inside nasal cavities and, ultimately, "empty nose syndrome" (ENS), respiratory distress and sleep apnea, among other nasty health issues from that doctor's actions. This was how I was treated by the so-called "plastic surgeon" ENT Douglas Matthew Sidle at Northwestern Memorial Hospital a couple years ago. And it was only Sidle who caused me this damage me on the operating table on that day - half of the insult was done by Sidle's ghost surgeon - an AAFPRS fellow. This is how Sidle treated me with a forced 3.5 hour septorhinoplasty procedure that was medically unnecessary, aesthetically damaging and completely premeditated by Sidle and Co. Of course, they billed my insurance tens of thousands dollars for those unnecessary procedures. Sidle himself increased his own payout from the medically unnecessary procedures by about $9k from billing my insurance company his "professional changes" for those medically unnecessary maneuvers. Interestingly, before and right after surgery, Sidle told me that he "didn't need to do much on me", and my "insurance won't be billed much". They billed my insurance more than $50k. Sidle's true qualification in this reality is taking a healthy normal nose and its conversion into a nonfunctional pinocchio nose with respiratory distress. Sidle's true calling in this world should be swiping Chicago alleys, and definitely not treating patients, as obviously Sidle does a lot of intentional harm in the medical field by premeditatively pushing medically unnecessary harmful procedures on his patients. Run!

Sidle is not safe, botched relatively easy surgeries, severily damaged functional part of the organ. Stay away

Sidle misrepresents the realistic outcomes of his "septo-rhinoplasty" procedure. Instead of performing the minimal adjustments requested, Dr. Sidle went overboard and forced the total reconstruction of my nose, completely destroying my natural anatomy, demolishing the nasal breathing function and creating the dreaded pinocchio-style nose and smile. It is now impossible for me to smile in public, as the tip has dropped good 0.5 inch and alar rims and columella retracted a quarter of an inch, all dorsal contours were erased. Also, I can't sleep at night and function during the day time because of chronic dryness and constant tissue pain in my nose traumatized by Sidle. Very devastating and undesired procedures that Sidle has forced on me... One of the saddest things that happened in my life - the loss of ability to smile after Dr? Sidle... Very inhumane...

Dr. Sidle and his team were great every step along the way from first consultation to final check-in to insure everything had healed properly after he helped correct my deviated septum. Dr. Sidle did a great job explaining his diagnosis, how the surgery would be performed, and what the entire process would entail. His PA, Erin, was also very detailed and responsive, providing me with all of the information I needed. And lastly, and most importantly, Dr. Sidle did an excellent job in surgery and the septum was corrected as desired. 2/22/2022 Update Dr. Sidle had done major work on my sinuses 4 years ago. He also addressed extensive cosmetic issues I had at the time. There were some minor cosmetic issues that became noticeable after my nose settled into place ( I waited about 2 years). When I returned for a visit, he was gracious and caring about addressing the issues that were relevant to me and agreed to a 2nd procedure. I appreciated that he didn't give me a hard time, but instead validated my concerns even though they were not major. The 2nd procedure went well, but after a year, I had problems with final aesthetics. I returned to see if it could be addressed/fixed well. The concerns I had after the second procedure have been well addressed by Dr. Sidle, and my nose is now lovely and functional. I would refer anyone to Dr. Sidle. He is an excellent surgeon with artistry. He listens, is caring and understanding. Below are some before and after photos following the second procedure. I don't know where to begin when trying to explain how AMAZING Dr. Sidle is. It started a few years ago when I saw him on TV. He was a special guest on a talk show discussing his Botox techniques. I was impressed, so I called to book an appointment for Botox, Rhinoplasty, chin implant, and neck liposuction. Dr. Sidle and Awesome Erin walked me through the procedures using state of the art technology. I had the procedures. There was little to no pain throughout the entire procedure and post procedure. Thanks to the Dr. and Erin for explaining exactly what I needed to do to assure proper healing and being extra gentle when removing the bandages and dressing. Several weeks after the surgery, I was very impressed with the results of the Botox, chin implant, and neck lipo (I actually now have a defined jawline and projected chin). However, I was not completely satisfied with the Rhinoplasty. It seemed like my nose was now larger and the tip was drooping. I decided to leave it be for a couple years. As time went by, I was still unhappy with the Rhinoplasty. I decided to call and book a possible revision surgery to raise the tip and enhance the contouring. I met with Dr. Sidle and Erin virtually and they noted my concerns. He agreed with my request of a revision surgery and since he guarantees his work, he did it at no charge!! I couldn't believe it! Since Dr. Sidle also has amazing skills at Botox and fillers, I decided to get a round of that as well. Dr. Sidle fixed a seemingly hopeless situation by going above and beyond. Despite the fact that many of the problems from my previous rhinoplasty (with a different doctor) weren’t even addressed in the operation notes, Dr. Sidle took it in stride and fixed everything internally and externally. My nose now looks better than I could have ever hoped and even better than the pictures of the projected end result I was given during my consultation. Simply put, Dr. Sidle is an excellent surgeon. He takes the time to listen to your concerns and answers your questions. He has an amazing Physician Assistant Erin Hoke who helps make your procedure or surgery smooth and seamless and goes out of her way to make you comfortable and answer all your questions. I just feel Dr. Sidle, MD is an excellent, kind, fun (needed at times that are difficult), and very professional doctor. Erin his PA is excellent too!! I'm sharing the same review I posted on Real Self :) My forehead reduction surgery with Dr. Sidle was on 11/12/19, and I cannot recommend him enough. I had spent nearly *six years* researching doctors -- I'd flown to Beverly Hills, interviewed docs from coast to coast, and I finally felt the comfort and confidence I needed with this particular surgeon. Nothing I saw compared to his intelligence, his bedside manner (which is so important, and he gets a 10-star rating there), his genuine interest in the reasonings behind wanting the surgery, etc. Dr. Sidle provided valuable guidance and recommendations on how much to lower my forehead during the operation, we mapped it out, he took all my own questions/concerns into consideration while injecting his own opinions on what he knew would look the best for my face. For folks who want this surgery, typically this is a pretty disheartening, self-conscious battle that affects you day in and day out. It was something I thought about *every* day, and it always made me unhappy. I can confidently say on the other side of this procedure that I am *beyond* happy I did it. I had surgery by Dr. Sidle this past June. I had septoplasty, turbinate reduction, nasal valve obstruction correction, cosmetic rhinoplasty and a chin implant. I could not say enough good things about Dr. Sidle and his staff. He is completely professional yet extremely personable, friendly and easy to talk with. I liked him from my first visit, which was a consultation for my breathing issues. He never mentioned any cosmetic changes until I came back for a follow-up that included a cosmetic consultation after I decided to view some of his before and after pictures online. I was so impressed with how natural and well done his work was that I decided to go ahead with cosmetic rhinoplasty as well. I had the hairline lowering procedure 8 months ago with Dr. Sidle. I would not have gone through with the surgery had it not been for Dr. Sidle’s experience and expertise in the procedure. He answered my long list of questions with no hesitation. I loved how he wanted to know what I wanted and what I thought so that I am happy at the end of this but made his own recommendations and explained the reasons for those recommendations (things I didn’t know were important even with all of my research). Dr. Sidle is an incredible surgeon! I have had 4 previous surgeries on my nose, all performed by the same bad doctor. My nose was botched beyond belief! After 5 years of poor breathing through a crooked nose, I finally found Dr. Sidle. He preformed my 5th and final revisional surgery and my nose looks incredible because of him. Dr. Sidle is fantastic! I consulted with him about a septal repair and nose job. He answered all my questions with detail and gave me a sensible expectation for a beautiful and functional nose. He and Erin kept in touch daily after my surgery...I didn't feel like just another patient. I'm ecstatic about the outcome. ..even with some slight swelling left (typical until fully healed), I'm already breathing 100% and have received many compliments on my new nose! Spent over a year correcting his skin cancer reconstruction work. Required 3 surgeries so far out of state to correct. Do Not Recommend.

Dr. Sidle and his assistant Erin were amazing. I couldn't have had a better experience with them. He was sure to spend enough time with me to answer all of my questions and make sure I was comfortable with everything. I would highly recommend him.

1.0 star rating 5/23/2016 If you are looking for a doctor who cares more about his income than his statement, then this is the doctor for you. He made erroneous notes in his chart which led my insurance to reject the pre-authorization for my surgery. I dealt with nothing but incompetence with his staff. He refused to talk to me on the phone, insisting that I come in to see him to talk. It's all about the billing, and not about the patients. There are much better docs out there.

Dr. Sidle is amazing - hands down the best plastic surgeon in Chicago!! It?s obvious from the moment you meet him that he takes pride in his work and really enjoys what he does. My time with him never felt rushed ? he took time to answer all of my many questions and explained the pros and cons of everything in a way that was easy to understand. Most importantly, Dr. Sidle is a perfectionist ? always a good quality to look for when choosing a plastic surgeon!!

Dr. Sidle performed a septoplasty, turbinate reduction and a rhinoplasty surgery on me. It's been three months since my surgery and I am very satisfied with the results. Dr. Sidle and staff were professional answering all of my questions and I never felt rushed during any of my appointments. The day of the surgery Dr. Sidle sat with me to go over the entire procedure one last time to ensure we were on the same page with my expectations.
