My husband was transferred to the Presbyterian Hospital in Denton, TX with carotid bleeding and we were referred to Dr. Suominen. He told us he was going to do carotid stenting and convinced us that he does it often and that he is good at it. An hour into the procedure I was notified that he gave my husband a stroke by dislodging a clot into his brain. After the procedure he even offered at clot busting medication which could’ve finally killed him according to several doctors I had talked to afterwords. If having a stroke was not enough, we found out from our insurance company that they denied our claim, refused to pay for the procedure because Dr. Suominen didn’t use distal embolic protection that is used to stop clots from dislodging. In thletter we were told that the procedure without embolic protection that Dr. Suominen performed was experimental, unproven and investigational. What kind of doctor take chances like that? What kind of doctor gambles with his patient’s life by not using a devise that can prevent such tragedy? He is cocky, incompetent and mediocre doctor that shouldn’t even be allowed near people. I see his face in my nightmares every day, I keep reliving that day and punishing myself for not insisting on moving my husband to a bigger hospital, let more prominent and talented radiologists perform such serious procedure. I pray every day that Karma visits Dr. Suominen and ruins his life just like he did ours.

Dr. D. Suominen is the worst radiologist you can find. How he is still employed is beyond me and everyone I know. He comes across as sweet, soft spoken and caring. But that’s not enough to save lives. He can perform the simplest procedures, but anything complicated, he ruins lives. He couldn’t provide carotid stenting for my brother and gave him a stroke at Presbyterian Denton Hospital. My sister-in-law is crushed, his friends and family are heartbroken. My brother is the smartest guy I’ve even known, I used to call him a walking computer, we all looked up to him. Smart, educated, tall, handsome, successful, we, his brothers, all wanted to be him. And this guy, this so-called doctor, took him away from us. Yet, he went on with his life like nothing happened. What right does he have to continue his practice? How can he be trusted with lives? He shouldn’t be allowed even to treat pets, much less people.

I unexpectedly needed to have a drain tube. I was pretty nervous, but the Dr. was so calming and reassuring. He let me know that if I feel anything just let him know and I would get more lidocaine. There’s was no issue with the tube, I never felt anything. He chatted with me a little through the procedure, just so I wouldn’t focus on the tube being inserted. I would strongly recommend Dr. Suominem for any radiological procedure, there really is no one better to calm your nerves and make you feel comfortable.

Dr. Suominen performed my bone marrow biopsy. I really liked that he took the time to explain every step of the procedure to me before, during, and after. He has a very calming demeanor. I would recommend him to anyone that has to have a biopsy. It is a very scary time in a persons life, and he made it a pleasant experience.

Dr. Souminen is exceptional! I had a routine mammo, Dr. Souminen saw something suspicious. A repeat mammo & breast sono showed microcalcifications, I needed a biopsy. I was never so frightened! However, Dr. Souminen explained to me what he saw & calmed my fears. When the results came back positive for breast cancer, Dr. Souminen was the one who called me with results. I heard regret, sadness in his voice as he explained what I had to do next. Caring & dedicated physician, treated me like family

Be very afraid. Dr. Suominen was supposed to do carotid stenting on my husband. When I asked my sweet husband if we should insist on going to a bigger hospital, Dr. Suominen convinced us that he had done carotid stentings and that he is good at it. My husband said “let’s do it here he seems confident enough” and signed a consent. I play that moment in my head day in and day out and torture myself why I didn’t listen to my gut, why went along with it. During carotid stenting, Dr. Suominen dislodged a clot into my husband’s brain causing a stroke! He failed to use the standard protective measure which would have been simple to apply and which would have greatly reduced the risk of a stroke. What Dr. Suominen did was pure negligence as he failed to take basic steps to prevent a tragic outcome. We were never told he wasn’t going to use a filter, we we never given a chance to decide, it wasn’t in the consent form either. A real doctor would’ve known his and hospital’s limitations, a real doctor would’ve transported a patient to a bigger hospital with the neurology and stroke departments standing by should something happen, a real doctor would’ve thought about his patient and not a paycheck. He knew small town hospital had no resources, yet decided to stent without protection anyway, and quietly at that. My smart educated husband, whose brain used to be like a computer, had become a shell of him real self. Our finances are crushed, his company is suffering as he was one of the best at his job, his clients are suffering, his siblings are heart broken, I am grieving and don’t want to live any more, I feel such guilt I can’t breathe. Had I insisted on moving him to the biggest Dallas hospital, my wonderful sweet husband would’ve been saved. That’s what one incompetent cocky doctor can do to so many lives.

Never again would I have this guy touch me. Reference 12/1/2017 ct cervical spinal myelogram. The pain was excruciating. My husband witnessed this. On a scale of 1 - 10 it was a 20. I have experienced pain in my body(natural childbirth), neck surgery, car accidents. BUT nothing like this. The doctor NEVER talked to us, NEVER a word was uttered to us, before or after. No. Deading the area did not help. Something should have alarmed him to stop the procedure, reconsidering what was going on.
