Dr. Donald A. Opila

Opila was the in-house doctor at Gardens of Scottsdale, a senior home, caring for my 90-year-old father for several years. Until 2014. Dad was incapacitated & in skilled-nursing. Living in DC, I visited my dad every three months or so. Opila had been treating a "sore" on Dad's calf for six weeks. It was always "getting better." Arriving for a visit, I saw a painful, open, infected wound. After an immediate visit with Dad's former physician, Dad was at Good Sam's burn & wound center a day later. Within a week, the sore was well on it's way to healing. Opila was banned from ever seeing my father again. Other than Opila, the staff at Gardens were wonderful. Dr Don Opila is the best primary care doctor in Scottsdale, and is staff is awesome. I am 53, so don’t think you have to be 70+ to get his incredible care ...intuitive, experienced and incredibly intelligent . A doctor friend recommended his physician Dr. Opila, the best ever, really.

I would give him a zero if that was possible. I went with my 84 year old mother, who told me she had to wait more than an hour to see him before. So this time she called at 9:40AM to see if he was running late for her 10:00 AM appt. The nurse said that 10:00 was still "the appropriate time to come." Since that was in just 20 minutes, we went ahead and arrived on time. Only to wait, and wait, and wait. He finally saw her at 11:15, and was completely unapologetic, even confrontational, about keeping us waiting over an hour despite our checking before he came. Basically, he treats his patients, which are mostly older like more men, like sheep whose time has no value. I would give him a zero if that was possible. I found Dr. Opila , to be excellent, He takes the time to listen to you and your needs, and cares about you as a person also follows through to make sure that you are taken care of.

He has been my doctor for a long time and I really I am glad that he is my doctor

Dr Opila is amazing. My mom's been hospitalized a lot lately and the nurses say he's a dying breed. He's visited the evening she's been admitted and visits every morning. At rehab he visited her at least once a week. You couldn't ask for a better geriatrician!

Dr. Opila combines a very high IQ with an exceptional bedside manner. Best doctor I ever had (I'm 67). His staff is first-rate as well.

Dr Opila is the best. Not only a good doctor, but friendly and personable and not my way or the highway attitude if you are nervous about certain treatments. Like all doctors worth their salt he is in great demand and it may take time to get in to see him initially, but will be well worth the wait if you are not happy with your present doctor and looking to switch. Excellent geriatric patient doctor. And well suited for the proactive type patient as well. Dr Opila is the best.
