Dr Kim uncomfortably kissed me on the cheek after telling me that I'm a candidate for surgery. (I have since read that he was let go from a previous employer for improper conduct towards a female coworker.) I have been left with more pain and health issues post surgery. When my symptoms increased after surgery, I was sent for psychiatric testing instead of to a POTS specialist when I was showing symptoms. His surgery has helped some people, but has also made things worse for others. I recommend ruling out other causes of chronic pain with a rheumatologist before surgery. Had my hEDS been diagnosed before surgery, it would have allowed for a more realistic conversation about risks of surgery (they're different for hEDS patients) and chances of surgery helping.

Dr. Dong Kim is the best doctor! He performed surgery on my sister in 2009. Throughout the years he has ALWAYS been there for her. He continues to show his care for her and her well-being. I know I can contact him and get help. Is compassion is something I rely on. As my sister says, He is a good man.”

There are not enough stars in the world to give to Dr.Kim! He gave me my husband back and saved his life! My husband had a tumor in his pineal gland that was causing seizures, vision disturbances, vision loss, Jacksonian tremors, facial numbness and tingling, loss of right side use of hand/ arm & leg off and on, ice pick extreme headaches, constant pressure in his head, dizziness, and so many other weird symptoms that every other doctor we went to said there was nothing they could do and that it was just stress related ???? and could not possibly be coming from the tumor in the center of his brain in his pineal gland. We even went to Mayo Clinic and they were no help at all. We left feeling totally discouraged and at the end of our rope until we found Dr.Kim. He knew what this type of tumor could do and he was one of very few with the skill set to take out that tumor and cause the least amount of damage possible. Two years later and my husband is fully back to himself! Recovering from a surgery like that does take time, but we would do it all again without hesitation and would trust Dr.Kim 1000 times over. Thank you, thank you! There are not enough stars in the world to give to Dr.Kim! He gave me my husband back and saved his life! I called in for an appointment with Dr. Kim, at the beginning of December because I was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation I in 2019 and my headaches are continuing to get worse along with other symptoms. His assistant Mercedes told me I had to have a New MRI of the Brain with & Without contrast on 3T settings, which I did & spent $500 doing it, then I waited 2 weeks for her or Stephanie (the PA) to call me back, and they never did. I called several more times, only for Mercedes to call me back TODAY (over a month later) to tell me Dr. Kim is NOT accepting new patients at this time, she thought is was funny as she told me in a nice nasty way, I DO NOT believe that is true, I believe because she has done such a horrible job getting me in along with having me the patient jump through hoops getting what she asked for that, she does not want me to see Dr. Kim and let him know what has gone on, I think Mercedes is making decisions for the doctor that she has no right nor the medical knowledge to do. Dr. Kim is going to continue to receive terrible reviews because of his staff. I plan to call the administration over Hermann Memorial hospital to let them know what has transpired. I no longer desire to seek help from Dr. Kim BECAUSE OF his staff, I can't trust that I will receive the proper care. Dr. Kim is a very caring and compassionate doctor. He is the best in specializing in Pineal cysts and did a awesome job with my surgery. However, after my second surgery when I began to have major complications his nursing staff completely disappointed me and let me down. I live 3 hours away and was instructed to drive back there for some tests and then drive 3 hours back only to have his staff call me 2 days later about results and put me on a medication that he was never aware of. There was not even a note made for him to even be informed of anything and I never was able to speak with him about any of it to let him know what had been going on. I was told by his nursing staff that I needed to follow up with my PCP that did not have a clue about my surgery or neurosurgery in general. There are still a lot of things I’ve had to do my own research on to find treatments for the after effects. Awesome doctor, piss poor nursing staff!

He and his team did an amazing job at removing my pineal cyst and giving me my life back. However I only had it for a moment, as due to poor nursing I sustained a brain injury just moments after my surgery. The hospital deny’s it, Kim Denys it everyone Denys it happened. But it did. I never thought this would happen to me but it did, and if it happened to me it can happen to you. I’m 27 in great shape and was a prime candidate for surgery. 10/10 Kim 1/10 his nursing staff

The most careless and dismissive Doctor (Dong Kim) I've ever seen. I had an important surgical appointment with him today. As every patient feels nervous and is wondering to ask some questions like what will happen if I do this surgery? how much is the chance of surgery failure? how long will it take to get recovered? so on and so forth. I was also one of those patients that I had the right to ask him that kinda questions, but he skipped them and straight went to the report he had received. He was such a rude doctor. He didn't have a doctor's attitudes. Good Doctors always care about their patients's feelings, but Dr. Dong Kim is someone who hurts your feelings instead of healing. I was feeling extremely uncomfortable when I was with him. So stay away from this rude Doctor. Careless doctors are dangerous for their patients. Dr. Kim has been my neurosurgeon since February 2001 after Walter Reed surgeons had sent me home to die. I owe my life to him and the skills of doctors and nurses at MHH in 2001 where I spent most of the year. He has been my only neurosurgeon in all these years due to the nature of my brain surgeries but I feel 100% confident in him. There's a reason I was led to him and for that I am forever thankful.

I absolutely LOVE HIM. Him and his staff are so understanding and sweet. He did my vp shunt surgery and when the shunt malfunctioned he got me in ASAP to do a revision even with Coronavirus going on. This man and his staff have given me my life back. They even call and check on me to make sure I'm doing okay. I will never see another doctor for my issue than him. If he were to move to a different area I would drive to him no matter where he goes! The wait time in the office is only minutes! Ms Stephanie is so sweet. When I email them through the portal I get a response or call in minutes! Don't waste your time with anyone else!

This Dr. is very informative and caring. He has helped me manage my pain with a successful surgery that combatted the cause and not just managed symptoms. This is important for long term care. He and his Resident talked me through the entire process allowing for concerns to be aired. His staff is? knowledgeable, trusting and reassuring. He is a teaching Dr. and his Residents are equally professional and helpful.

My experience was amazing and he gave me my life back. Removed a pineal cyst in 2016 which completely resolved my symptoms of 24/7 headache, vision changes, noise/light sensitivities, among countless others. He was compassionate, sat back and listened to everything I had to say. He showed great kindness to my mom and husband throughout the whole process. I would recommend him to anyone, as several health systems here (one of them Mayo) don’t believe prominent pineal cysts cause any issues.

When things go wrong after surgery Dr. Dong Kim dismissed you as a patient and wants nothing to do with you. His office staff is horrible. Will not return phone calls and will not let you speak with Dr. Dong Kim. We all trust our surgeons, especially dealing with the brain, and we really need compassion and support when things don't go right. You will not get this with Dr. Dong Kim nor his staff. He does have great bedside manner, soft spoken, and kisses his female patients on the cheek and assure them that everything will be fine. I'm sure he has helped many patients, but in my case he has totally ruined my life. He performed MVD surgeries on me twice and I am now left with uncontrollable painful involuntary movements spinning, twisting and pulling of facial nerve in my mouth, face and it also travel to my head (NONSTOP for almost 3 years now). I've been to so many doctors, neurologists, neurosurgeons, pain management docs and the list goes on and on. No one knows what the heck happened to me, but all concluded it had to do with the MVD surgeries because I did not have this condition before. I even called Mayo Clinic for the past two years and they turned me down for an appointment. I am now disabled and not able to work. (I had a great managerial job with a very big firm). Dr Dong Kim dismissed me as his patient because he said now that it traveled to my head he has nothing to do with that. He also lied on office notes stating I'm fine and happy with my surgery. Unbelievable! When things go wrong after surgery Dr. Dong Kim dismissed you as a patient and wants nothing to do with you. His office staff is horrible. Dr. Kim boasts of having successful results and patients with no issues during recovery or the years that follow, the reason for these amazing numbers is because he does not listen or document when there are issues. He puts all patients into standard protocol that he uses, regardless of their response to his methods - even as far as to continue to order medication that a patient is allergic to because "thats what my patients use for pain management". Additionally, sending patients home after two days in Neuro ICU, even if they have not yet eaten, walked, or had any neuro function tests completed. Seeing Dr. Kim was by far the greatest regret in my life. It was a terrible experience start to finish! Less than a year post-op I am needing another surgery to complete and correct what he said that he did. You will never see these results in any of his "successful" statistics, but realize that there are many many people with lives destroyed because of this arrogant surgeon. Dr Kim is arrogant and does not listen! Regardless of how terrible the results or how sick you are afterward, he will not listen, change his protocol or adjust any of this successful methods. All treatment received is cookie cutter and not at all devoted to the patient. His office staff is unorganized and rude. It takes over an hour past appointment time to see him. First you see a medical student, then a resident physician, then Dr. Kim comes in like he is the Pope and only stays 5 minutes.

Dr Kim is the most amazing human being and surgeon I have ever met. He is kind, caring, and incredibly intelligent but has a very human demeanor. His skills are impecable , we could not have asked for a better surgeon, staff, and hospital experience a Mischer Neuroscience and Memorial Hermann. We are forever grateful to this team.
