About Dr. David Z. Ritvo
Reviews for Dr. David Z. Ritvo
I went Dr. Ritvo when I was 8 which 20 years ago. I could honestly say he was one the best doctors I've dealt with. He connected with mw on such a personable level. I'll never forget that. I am extremely grateful for Dr. Ritvo, he truly is a gifted understanding doctor.
I was sent to "Doctor" Ritvo because of anxiety as a result of my inability to control insomnia (which later proved to be the result of excessive screen time at night). During my first visit, I mentioned my antipathy toward money, and he immediately became suspicious. When dealing with my parents (who handled the finances), he could not disguise his contempt toward me (and my status as a psychiatric patient); my father later referred to him euphemistically as a "businessman". Before I saw Ritvo, I was a private pilot with 60 hours of flight time and 6 solo flights. As a result of his diagnosis of bipolar disorder, approved by other psychiatrists, I am disqualified from civil and military aviation; my only flight time 10 years after the diagnosis involves model airplanes and simulators (although the simulated F-15s and F-16s I fly now are more complex than the real-life Pipers I flew as a college freshman; the shrinks referred to my childhood dream of flying airliners as a "delusion of grandeur", despite my demonstrated ability flying real-life single-engine craft and simulated multi-engine planes; it was only a "delusion" because they themselves revoked my legal ability to fly by giving me a disqualifying diagnosis). Stay away from mental health professionals (especially psychiatrists, i.e., pill-prescribers; talk-therapists (psychologists/psychotherapists) provide better insight into issues and generally do not encourage the consumption of addictive psychiatric drugs) whenever possible, especially Ritvo, unless you want to lose your reputation (most people do not want to be associated with a known lunatic), career (psychiatric diagnoses (including Asperger's, ADHD depression, bipolar disorder, and any of the "psychotic" disorders prefixed by "schizo"; the latter two can often be remedied by consuming more vegetables and other plant-based foods, less meat, and small-to-moderate amounts of alcohol, a depressant which is especially beneficial for mitigating paranoia; depression can be mitigated by physical exercise and time outside) are nearly always disqualifiers for military service, as well as a host of civilian positions) and bank account.
Dr. Ritvo took on a very difficult case of my daughter who was diagnosed at age 5 with Tourette Syndrome. Such a young diagnosis is unusual and we were turned away from a number of doctors who didn't feel they could manage medicine for someone so young. We did, in fact, try school without meds for some time, but it became progressively worse. We found Dr. Ritvo when my daughter was 7 and he was a godsend. He did a lot of research and through a bit of trial and error fairly quickly came up with a safe and winning combination of meds. He continued to see my daughter through high school and she loved him. He was always kind and supportive, always had the most recent research to adjust medication as needed, and offered great, intelligent, sound advice.
Dr David Ritvo told me not to bother getting my daughter prepared for college because she would never graduate. He also didn't warn her that a medication he was putting her on might reduce her white blood cell count. She became very ill. He was a horrible doctor. Arrogant and useless in getting the family to a better place. DO NOT WASTE your money. Regardless my daughter did gratuade with a Phd and an MD NO thanks to DR Ritvo!

This is an excellent doctor. My child really likes his time with Dr. Ritvo and seems to get a lot out of it. Dr. Ritvo takes his time in explaining medications and their side effects. He involves the patient and parent in the decision on medication.
