I do NOT recommend Dr Welechel. Office staff is so rude. If you leave a message it takes multiple attempts and several days to get a response. For a referral for a specialist, they are provided with incorrect insurance information and wrong phone numbers so I have to go back and forth with them to get everything corrected and set up. Dr Whelchel has been my Doctor for over 10 years. I've never once had a bad experience with her. She's always thorough and very caring about my well being.

The bad review is for lack of communication. After turning in the new patient forms, I was told someone would call me after lunch. I had to call back the next day to schedule. The lady on the phone clearly stated the time of 10:40. I arrived and waited in the front. The lights were off where the receptionist sits. I thought they were closed. After waiting 10 mins, someone finally came out. Then they tell me I am late and can not have me as a patient. My appointment was told to me for 10:40, and she did not come out till 10:42. She explains that being late on the first visit results in not being able to be a patient. Yet no one calls me back on time and no one up front to greet people on time. Terrible policy! Dr. Whelchel was awesome throughout the 5+ years we saw her. But she has a rule saying if you miss a total of 3 appointments, EVER, you get dropped. With as many health problems as we have that she knows about, we missed 2 times over that many years. We had even talked to her about it and she told us that she understood, and that if we missed too many times and the automated system kicked us out, to just talk to her and she'll override it. Well, we had to get a COVID shot the same day as an appointment so called in to reschedule. Her office did so, only to then send a letter saying we missed what they claimed to have rescheduled and were dropped because of it. After sending letters and calling the office multiple times, it's clear that the decision is standing. We missed 2 appointments over 5+ years. Her office messed up and marked us as missing a third time, and that's enough to drop us without a second thought. It's ridiculous to dedicate your life to a career of helping people only to toss them aside like yesterday's garbage for things they can't help. I went to Dr. Whelchel for years, and she was always nice, understanding, and listened to me. It's rare to find a doctor who checks all those boxes. Her staff are terrible though. There seems to be no communication between her and them, with countless instances where I'd send something she requested and she wouldn't even know about it until I told her during our next appointment. Also, the computer system she uses has a 3 strike rule, where if you miss 3 times for any reason it drops you as a patient. I have been in poor health for years after fighting through cancer and sometimes I can't get out of bed. She knows this and said if I ever miss 3 times, to just let her know and she'll override it. I missed twice because I was terribly sick and rescheduled an appointment because I was getting my COVID vaccine. Her staff counted it as a miss and dropped me. I can't get past them to talk to her, so I've been without for weeks as I try to find another doctor. She needs different staff.

Dr Whelchel has been my family Doctor since 2003, when we moved to this area. she takes care of my mom, sister and myself. she attended my husband for about 7 years until he Passed away. if she thinks we need to see a specialist she helps us pick them and stays in the loop. we love her

I love Dr Whelchell. She is caring and truly listens to what's going on with me.

She’s been my doctor since she opened her practice (probably 25 years ago). She doesn’t accept my insurance so I pay out of my pocket to see her. I will do what I need to in order to continue seeing her.

We just started with her. She was very attentive and understanding in the needs of my wife and I. She didn't just walk in and introduce herself and say yeah yeah yeah and and be done with you and then charge your insurance for a billion dollars like other doctors I have dealt with. Doctor Whelchel is has a great chairside manner. However, her front office staff is extremely hard to communicate with. Example: dropped off a urine sample and NEVER received a call or communication. Went to pharmacy to pick up Rx from another doctor and had an antibiotic waiting for pick up from three weeks prior. Which translates, my 89 yo father had a uti and was untreated for 3 weeks!

Either the front office staff does not communicate patient interaction with the doctor or she is different in dealing with patients when they are not in her exam room. Never is there a time when the need has arisen for an emergency appointment that my dad has actually been able to see or talk with doctor. Her staff is snippy and refuses to communicate with him about any questions he has nor do they convey his messages to the doctor.

Dr. Whelchel is absolutely amazing. She was kind, patient, professional, and extremely knowledgeable during my visit. Completely and totally worth the wait for an appointment.

Dr. Whelchel is WONDERFUL! She gives you her full attention and makes you feel comfortable. You should make a morning appointment though because she gets behind later in the day and you have to wait and wait.
