Dr. David Allen Smith

My father was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. My family all felt like Dr. Smith left him to die. Calls were rarely returned. It was nearly impossible to contact him directly. When he would make an appearance, questions were not answered, and he always seemed hesitant to look at any alternative to keep him around longer even though that was what my father repeatedly asked for. He only seemed attentive after we decided to seek a second opinion, and actually tried to talk us out of it. Very sad

Walking into Compass Oncology for the first time since my wife Passed away as a patient there in 2008 was a bit surreal . He was empathetic, provided some good options, challenged me to challenge my own thinking created enough space to allow myself and family to make our own decisions and provide good counsel. He is definitely a doctor who makes you feel comfortable along with a good smile and laughter in what could be a dire situation certainly made me feel comfortable.

Knowledge base is exceptional, feeling connected took awhile but his concern that my cancer be treated optimally was always fundamentally present

Dr. Smith does not return patient or family member phone calls. This is unacceptable, especially as appointments are hard to come by. When someone's life is on the line, a physician needs to be able to communicate with a patient and his family. When we asked for statistics regarding patient outcomes and survivorship, Dr. Smith replied I GUESS I could dig up some statistics. Poor bedside manner, all around bad experience. He is in accessible, harsh and does not leave any room for hope.
