Dr. Douglas Elenz

Dr. Elenz is an outstanding orthopedic surgeon that fixed my left bicep tendon tear (at the elbow). Even though 60 years old at the time, I decided to have the surgery so that I could maintain an active outdoor life. I am 2 years post surgery, and my bicep is actually stronger than before and with full rotation. The care I have received from Dr. Elenz has been top-tier. He is up to date on the latest treatments and techniques (had the titanium button installed) and has always gone above and beyond to ensure I got the best care possible. I meant to add a glowing review 6 months out, but this 2-year post surgical review covers the entire process through 100% recovery. I am thrilled with my results.

I had an incredibly frustrating experience. Dr. Elenz told me that I had a torn meniscus, needed surgery and that I would be able to return to running in several months. I had an MRI and the surgery, and he said that everything went well and there were no issues. He repeated the timing to return to running. My knee was not improving so after a few months of PT, he looked at me and said "You have no cartilage in your knee and you'll never run again." Why didn't he tell me that after the MRI or after surgery? He said it went well and everything looked good. My knee pain continued, so he recommended expensive gel injections - one each week for 3 weeks in a row (not covered by insurance). For my last one, I went to his office for the injection, waited over 30 minutes, was called to the back, only to be told that Dr. Elenz was too busy to do it. He couldn't even come out and tell me - he had his nurse do that. I drove 30 minutes each way, waited over 45 minutes, only to be turned away. I am a busy professional, also, and had already rearranged my schedule to make sure the injections were on schedule. The injections did not help, so he prescribed a $750 knee brace, which I bought (also not covered by insurance). My knee continued to hurt so I went to another board-certified orthopedic surgeon who did another MRI. He said that I have plenty of cartilage and showed me on the MRI. He also said that the expensive knee brace was likely making my knee worse. And he said there's little evidence that the gel injections work, so he does not prescribe them. What a nightmare. Doc.Elenz and his team treated me twice 1999 then again in 2010 both times for torn Achilles tendons. I would highly recommend Austin sports medicine. Best decision I've made both times. Thanks Doctor Elenz .

My daughter saw dr Elenz for a sport related knee injury. The appointments over several weeks were always timely, friendly, professional and informative with plan and goal always in place. Dr Elenz and his team are top notch!

I wouldn't use any other dr. I have an ongoing ACL tear/Injury and have seen other drs. But dr. Elenz is the best. He's friendly, helpful and a great dr.

I was treated by Dr Breazeale for torn meniscus in both knees in December, 2017. After arthroscopic surgery, I was immediately able to move around and only had 1 day of discomfort. Fast forward to today, 9 months later, I've completed 3 half marathons (including my second fastest time ever 4 months after surgery) and am now about ready to climb Mt Rainier after many months of training. Throughout the diagnosis, Dr Breazeale was very informative and didn't try to push me one way or the other at any step of the way. He armed me with the information and facts allowing me to easily make the decision I thought was best for me. Today I must say I have zero pain and almost all my flexibility has returned. My recovery would not have been possible without religious dedication to my physical therapy and with that, I cannot thank Samantha Kolock enough at the North location. Dr. Elenz is great, a very personable doctor who truly cares about his patients. He has been our family's orthopedic doctor since he began his practice in Austin. We have referred many friends & he continues to do a great job. ??

Excellent physician! Bed side manner, conservative in treatment when there are any possibilities of avoiding surgery he will do it. When there are no other options I would trust him completely! We've had 4 surgeries in the last two years between my husband & I and we've both had excellent care & excellent follow up! Results we exceptional! He set great expectations. My husband is a pro athlete & wouldn't consider letting anyone but Dr Elenz treat him!

Dr. Elenz and his staff were incredible--he is probably one of the highest ranked specialty surgeons in Texas! Sadly, I tore my pectoral muscle off my humerus while training Martial Arts, and needed surgery. Thankfully, Dr. Elenz was able to surgically repair my tear and get me back to 100%. Further, as a former NCAA athlete, Dr. Elenz could relate to my desire to speed up recovery, and get back to training ASAP. So he conferred regularly with my Physical Therapist to customize a post-op schedule that kept me safe and sound while on the road-to-recovery (re-injury is a big risk). Can't thank you enough Doc!
