Mr. Derek Blair Hess

My surgery was only successful for 8 months. 17,000 dollars for 8 months. I was reccomended by Dr. Howard at Yale New Haven, CT. She reccomended Dr. Hess but he only made it worse. My eyes cross more easily and I'm out 17k.

My daughter has been going to Dr. Hess Sr since she was 2. From day 1 we've had nothing but a wonderful experience! The staff is awesome as well. He may stay booked & is up there in age, but never let that change your judgement. He's good at what he does & I'm sure his son is just as good too. Dr. Hess is an amazing doctor. We’ve been going to him for there years for our son. The one and only problem is the wait. In the three years we’ve been going here, we have NEVER seen him at our set time. He’s usually running an hour to 90 minutes behind.

Terrible! Never even got to see the doctor because I sat in the waiting room for just under 2 hours and then was told 3 people are still ahead of me but yet I was there longing. Finally gave up and rescheduled with the soonest appointment being almost a month away. I think I'll just go see someone else

Was recommended to Dr Derek Hess by St Anthony's ER and was not disappointed at all. It was an impromptu visit and he accommodated me with exceptionally friendly caring and proffesional examination of my injured eye. Nothing was rushed and he took time out to consult another proffesional to set up an urgent appointment for the following day, which I might add, was completed successfully. Absolutely best choice. No complaints with anything. He is the only doctor I've seen be organized in office, friendly helpful employees and the doctor does the best work. When you meet him you feel safe and trust him. He knows what he is doing and my son and I are very thankful for him. Best part my son loves him so going to doctor isn't a fight. My daughter is being treat with him for almost 10 years. She love how he explain everything so her as a child and I as parent understand even if you don't speak English fluency, they find the way. We travel every year from Orlando to St. Pete because she doesn't want anybody else to treat her lol. Amazing staff. Amazing doctor. We recommend 120%. Our daughter has been seeing Dr. Derek Hess since she was a baby. We had a very bad experience with another local doctor and when we asked around, we heard how wonderful Dr. Hess and his father are. We are so glad we listened. He is so very kind and gentle and he listens. Kids love him. Here's the amazing part, he stays busy all day every day (that's not the amazing part), and he remembers things about our family and our child each time and we only see him once a year now. A few years ago, he performed an eye surgery at All Children's on our daughter and it went remarkably well. I can not say enough great things about All Children's AND of course Dr. Hess. Here's a tip, make your appointment well in advance. We like to see him in July or August before school starts so we should probably make our appointment in February. It's worth it. I'm 61 year old women, I've had a lazy eye for 61 years. I had 2 other surgeries in New Jersey. Nothing ever worked, I was giving up till my eve doctor said he knew a Doctor in St. Pete...Dr. Derek Hess. who specialized in lazy eye. I went to a consultation he said he could help me. Two weeks later, (April 24th) he did my surgery. Low and behold my eye is straight. I'm ellated...he was a miracle to me!!! Never been so happy! Thank you Dr. Hess Jackie Boewe

I am an adult with 6th nerve palsy that made my right eye crossed. Dr. Hess performed surgery yesterday, and my eye is straight, and the double vision is gone. I am thrilled.

Fantastic service. Closest pedi ophthalmologist that our insurance would take and still had to travel more than 30 miles but very much worth it. Very friendly and very helpful.
