Reviews for Dr. David A Marks
My husband was a patient of Dr Marks and he loved him. His past visit the office staff scheduled him with the NP/PA (not sure what their title is) without informing my husband who he was seeing. He thought he was seeing Dr. Marks. When he got there the lady didn’t even see him for 5 minutes. Didn’t listen to his concerns. Said she couldn’t do anything for him without his surgical notes from his thoracic doc. LAUGHED at my husband when he asked a question about his symptoms. She did absolutely nothing and sent him away. This was after at least a year of not being able to get ahold of the office. Phone would ring and no one would answer. He would leave messages and not get a call back. So that last visit did it for him. He was done. He loved Dr Marks but everything else about the office was horrible. Front office lady who said she was also the office manager was rude and not helpful at all. We requested to put in a complaint to Dr Marks and never received a call back about it from him or the office staff. My husband thankfully found another pulmonologist that saw him a couple of weeks later and (without the surgery paperwork) he actually listened to my husband’s complaints and history. He expressed his concerns, ordered tests, and is actually helping my husband. Even this doc said that Dr Marks is just too busy and taking on too much at this point when we informed him of our issues with the office. Sad that such a great doc is standing behind such horrible office staff. At one point my husband even told Dr Marks that he could never get through to the office and Dr Marks agreed things have been busy so he gave him his cell phone number to reach him. Really disappointed.
Dr. Marks is an excellent doctor! I've been going to him for 4 years and wouldn't go anywhere else.
Very caring doctor. I highly recommend him!
I ,myself a physician, discovered Dr Marks when it appeared no other Pulmonologist or cardiologist in San Antonio, Texas could assess the degree of impairment of my recent pulmonary embolisms. Dr Marks quickly and confidently dove in to help me. And he did. The other specialists didn't know the latest medical protocols of my serious condition and simply strung me out -- and I am a fellow physician! Not Dr Marks. He immediately went head to toe, gathering every medical record. In very short, he returned my vital and active life. I would never trust any other doctor of his vast specialty.....ever. This is the best doctor in San Antonio, Myself, a retired doctor, couldn't find any physicians to workup and diagnose my lung problems. As a physician I found this unbelievable. A colleague told me I should see Dr Marks. Dr Marks spent more time with me than any doctor I've known. He tediously went over tests that had been done by other doctors and found some mistakes they made. He quickly tested me and did a heart/lung catheterization on me. Turns out, I have a very serious lung problem that no other doctor recognized. His intercession, formal medical logic and clinical prowess came to bear. He saved me and got my life back on track. It was also appreciated that he is serving our country as an Active Reserve Flight Surgeon -- only adding to his heavy schedule but believing in service before self. If you have a lung problem, or trouble breathing, look no further! He easily earns 5 stars.

Received a bill in the mail from 1.5 years ago. Apparently there is a new payment company and they said the last one did not keep track of their records at all. I told them I already paid this bill over a year ago. And The person on the phone from the new payment company said they are really not even sure if I did or not but there charging me anyway because the last lady didn’t keep good records. Very disappointing experience. Tried to tell him my problem was a lung infection (most likely pseudomonas) but didn't seem to care or want to get to the bottom of it. Claimed I didn't have one and it was probably anxiety etc. (the typical nonsense you get from bad doctors). So, 6 weeks of more suffering then hospitalized in the ICU (by an actual competent doctor!) for...wait...for it.....pseudomonas infection and nearly died from respitatory failure (mucus plugs in lungs from the infection). I will never forgive Dr David and his incompetence. No effort to diagnose or admit that we needed to investigate more. Sadly, this was the 6th pulm doctor that dropped the ball until finally diagnosed at UCLA. Useless. Very disappointing experience. A recent visit for a breathing test as well as a follow up with Dr. Marks deserves a 5 star review. The staff was professional and detail oriented. The lady who administered my breathing test was excellent at explaining the process and helped me feel comfortable while it was taking place. My follow up with Dr. Marks was my first Tele - Med experience and it was smooth as can be. More importantly he took the time to learn about my symptoms, provided explanations in understandable terms and we have developed some additional testing plans. In my opinion based on several years getting treatment from Dr. Marks and his P.A. Mrs. Sanchez you won't find anyone better. My lungs have an 80% improvement and they have gotten the RLS I was experiencing controlled. The office staff are very friendly and professional and kiosk check in makes it simple and quick. I have used telehealth instead of office visits due to my distance from their office and founf it was very simple and the visit was through and informational. They filled all of my scripts that they handle for me and they stay on top of the issues. The best medical help is right in San Antonio Tx and the one hour drive for me one way is so worth it, plus now I use telehealth. Can it get any better than this office....NO...gr8 medical healthcare from a concerned and intelligent medical office.
Tested positive for covid in Aug and have shortness of breath and chest pain 4 months later from it. PCP referred me to this place and first it took a month to get an appointment. Finally got in to take a breathing test and was supposed to get results a week later. Was scheduled for a televisit and waited an hr on the phone for a visit and he never showed up. Called the office and it was he had an emergency. But noone could tell me that. Then rescheduled for an office visit on Nov 12. Got a call the day before saying he won't be there in the morning because he has guard duty and to call back for afternoon televisit. Called and noone answered nor called back when I left a message. I called today to get my results now saying we can get you in Dec 1st. This is totally ridiculous and unacceptable. If you want a Dr to see you when you are suffering from after affects of covid, please look elsewhere or you will die waiting to be seen. I wouldn't have selected this dr if it wasn't for my PCP.
Snotty Office Manager. When I checked in for my first visit I submitted all of my new patient forms and was informed that due to my coverage I would not have any co-pay. Later, in the exam room, the office manager "stormed" in and said she needed my credit card number to put on file. I said I should not owe anything and that I would not leave my credit card on file--because it would not be properly secured. She was snotty and said I would have to charge, in advance, the fee to cover the cost of the sleep machine and $208 for the visit. I returned the machine 4 days later & received a check for the FULL amount of the charge. Weeks later I received another check for the visit--BUT it was $8 short. I took the check back to the office & questioned her about the $208 charge & the $200 check. She said they had a policy of 4% cash discount. This was all new news to me. What they really mean is they have a 4% credit card transaction fee. ALL without notifying you in advance. I believe this is illegal. BTW-I still have not received my $208. I did send certified letters to the Office Mgr & Dr. Marks--that was a month ago. Still no check. Snotty Office Manager. Dr. Marks is an exceptionally compassionate physician with impeccable bedside manner. Under his treatment plan I have become healthy again on several occasions because of him. Highly recommended pulmonologist! The staff is very facilitating of your needs.
I have been a patient of Dr Marks for several years and have never experienced rudeness from his office staff or affiliated Doctors. They have always been nice, concerned about my health and provides the medical support u need.
We were very offended by “Lisa” at the very beginning of the visit. Extremely rude and offensive! Walked out as a result!
Horrible! I couldn’t even get in to see the doctor. The ofc manager said I was rude and cancelled my appointments. Didn’t even have the class to call me, instead she called my GP. The ofc staff is very unprofessional, childish, and down right rude!

I just read some of the reviews here regarding Dr. Marks. I have experienced none of these concerns in my over 3 years as a patient. I love that he is upfront, honest, caring and knowledgeable. If your going to leave a complaint, please follow some rules. First learn how to spell. Second, unless your immobilized, your not getting out of jury duty. It’s your civic duty to attend and the court will grant you access to use your medical needs.
I would recommend Dr Marks in a heartbeat. One can always look elsewhere if it doesn't work out to your satisfaction, but my experience so far with him & his staff has been very good. I had no trouble making an initial appointment a year ago and have made my followup appts before leaving the office. I've also called to have a prescription changed which he ok'd the same day. He's one of the kindest medical practitioners I've ever met. He's sincere and is there because he wants to help people. He also does volunteer medical work with an international organization. He's a hard to find type of physician and I'm grateful he's there.
Just walked in utter frustration. I had my first appointment two months ago. I didn't see the doctor, which is irksome (given my $50 co-pay) but not unusual. After a very long wait, I saw the PA or whatever she is. I knew exactly what she would say because the paper-thin walls ensured I heard every word she said to the patient next door. I left with the promise they would call when I had been OK'd for a sleep study. Weeks went by, no call. I called them and was told they hadn't even started trying to get approval. More weeks, then I did the 3-night sleep study. A week later, I was informed they never got the pre-approval from my insurance so I would have to do it again. Two more weeks, and I was told they had the OK, come and get the equipment so I could do it all over again. Today when she handed me the same form I have filled out, and I was asked for the 3rd time about credit card info and my driver's license number, I walked out. I'm calling Cigna to suggest dropping this practice.
Not happy at all!! Was scheduled an appointment for 8:15 to find out they don’t even open until 9!!!!! Time is money and this was a horrible waste of what I already don’t have.
I called the office around 3PM and they said they were really busy and they would return my call that same day. Well they didn't. The next morning I called at 9AM when they open and received an automated message that were closed right now. I kept calling back and now it is 9:26 AM and still no one answers the phone. If the office staff treats you that way I can only imagine how the medical team treats you. In one of the scariest times of my life, Dr. Marks and his team were there for me. After getting the news that I needed to see a Specialist, I was so nervous and just wanted to know everything- about - everything. The receptionist listened to my situation (with empathy) and was like, “let’s work you in tomorrow… I will ask Dr. Marks to move some things.” Seriously?? What Dr.’s office does that? Um.. NONE except them. After I spent some time with Dr. Marks, I knew that I chose the right doctor. He explained everything in lamens terms, showed me the scans and used them to paint of picture of my situation. He is kind and really cares about his patients. I was having some touchy moments during this time and he even gave me a direct line just in case I experienced those symptoms again after office hours. Initially we had some issues scheduling a follow up appointment, but Dr. Marks rectified the situation as soon as he was aware. He takes the time to explain things and follows up in a timely manner. Very friendly and informative. Great staff also!
was referred by my general practitioner but never able to get through to make an appointment; they have recordings that say to leave a message, but no one ever called back. All these reviews say the doctor may be OK, but the staff is horrible. If you can't even get through to make an appointment, in my book that is terrible. Have asked my doctor for a different referral.
This is the worse place ever in regards to contacting anyone. Have been calling everyday for a week and have yet to get anyone to answer phone or return my call. It obvious customer service is not a strong point.
Would love to have Dr. Marks for my pulmonary doctor, but am unwilling to deal with his staff. No one ever answers the phone. May or not call you back. Frequently voice mail does not allow for leaving a message. If I'm in need, cannot rely on being able to get ahold of the doctor when needed. So I am forced to go elsewhere!
Horrible and arrogant staff only care about the money and not the patient!!!
As an adult, I have had asthma since birth so I am accustomed to shortness of breath. Dr. Marks was recommended highly by my regular physician, and i'm feeling MUCH better.
While I think Dr. Marks is really good at what he does, his office staff is very weak. It is almost impossible to get someone to answer the phone and when I leave a message, it is rarely followed up on. As an example, I have called and talked with office staff 4 times in the last 4 weeks about a prescription for a travel CPAP and they have still not followed through.
If you want to be treated with care, respect and dignity. Dr Marks will assure you get that and more. My family and I trust our health to San Antonio’s best !
Dr. Marks is an outstanding pulmonary physician! I’ve been under his care for a while, as I suffer from chronic asthma. Dr. Marks bedside manner is excellent. He is caring, understanding, and genuinely explains his concerns. I suffered an asthma attack in his presence, while prepping for a marathon race. Dr. Marks immediately tended to me and provided the care that saved my life. I see Dr. Marks often for my condition, and his staff are polite and welcoming. I highly recommend Dr. Marks!
The office staff is questionable. I had to pay the full fee upfront, because the clerk interpreted my insurance; I assured her insur. would pay part! Then I was charged an extra $11 fee to use a credit card to pay! My insur. did pay, & I haven’t gotten a refund & I'm sure I won’t get back part of that cc fee! Rip off! I’m also not feeling great care by Dr.Marks; I explained how much worse I felt, but was dismissed because of a test that looked good—Im not better, I live it, but case closed ?
Outstanding service. Would recommend to everyone.
He is the best sarcoid doctor in San Antonio, he literally saved my life
Great friendly staff. Liz did a great job with my PFT!

i got in on short notice, got all my testing done and a working solution to my issue within 30 days from the first phone call. Wait time is about 20 minutes, slightly longer when busy. The staff was easy to talk to and very patient oriented. I would have no problem referring family here.
Very kind an thorough! I have been really struggling to get CPAP supplies and he made it happen in a week! He respoinded personally to a secure message sent thru the patient portal on Friday night. Very impressive! Nice staff and office. So glad I as referred to him.

I’ve been having respiratory issues for years. A simple cold would run into a two week recovery which diminished my quality of life and overall health. Although I see my PCP regularly, there was no explanation for this and as I got older, episodes were more frequent and were prolonged. I decided to see Dr. Marks because I’ve worked with him in the hospital setting and recognized his devotion to his patients and his exceptional care. I had pneumonia on my first visit and he was incredibly thorough on my examination. He didn’t just listen to my lungs and prescribe meds like other doctors did. He performed multiple tests, labs, and developed a treatment plan specific to me. I recovered well. Surprisingly, all the testing revealed a defect in my immune system which put everything into perspective for me. My susceptibility to infections and long recoveries have a name and can be treated and Dr. Marks is the ONLy doctor who recognized the deficiency in my 45 years of life. Dr. Marks spent all the time with me needed to understand my issues and to explain next steps. He was exceptionally prompt in getting back to me with test results. He projected a clear sense of concern and interest in my situation.
My mother was referred to Dr. Marks. She liked Dr. Marks; however, his office staff is extremely rude and unprofessional. My mother had tests run, and the office staff refused to return my mother's calls when she tried to find out the test results a week later. After 9 days, she finally had to go over there two times before someone would return her call regarding her results. The office staff here thinks they can treat patients in a cold and callous manner and get away with it. And they do.

I found Dr Marks and his staff extremely competent. Highly recommend.
I'm a senior cancer survivor that has been affected by hard sleep apnea issues. When we relocated to San Antonio, TX we were referred to Dr. David Marks, MD, at the Pulmonary Sleep Institute. After a battery of tests and sleep studies, my diagnosis was reevaluated and my sleep therapies adjusted to address my sleep disorders. My outdated CPAP unit was replaced by a state of the art unit. My follow up visits are equally rewarding. He provides a valued trademark of medical excellence.
Dr. Marks always takes the time needed to be sure I understand our conversations about my health. His office is very welcoming with a friendly and caring staff. I have referred a new patient to him who loves him just as well.
Dr. Marks listens to his patients and is an expert in his field. He is collaborative and will call on other doctors for advice if there is something he is unsure about. He is very good at making sure you understand what is going on and the treatment plan. He called me at 7:30pm to report lab results and explain his proposed treatment plan and was willing to come in early or work on a weekend to schedule a needed procedure. He is honestly the best doctor/specialist I've seen.

HORRIBLE! Calling the office goes directly to an answering machine, no matter what department you call. They never answer the phone during business hours, and I have called a plethora of times. Messages left and no return phone call, and they communicate they will return your phone call within 24 hours, which does not happen. I do not know how I was able to make an appointment in the first place, luck I guess... I called to leave a message to finally cancel my appointment because I could not get my paperwork transferred from my previous doctor because of their inattentiveness, and then 4 hours later I receive a phone call confirming my appointment. Office staff is a joke... I do not know about Dr Marks, but I am not going to give an evaluation of him based on his office staff, because I could not even get in the door to see him. I have a good friend who is friends with him so I am sure he is top notch. I was referred to him by Dr Webb who is an ENT. My review is of his office staff in their lack of professionalism in doing their jobs in taking care of patient contact. Hopefully in person they do a better job, but via phone they need serious help. She didn't even question why not when I tried to say it was a death overnight she became argued and snickered really? Dr Marks is probably and excellent doctor but I would not recommend due to his staff problems. The phone staff needs serious training! I have been a patient with Dr. Marks for almost two years and I am very satisfied with Dr. Marks and his staff. He is very knowledgeable, friendly, and I am extremely pleased with the quality of care, detail explanation of those complicated medical terms, and his professionalism.
Dr. Marks is good but not good enough to deal with the reception. Try to call several times and got after hours message during the scheduled open hours. This happened several times. But I'll send a personal email and see if I get a response. Dr. Marks called very shortly after sending him an email. We discussed the problem and where the breakdown occurred. I am glad to see that there are individuals that truly care about the service they provide. I'll leave this up so that people can see that Dr. Marks is concerned and does respond. I could not be more pleased with Dr Marks, his resident, and his staff! This was by far one of the best experience I have ever had. Angie was very pleasant and was prompt in scheduling my appointment. She was very friendly and is a excellent asset to the practice! Dr. Marks and his resident were excellent. Thy both offered therapeutic listening and allowed me to express all my concerns. Dr. Marks provided me with more information and helped me to better understand my diagnosis in one visit than what I have had in past visits with other doctors. HORRIBLE! Calling the office staff is horrible! They never answer the phone. Messages left and no return phone call, and they communicate they will return your phone call within 24 hours, which does not happen. I have called them repeatedly. I called to leave a message to cancel my appointment because I could not get my paperwork transferred from my previous doctor because of their inattentiveness in communication, and then 4 hours later I receive a phone call confirming my appointment. They...
