Dennis Slavin

The Dr. is great, just wish he had an admin staff to match. I was seen by the Dr. twice and received a neck injection, next thing I know I am refused service for having an open worker's comp case on a different part of my body. Their staff made up lies that I repeatedly missed my appoitments and that I refused to provide them with my insurance information.

I am a fairly new patient and I don’t know names yet. Dr Slavon is really kind. I usually see the PA in McAllen. She is awesome. She is very kind and is always upbeat and happy

I've been seeing Dr. Salvin going on 2+ year's. Always busy caring for his patients, yes sometimes I have to wait extra time. However, he ways gives me the same time to express may concerns. He's a great doctor has made my life liveable controlling my serve pain. I hope he will be continue for a long time to come. .

Dr Slavin got my daughter hooked on oxycodone by giving her over 280 pills at 20 mg per month and kept her coming in for unnessary procedures so he could bill the insurance so he kept giving her more medication until she got to the point where she was completely hooked and than he just dropped her without trying to help her over come her addiction my sweet daughter passed from an Opiate overdose . She tryed so hard to fight her addiction but it her addiction was to strong for her to over come . Becareful with this doctor and his staff they blacklist their patients when they complain ! I struggle to find rides to my appointments so when I go I expect to be seen on time. Instead I have to wait in pain 30+ minutes to be seen. If I have to reschedule because I don't want to wait I get penalized for it?. They send me for x-rays. VA has an issue with equipment so I can't make my appointment on time because I don't have results yet. So I reschedule. I get attitude from Dr Slavin's staff because I'm rescheduling. Very Bad medical facility

I called for an injection was told hadn't been there since last April ,when I went this past August. They couldn't even find my x-rays on my appt. The nurse call me back and saying couldnt help me without another appt .When I explained she was wrong how could I trust them .the nurses show lack of knowledge of the patients .how could you not have the records in file. I was told just call for injection appt if pain got to severe ,and they give me the run around. I shall look for another Dr who has competent staff as well. Please find another doctor for pain management. I had nothing but problems with this office, both in Weslaco and McAllen. The staff doesn't know proper office protocols and when you discover something they said was a lie, you are told that they will be educated about that to avoid a future issue happening again. It is NOT a patients job to educate the doctors staff, nor is it fair to expect a patient to suffer for the shortcomings and lack of education from staff. They don't honor the request to schedule procedures. Twice I was supposed to be called to schedule but never heard from them. The office staff is always very rude on the phone, and only slightly less so in person. The "office manager" (doctors wife) was conveniently never available to talk when I wanted to discuss the problems I was having. These are only a few of the problems I had while a patient. I was only a patient for less than 6 months. I was moving out of state so it wasn't worth the hassle of finding a new doctor before the move. You can't access your own medical records without a fee, they have no patient portal to help get access to your file, and you can't request them for your new doctor to expedite things. The doctor has to request them. PA in McAllen was the most condescending, rude, and dismissive woman I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. Find another doctor if you want a competent one. The best pain doctor I have ever seen...

Dr.Slavin,has always help me to relieve my back pain n knees, tailbone pain, with medication n injection. I'm very satisfied!!!!! A very good doctor, I told my sister about him now she's a patient too.????????????????????♥️♥️♥️

He has been a strong strength in part of my pain management. Dr slavin is. Professional, thorough, polite, and respectable of his patients. His nurse practitioner Miss Rosie, is extremely polite and knowledgeable. Putting her patients at us with her calm demeanor.

I've been in excruciating pain for about a month and I was really looking forward to my pain management appointment with Dr. Dennis Slavin @ Rio Grande Pain Team. I've been waiting for my scheduled appt for 2 weeks now. I get a call today from Evelyn who states she has to cancel my appt bc they don't take my insurance. I checked my insurance and Dr. Slavin is in network so I call Evelyn back. She realizes my PCP sent her the wrong info so she sets me up again. A few minutes later she calls and I can tell she doesn't know how to tell me that she has to cx my appt because "we cannot see you according to my manager", and she is very apologetic. She then says that her manager will be calling me, so I ask the name of the person who will be calling me, and she says "Mrs. Slavin". I tell her "I'm sorry you will be hearing me but I know what's going on. She won't let Dr. Slavin see me bc I'm an ex-employee. Mari (Mrs. Slavin) is petty, unethical, and unprofessional. You can tell her I said that. And again, I'm sorry you got caught up in this". I need his services as a patient, I'm not there looking for work. What happened to the Hippocratic oath Dr. Slavin took? What happened to "I will treat the sick to the best of my ability", or "I will remember that I do not treat a fever, chart, or cancerous growth (or an ex-employee), I treat a human being", and last but not least, what about "may I long experience the joy of healing those who SEEK MY HELP" and I need his help but apparenlty, Dr. Slavin's petty, unethical wife, Mari, threw his Hippocratic oath out the window.

Dr. Slavin is a very busy doctor but if you have any concerns he will address them for you and help you in any way that he can he's very caring and understanding of any pain that you might be experiencing he tries his very best to help you get better he's the best doctor that I have ever had and for that I am thankful thank you dr. Excellent doctor great staff. Doctor Slavin has good moral character and a distinct manner in his characterization. All the PA's are excellent and nice and friendly. The staff are all beautiful and great at their job!

Front office good and helpful but,the assistants who check your vitals not welcoming at all. I almost walked out on several occasions because of the very unprofessional and unpleasant assistants. The doctor is good.

Professional Staff, and the PA has excellent patient interaction skills. Dr. Slavin has me pain free for the 1st time in 25 years. I hope that the VA send to see him indefinitely.

Dr Slavin was the "on-call" doctor when I was hospitalized, and entered my hospital room with a despondent attitude, perhaps thinking he didn't have to be nice or caring since I wasn't a regular patient at his office. Fortunately he changed his demeanor as soon as I asked him if I could become his patient at his McAllen office. Once I became an established patient at his office, Dr Slavin's attitude towards me was ALWAYS nice and very caring. I don't think he's a man of many words, but in his own way it was obvious he cared for me as a patient, and taking care of my chronic pain was his main concern. I wish Dr. Slavin's staff would be as caring and professional as he is, especially the heavy-set medical assistant that takes the vital signs, and patients to the exam room. She is rude, condescending, unprofessional, and just plain mean. On several occasions I overheard her criticize my clothes, hair, and the way I walked while I was just a few feet away from her, but the worst was hearing her refer to me as a drug addict when I requested refills of my pain medications. Dr. Slavonic has so changed my life. I am in constant pain and have been for many years. I have had 14 surgeries and pain was a part of my daily life keeping me in bed so much of the day. I am now able to do daily activities that many of us take for granted. He is very Thorough In his work and getting all x rays and MRI. Thing my regular doctors have not been able to do. Dr Slavin has helped my mom immeasurably when no one else could. He definitely is an expert in understanding the origins of pain & what can be done to abate it. Generally however, the office & support staff are lacking in modern technology & training. Office is just not well managed. Example, the office administrator lacks basic email. Patient communication is poor. If you can look past all this & the frustration it caused, & focus instead on helping alleviate the patient’s pain, you’ll succeed. The worst staff! Why does the VA associate with this office. They have no knowledge for billing and now we are subjected to pay a lab bill that we are not responsible for because they failed to get an authorization from triwest. Staff is not helpful! Don’t go to this office!

I have to start by saying that Dr. Slavin is a GREAT doctor. He is a five star doctor. He is pretty straightforward about getting to the root of the problem. I have a herniated disk, fibromyalgia, lupus and arthritis so I have chronic pain and the spinal injections are a Godsend. The staff on the other hand is rude and unprofessional at best and cruel and incompetent at their worst. I don't need hand holding or special treatment, all I ask for is a little compassion (since everyone there is in severe pain) and professionalism (which I expect from a doctor's office that is handling my health and wellbeing. They NEVER answer phone calls for appointments or refills. You should be able to call and speak to a person when trying to make an appointment. Several times they said they would call me for an appointment date for a procedure and they NEVER called then when I would call over and over, I would get attitude and a lie claiming they called and I didn't answer. I sent my brother-in-law to Dr. Slavin and he was thrilled at first but then gave up on him because of his staff. It is a shame because Dr. Slavin is great, but even his own wife is EXTREMELY rude. I haven't given up because his treatments have been the only relief, but I am finding it hard to even see him now. They are now routing me with the physician assistant who is nice but I need to see him sometimes. There is one young lady who answers the phone that is nice and tries to help. She is the exception but I don't know her name. Unfortunately, because of all these issues I am giving the office as a whole one star even though he deserves 5. Dr SLAVIN is a kind, caring man. Always listens and works to do his best to help you live with chronic pain. You won't be disappointed and his nurse practioner is wonderful also.

I’ve been going to Dr.Slavin for about 2 1/2 years. He is a great doctor. Granted, he is extremely by the book and I wouldn’t expect anything less. In the time I’ve been there, I’ve had probably 2 small negative issues with the staff but otherwise they treat you the way you treat them. I personally think they’re very accommodating. I’ve dealt with other pain specialists that were good but not as good, although they were too far to drive. When he took me off my medicine abruptly it caused me seriously bad neurological issues to date . The spinal injections are a scam according to the fda 2014 . He refused to help me and now my life is beyond repair . Be very careful of this dr . He will take you off your meds inproperly and it could cause you brain damage like it did me . Didn’t get a chance to see the Dr. his office staff in McAllen , are very unprofesional . I was referred to them by the VA , and was told they didn’t have my authorization on file . Because the original file was discarded . I wasn’t told any of that when I spoke to them before my appointment . According to my old man, the doctor is ok. Treats him well and does his job. The problem is that every time we come we're here for about 3 hours. Got an appointment at 2? You'll be out at 5, almost always! It's ridiculous. Not the worst place, but very far from the best.

The office staff needs a leader that has a VERY STRONG in organizing all the office personal. The Dr. is straight to the point and no chat time but that's alright. The problem is the front office staff. I had a appointment for 4-5-18 @ 2:45pm for a back injection and when I arrived no one waiting, I told the person at the window & show her the appt paper & she told me they called me to cancel the appt & left a messaged. I told no one called and with the technology with phones I can prove it.

Office staff is the most incompetent collection of humans I've ever encountered in a professional business. Their mishandling of something as simple as setting up an MRI at another location seemed almost deliberate. You're lucky if you can get them to answer the phone, I've just given up and just drove to the office. If you do manage to leave a message they never, and I mean never, return your call. There aren't enough chairs to accommodate the scheduling overlap.

Wait time is way to long. The doctor does little to help you with your problems and will always give you a hard time with your prescriptions.

Bedside manner is very good considering his office is jammed.Hope that tells you he has no time for chit chat and Oh Yeah office is packed for a reason. Get it yet? Eliminated chronic knee, back and shoulder pain. I am considering trying another doctor who loves to talk about how great he is and he also has no waiting time.

Yes schedule your appointment early in the morning this will stop the long Waits and afternoon. Dr slavin has a decent bedside manner yes some of his employees have bad days as we do I guess there's no excuse but life is life and this is the valley tough to get good help at times. I mention his employee problems at one time he's very receptive and appreciative that I told him about it.

His staff is the worst he cut me down on my medication right off the bat i gave him the benifit of ththe. Doubt. He did the radio frequency treatment didnt help at all then the staff kept messing up my scripts totally unprofessional a waste of effort and time

I ahve been seeing Dr. Slavin for arthritis and bursitis. What a great doctor. He has helped me so very much with the pain. He always knows exactly where to put the shots and little pain. I have had cortisone shots with other doctors and it hurts almost as much a the medical problems. I would recommend him to everyone.

Small packed lobby with only enough chairs for about 1/2 patients. Everyone else was either having to stand or sit on the floor. Instaff were sighing loudly and had body language like everyone that they were having to help was bothering them. Dr. Slavin was completely unprofessional every time I was there. He has the worst bedside manner that I have ever seen. I do not recommend Dr.. Slavin for anything. So I hope that you take the opportunity to find a doctor that is caring and compassionate.

Dr Slavin has given his responsibility to office manager. A. Not only does this reduce his patient responsibility but office manger (non-medical personnel) determines if, When, and what is important to share and provide with the doctor. B. Office staff's rudeness, poor communication skills, schedule errors, is unjustifiabe/Unexcusable Especially when it concerns the patients safety, secure, inadequate medical treatment. C. Average jam-packed appointment is 4 hours in pain.

My experience with Dr Slavin was very good in the beginning he really does violate your privacy. The staff is the worst staff at a Drs office that I have ever encountered they are unprofessional,inconsiderate,soulless and it is upsetting because you complain about them and nothing is done about it. I have been humiliated at this Drs office so many times I lost count. This Dr doesn't listen to you at all. I feel that it's his way or the highway I see things in this manner there is a god who watches everything we do and he will eventually bring him to his knees along with his staff. He could be the best the Dr in the RGV if he could be more understanding to peoples problems and needs, because when you have a patient who has to self medicate because they have no insurance and then you hold it against them is not right. He goes on vacation and leaves you without your pain medication and you drink pain medication that was prescribed to you by your surgeon and the drug screen is failed he will hold it against you. I would also understand if he found illegal drugs in your system then it is totally understood and when you watch his whole staff rejoicing over your misfortune is a terrible thing to watch.. The first two initial appointments were canceled by them and made contact on the 3rd attempt and met the doctor and scheduled a pain shot injection for my neck for 10 days later. On the day before the scheduled injection date, I was contacted by his staff and told they needed to reschedule as my procedure had not been approved by insurance. I asked when they submitted it to insurance for approval and was told it was submitted 1 hr before they called me. I didn't reschedule & will go elsewhere

Several visits with no problems, but not much long term results. I gave up when I had to stand in the lobby for over an hour........which did my back and knee no good. When I arrived I could see the corral was full and I mentioned to the hostess........that I had to be somewhere else in a couple of hours. No response. Poor front desk. I will not go back.
