David Dodgin

I was already familiar with Dr. Dodgin because of his work on my wife's two knee replacements. He's an excellent, highly experienced orthopedic surgeon. Couldn't have hoped for a better hip replacement experience and recovery. He made sure I was comfortable every step of the way.

Eight months ago I had a total knee replacement under the care of Dr. Dodgin and his team. Before surgery Dr. Dodgin answered all my questions thoroughly and clearly. I didn't feel rushed during office visits. MUVE surgical center proved to be a wonderful facility to have the surgery and start recovery. The home-like environment and quietness of the facility was a pleasant surprise. The nursing staff, and the physical therapist along with Dr. Dodgin were instrumental in getting me off to a good start in my rehabilitation. I recommend Dr. Dodgin without any hesitation--he is a surgeon with great skills and compassion.

Recently had a review of my replaced knee and then an assessment of my other knee…. Received a gel injection by expert hands followed by a very patient discussion answering questions and concerns related to possibility of second replacement. I trust his advice and recommendations completely. Hands down, one of the best healthcare providers I have interacted with over several years!!

I highly recommend Dr Dodgin. He is personable and patient, always taking as much time as needed to answer all my questions. He is also a skilled surgeon. I am 5 weeks post op after a total knee replacement. The recovery has been much easier than I expected. I am walking tall, without a limp for the first time in years. I have observed many relatives and friends having knee replacements, and based on my observations, my recovery and rehab has been easier and less painful than anyone I know. I am very happy!

There is a knee replacement (or two) in the near future and I feel absolutely confident with Dr Dodgin, his associates, and staff . Dr. Dodgin has handled both of my knee replacements. Uses the latest technology to make sure you have the best outcome possible. He uses the Muve Center so no additional patients other than those who are hip or knee replacements are in the rehab center upstairs. Felt safe and was so clean. Best experience with surgery and if you follow the program as he prescribed you will be amazed.

Dr David Dodgin and his team are awesome. They do a great job from your first appointment all the way through your procedure. They are very informative, care about your opinion and he discusses all of the options. He lets you be a part of the decision making. Not every surgeon does that. I have been incredibly pleased with Dr David Ddgin. He is very personable and has a great level of concrn for getting one back into good health and activities of life. I've had both hips replaced by Dr. Dodgin and I am thrilled with the results. I'm 3 months post-op today and I have no pain at all. After moving from Austin, I tried other doctors in my area but decided he was the only one I wanted to do these surgeries. His staff and the staff at Muve made the process easy. The facilities are top-notch. They take the time to answer questions and make sure you're well-prepared. Fingers crossed I never have to have another replacement surgery, but if I did, I would drive another 12 hours to have him do it. Dr. Dodgin was very thorough and honest in all of his explanations. He answered all questions and was very personable. His bed side manor is on point. I would recommend Dr. Dodgin to all my family and friends.

Over a year ago I had meniscus surgery done by Dr Dodgin. His staff was rude and unhelpful and did not return phone calls when I was trying to make surgical arrangement. When Dr Dodgin finally called me back, delaying his return call until I had could no longer cancel my surgery and insulted and disparaged me for leaving rude voicemail when nobody would even have the courtesy to return a call. I had the surgery and my knee is almost as painful as it was prior to the surgery and has been ever since the surgery. After surgery I never saw Dr Dodgin again. He sent his intern into do the post opp appointment, I was in a great deal of pain and had swelling in areas of my knee that had never hurt before. The intern totally disregarded that as normal and offered no guidance on rehap, post op therapy, or anything. It was the most ridiculous medical conversation I have ever witnessed. I could not be more disappointed in a doctor Ridiculous and still painful experience.

Dr Dodgin has replaced left hip and left knee

At 36 years old, I was in need of a total hip replacement after an injury 7 years prior. My experience with Dr.Dodgin was great from the very first visit. I had met with several surgeons prior to Dr.Dodgin and he impressed me with his kind demeanor and excellent bedside manner. He never made me feel rushed. I had my THR at the Muve facility in Lakeway and the whole process was fantastic- no complaints at all! I was assigned a nurse navigator that answered my pre surgery questions day and night and the support I had from them pre and post op was amazing. My recovery was great and I am so glad I chose Dr.Dodgin for this procedure!!

Dr David Dodgin has changed my life for the better.. I have struggled way to many years with both knee's in pain and recently R hip pain. I have been getting draining's and a host of different injections for more than 10 years. The end result warrants only replacement. I have been banged up many times in my 68 yrs. resulting in quite a few surgery's. Dr. Dodgin in the last year and a half has been a God sent to the betterment of my life. Instead of being in pain and a walker I am again wheel barreling dirt from the front to the back yard, climbing, 8ft step ladders to cut down limbs, and fishing in the blue water of the Keys. Can't wait to walk the River walk in San Antonio without having to sit somewhere every little distance ! In about 12 1/2 months Doc Dodgin has very skillfully replaced both knees at the same time and give me a new right hip as a bonus.. Thank you so much Doc Dodgin for the person you are ! Dr. Dodgin is an amazing surgeon and a great doctor. I've had a hip replacement and 2 knee replacements done by him. He was always straight forward about what to expect. He took time to explain things and listened to any questions I had. He is one of the BEST doctors I have ever met. I can't say enough good about him and his staff.

Dr. Dodgin cares about his patients. He was very caring to me and very knowledgeable. He was patient and asked me questions about my recovery. He was professional and yet remembered that I played golf. I liked that so much because it showed me that he valued me as a person. I respected him so much that I recommend a friend of mine to him.

Dr Dodgin was very direct about informing me that I needed a knee replacement. He was very clear about the recovery process and did not sugar coat anything. While this was not what I wanted to hear, he did offer alternatives (injections, arthroscopic surgery). He also suggested Muve Health if I chose the total knee replacement. I'm glad I chose knee replacement, I'm glad I chose Muve and I'm glad I chose Dr Dodgin as my surgeon. He is compassionate, easy to talk to and he has a sense of humor. He was highly recommended to me by a co-worker and I have not been disappointed. I'm also going to give a shout out to his NP Leah, who closed my incision. My scar is barely discernable. Communication throughout pre- and post-op has been excellent, especially with the navigators at Muve. Hopefully, I won't have to do this again but if I do, Dr Dodgin will be my surgeon.

Never even saw Dr. Dodgin. Staff apparently overbooked his schedule and after waiting 1.5 hours I left in disgusting. My time is valuable too and if he can't run an office effectively then I prefer to have another physician who will actually see patients when appointments are made.

Am on day 4 post op knee replacement. Off all narcotics! Doing exercises independently. At surgery at Muve Outpatient and stayed for 2 days in their community Setting. Excellent care. Was so comfortable and treated as a partner and not a patient. Highly recommend if you are healthy and willing to be responsible for your care. Dr. Dodgin very committed to positive outcomes and respected my needs and expectations.

My experience in the office was okay but the 6 texts about seeing all of the doctors was a bit much. I also received the same requests in my email. I only saw Dr. Dodgin, MD I shouldn't receive a survey for doctors I didn't even see!! It was a bit of overkill and seemed like you didn't know which doctor I saw so you sent the emails and texts to cover all the doctors. Absolutely not necessary!! I am a 69 yo male. Dr Dodgin performed a TKR on my right knee in August of last year. I just had my 1 year followup and I could not be happier. I am pain free and have fantastic range of motion. Dr. Dodgin has been my Orthopedic Specialist for the last 10years, recommended by my primary care doctor. I just had my right knee replaced. Excellent surgeon for new and failed surgeries. Will spend as much time as needed so the patient and their family understands exactly what is wrong and what needs to be done to solve the problem. A surgeon that I feel comfortable in referring any patient to for evaluation and surgery. I have never heard any negative comments from anyone I have referred to Dr. Dodgin. Dr. Dodgin is kind, gentle and caring. He is genuine and not wrapped up in his ego. I have had 16 knee surgeries since the age of 11. Dr. Dodgin has done my double knee replacements. Yes, I had 2 sets of double knee replacements. I had complications unrelated to his work that he got me through. My situation is very complex due to the extensive earlier surgeries as well as having my knee cap removed at 16. I am now 60, My knees are amazing, strong and healthy. Dr. David Dodgin is a rare find in the Medical world today. He is one of the most compassionate and caring Doctor’s I have ever met. He truly takes the time to listen and explain things to his patients. He never makes you feel like he is rushing or that the next patient is more important than you are. His office staff and PA are outstanding.

I have been seeing Dr. Dodgin for several years, and he kept me from knee replacement for as long as my knee would allow. I had surgery in May with very good results. My entire surgical experience was superb.

Dr Dodgin is simply amazing! I am shocked at how quickly I recovered from my anterior approach hip replacement! I had been in pain for 2 years before finally deciding to go through with the replacement. I am now walking long distances without pain or limping!! He and his staff are caring, confident, helpful, and so personable! I highly recommend him for hip or knee replacements!

First time visit. Most warm & friendly help. Was willing to work with my schedule. a first in the medical field! His entire office staff was also great.

Had an initial appointment for knee pain, xray's were fine, but if pain continued I would need an MRI. MRI completed, set up appointment to go over results and treatment options. Made an appointment for 3:15, at 4:35 I had not seen Dr. Dodgin, just placed in a room and told he would be in. Upon leaving I told the PA that I had to go, stated I could reschedule my appointment or wait and he would be in with me next. I understand wait times change based on patients/surgery, but almost an hour and a half is a little much. Disappointed in the lack of communication or caring shown. Will not be back for another visit.

Dr. Dodgin is a well-mannered gentleman, easy to talk with, and knows his profession. I came from Canada to see him and it was worth the visit.

He may know his stuff medically, which is great. But I couldn't believe how crappy he was to me. It actually took me a while to get past it. This guy needs a personality transplant.

I myself am not going under the knife, my son is getting work done on his knee. Am confident that th he surgeon knows his ability to do the surgery correctly and to his best ability. My son has had problems in the past with his knees, hopefully this along with rehab will allow him to get back to doing what he loves, sports, boxing, MMA, Muay thai, basketball football etc... The part that is most troubling is the part that insurance covers and doesn't cover. The insurance companies are nothing more than legal thieves. Should not have to pay a deductible when you have paid your premiums. I myself am not going under the knife, my son is getting work done on his knee. Let me just say, in my opinion, you will NOT find a better orthopedic doctor! Dr. Dodgin truly cares about his patients and it shows. He performed my right full hip replacement in January 2017 and my left full hip replacement in March 2018. Both surgeries went smooth and I have not had any issues. I am actually able to bend down and put on socks now! I know it seems funny but it's the little things that you weren't able to do before surgery. Excellent doctor - recommend him to everyone.

Additional attempts to resend the email to the front desk personnel didn’t seem to work. Internal systems are ooor. Lobby is messy and furniture tattered. Amazing doctor. Does a great job with hips. I struggled for over seven years with horrible hip pain. Saw several doctors with different diagnoses and just kept getting worse doing years of PT and chiropractic therapy. After a single injection in my hip bursa, I have had almost complete relief. It has actually lasted over three years now!!! I can’t thank Dr. Dodgin enough. He is miracle worker !! Amazing doctor. Does a great job with hips. My wife had her knee and hip replaced by Dr Dodgin. We don't think you could find a better doctor anywhere. He was her doctor when he was in California. Very sad when he left.

This is the first time I have submitted a review on a medical practitioner. It is time for me to acknowledge the greatness and integrity of Dr Dodgin as an orthopedic surgeon and concerned health provider. In 2009 I was faced with a need to have hip replacement on my worst hip. I was referred to Dr Dodgin by a current patient that just had hip replacement. I was immediately sold on Dr Dodgin's anterior bilateral hip replacement strategy. He recommended both hips be replaced at the same time. At the pre op physical therapy meeting with other patients (not Dr Dodgin's patients), the physical therapist presented a long litany of restrictions that patients would need to adhere to. She looked at me and said Dr Dodgin has no restrictions for you. The other patients were in shock that I had no restrictions. The result of the surgery having both hips replaced at the same time was that I climbed a flight of stairs on day 3 and hiked in the Hoosier Forest a month later. Nine years later the hips are flawless. I was disappointed that Dr Dodgin moved his practice from Bloomington, Il to Austin, Tx In May 2016 I visited an orthopedic surgeon in Bloomington, Il for my knees. It took me an hour to get in for my appointment and he spent 2 minutes with me. I asked him how long before I will need a knee replacement. He said: " I'm not good at forecasting that". He gave me a couple of prescriptions that had no positive benefit and in fact made me nauseous. Having enough of this local care in Bloomington , IL I reached out by email to Dr Dodgin one evening asking if he could see me. I had a reply the following morning welcoming me to come to Austin for an evaluation. My appointment was at 7:45 in the morning. He spent 15 minutes with me discussing the knee issue. Dr. Dodgin indicated that there are a couple of treatment options for me and forecasted that I would have 3 to 5 years left before I would need replacement. He said they have been having success with injections and he would start with that. So, I had an injection and I was out of there by 8:30. It has been 30 days since this injection. So far I have returned to leading an active lifestyle, where previously I had to limp gingerly while walking and using steps. I have been able to return to my exercise regime of cross country skiing and biking. I unequivocally endorse Dr Dodgin and will continue travelling to Austin, Tx from Bloomington, IL for my care. Dr Dodgin was very professional, did a superb job on my hip replacement! The follow-up visits were very informative. I intend to keep Dr Dodgin as my surgeon of choice! I am pain free and actually often forget about my hip being replaced 2 years ago.

I have had both hips replaced- one last November then the other in June. was surgery #11 and #12.....I'm an old athlete and there was no accident just completely wore out both hips. My experience was nothing less than excellent both times. Dr. Dodgin is by far one of the best. My recovery time was about the same for both hips and although grueling the experience itself was by far the best. His attention to detail is impressive. Unlike other doc's that like to keep their patients away from drugs that can help them heal he pays attention and I did not suffer in any way. Can't say that for my knee surgeon where I was begging for pain pills and wanted to die from all of the suffering. Wish I had gone to Dodgin for that one.....on a separate note the folks at the Westlake hospital where I recovered were amazing! Dr. Dodgins was very friendly, knowledgeable and thorough in his exam of my knee. He gave me options and support information for each. I felt listened to and he understood my pain. After our discussion we decided on an injection which has eased my pain greatly.

My wife had her 3rd hip replacement in 4 years. Dr Dodgin was recommended by a friend because she was still having problems with the last one. After he did the 4th surgery on her hip he said it would take her about 1 year to recover because of the previous surgeries. This by far was the most successful one she has had. He was very easy to talk to and explained everything he was going to do.

Dr. Dodgin has been absolutely amazing. Always takes time to answer my questions and I never feel hurried. After 2 previous knee surgeries with another physician, in less than 1 year, he was able to figure out what was really going wrong with my knee. He is excellent and I highly recommend.
