Dr. Dirk Ross Diefendorf

Dr. Diefendorf was the on call physician when I presented to the ER with a broken hip last summer. He was vey upbeat and friendly and really put me at ease in a tense situation, knowing exactly when and how to distract me from the enormous needle coming my way from the ER nurse. He fully explained to me the particulars of my injury and what to expect from surgery and recovery. His superb surgical skills and caring treatment mesh extremely well with my optimistic outlook and amazing healing powers. I followed his instructions to the letter for my recovery and I’m very happy to report that I’m back to 100%.

Entering my fourth month with a left knee replacement. Dr. Diefendorf replaced my right knee 7 years ago and I have been pleased then and pleased now. I am 75 years old, so my feeling seems to be taking a little longer but Dr. Diefendorf ( just saw hi today) was encouraging and direct in what I need to do to reach my goal. Thank you Dr. Diefendorf!

Dr Diefendorf is an Excellent Surgeon! When my daughter tore her left ACL during soccer in 2015, we were referred to Dr Diefendorf by our Primary Doctor. He made us feel comfortable before and after surgery, but at the same time ensured that we understood the importance of post-surgery care, and the Do's and Don't's. Sadly, my daughter had another ACL tear in 2019, this time her right knee. Although she was in Santa Cruz for school, we made sure Dr Diefendorf handled her care and surgery again. I'm happy to say that she just had her last follow up, and she passed with flying colors Thanks to Dr Diefendorf, his team, and the hard work my daughter put in as a result of the guidelines and care of Dr Diefendorf. I first went to Dr. Diefendorf in July with left knee pain after being referred to him by two respected physicians. I also had low back pain that had limited my activity for the last 10 years. Right away, Dr. Diefendorf diagnosed hip mobility issues that were confirmed by X-ray and showed my left hip was bone-on-bone. After several months of trying to manage the pain, I asked him to perform left hip replacement surgery that was completed in Mid-October. My results exceeded my high expectations. Not only am I walking normally without pain, my back and knee pain are also gone. Obviously, I am very grateful to Dr. Diefendorf and the entire team in his office. My advice to any potential patients, make sure you follow his pre-op and post-op instructions to the letter. I was very fortunate to be referred to Dr Diefendorf as my orthopedic surgeon when I broke my wrist. From my first visit with him I felt comfortable and at ease. He totally explained each step in detail and how it was all going to work. He was so patient and has the best bedside manner. His office staff is just as great and efficient especially Sandra. If ever again I need an orthopedic surgeon he would be my first choice. Went to Dr Diefendorf for knee care and had a total of 4 visits, excellent care from the front staff and Dr D including setting up specialty pharmaceuticals and the appointments to actual knee care. Walked out happy. Thanks

And I clearly benefited from his many years of “seeing it all”; especially when he honestly shared that my injury had made his professional top 5 bad injuries list. I cannot thank him enough. But it is Dr. Diefendorf’s bedside manner that I have appreciated as much as his surgical skill. Dr. Diefendorf is the ONLY ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON MY FAMILY WILL GO TO. He has THE BEST bedside manner, so soft spoken and A GREAT SURGEON. The office people are so nice and caring. This doctor REALLY CARES THANK YOU DR. Diefendorf for all you have done for our Family

I’m extremely satisfied with Dr. Diefendorf, I would recommend him to anyone. He’s replaced both of my knees(not at the same time). At first I thought he was being hard on me about my PT, I was wrong I did what he told me to do of course it was painful. Now I have full range of motion in both knees. My 1st surgery at 58 my second at 64. He also did a shoulder re-section years ago. I’ve found him to be a perfectionist & conservative in his approach.

I had to pay $35 as a copay, which they never collected at the visit, They didn't send a single mail nor called me in this regard. Now after an year i see than in my credit report as a collection. I suffered a fracture of my wrist on July 29th 2016. It was surgically repaired on Aug 5th and then a cast for 3 weeks. I can not say enough good things about this doctor. He is a excellent surgeon. Everything went perfectly because of his skill. He has excellent bedside manner and kept me informed on my progress at all times. I was back to work in 8 weeks Thank you so much Dr. Diefendorf

I had a total shoulder replacement last year. Completely satisfied with his personal care and communication. He is an excellent surgeon and would highly recommend him. ??M. Wolf

I had a severe shoulder injury earlier this year. Dr Diefendorf did a rotator cuff repair which feels better every day. I would be happy to recommend him for his experience and expertise.

I had a broken ankle (5 months ago) which required surgery (plate & screws) and I felt I was in very good hands with Dr. D throughout the entire process. He explains thoroughly and answers questions completely. His manner is calm, supportive, compassionate and comforting. He has me back on both feet and I should be able to resume to all my normal activities soon. I recommend him highly.

I went to Dr. D after learning that I had a partial tear to my left ACL. He and his staff made every effort to get me back to living the active lifestyle I am accustomed to living. Through his attention to detail at each appointment, every other month post-op, I was able to slowly build up the strength in my left knee. After 9 months of rigorous physical therapy and supporting strength building exercises, I have been cleared to do whichever outdoor activity I desire!

I came to visit a friend in Burlingame from where I live in Sacramento. During my visit I broke my right femur and was transported (in great pain) to the nearby hospital. My surgery was scheduled for the next day but Dr. Diefendorf stepped up at the end of a very busy day and did my surgery that night. I found great comfort from Dr. Diefendorf's care. He is intelligent, competent, compassionate, and willing to listen patiently to what you have to say. I highly recommend Dr. Diefendorf!

I had total knee replacements done by Dr. Diefendorf, the right knee 3/11/15 and left 1/4/16. In both cases the procedure was clearly explained to me ahead of time and the procedures went very well. I was home after 2 nights in the hospital each time. The followup care at home, therapy, was excellent. My recovery has gone quite well and I'm very pleased with the results of the surgeries Dr. Deifendorf performed to correct knee problems that have been with me for about 48 years.
