Dr. David Brian Coates

I took my son to have a molar removed and sat in the corner of the room. He was numbed up with gel and then injections. Dr. Coates started pulling and wiggling on the tooth. My son expressed pain and said it hurt still and he did nothing like he was being ignored. This happened multiple times and the doctor ignored him and kept yanking on his tooth. Eventually he yanked it out but not before my son broke out in a complete sweat and his leg and hands were shaking. Once done the doctor stated my son was pale and he was going to recline him back and applied oxygen to him. I have never wanted to react so hostility than I did today. (P.S. my son had severe anxiety and social issues and is on disability, so this didn't help)

I think they are great! If you are going to them, you’re already hurting or have a problem. I’ve been there for 2 extractions in the last year! One under and one awake. Rude, unorganized, cocky doctor. Treated my 18 year old daughter away from home at college like a piece of crap. I would NEVER consider him for anything. Furthermore, she said the office was dirty and creepy. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. NO ONE deserves to be treated so poorly. Even Dr Coates office manager felt bad for my daughter. That says a LOT to me.

Like a few of the other reviews Dr Coates is very rude and hostile. My first appointment I was taken back an hour after my scheduled appointment time only leaving about 10 minutes before I had to go to work. I only spent about 2-3 minutes with the doctor. Against my better judgement, I returned for my procedure but he was VERY annoyed that I had more questions before being put under. I told him if it was annoying for him I could go somewhere else and he said “this is strange” and walked out of the room. Added bonus, while I waited in the lobby I listened to front desk talk bad about other clients. I do not recommend this place at all. Had my wisdom teeth removed here with no issues and staff is pleasant!

Fantastic staff, removed four wisdom teeth no issue. Highly recommend them!

I had 16 teeth remove at one time Dr Coates did a great job it was painless I was a wake the hole time.

The most hostile and rude dentist I’ve ever come in contact with. Incredible rude to me because I had questions before being put under. I ended up leaving with out doing my procedure. Please read Dr Coates reviews online before scheduling with this place. You will regret it!

Ugh I can’t say anything nice about this office. The dr was so rude and cold. I left with out getting my procedure done. Please read this mans reviews before a scheduling anything at his office. There are many out there speaking about his hostile attitude!

Everyone was helpful and kind, the procedure was explained well, no pain, and the instructions were clear.

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!!!

"I have never , ever experienced such a degrading atmosphere in a dentists office ..So i called to reschedule because they wouldn't take me because i was sick .to my surprise a rude as receptionist tells me i have to go somewhere else because i cancelled but wait a minute there the one's who wouldn't take me because i was sick now they come up with a bs story that i gotta seek my wisdom tooth taking out some where else..but they didn't have a problem taking my money for first consultation ....what a rip off..this haves ti be a joke... I'm Samantha Kimmel, K's wife, David Coates patient. The only problem I've ever had at Oral Surgery was a LONG time ago and it was the staff. Very snooty. Those people are GONE!! The only other problem was recently when Dr. Coates wouldn't let me hug him long enough. There ya go. :)

I was put to sleep and they took all my wisdom teeth out and I didn’t have any discomfort or any problems afterwards and I would recommend Dr. Coates to anyone.

The receptioninst was not interested in answering my questions about implants. I have never had a significant oral surgery done so I had a few general questions about cost, possible complications, and about the abutment. It was obvious that I was calling to gather information about this costly procedure and she cut me off with one word answers more than once. I will not be going here for their services and if I was this dentist I would replace the receptionist with a more professional one. I was reading the reviews for this place and I thought "It does not sound too bad." The first time I was there, I was willing to tolerate a receptionist who didn't want to do more work than necessary, and floor that needs a little sweeping. The nurses were kind and friendly, and Dr. Coates seemed like a nice person. I was willing to give them a chance and benefit of the doubt until the last incident that really pushed me over the edge. I had my two right wisdom teeth taken today by Dr. Coates. Compare to the other two that was done by a different dentist in NC (not an oral surgeon, both were done by local anesthetics), this experience was so different. He was rough. The hot drill touched my lips a few times, which I believe caused a tear and swelling on my lower lips. When I asked him about this later, he got angry and defensive, accusing me of "arguing" with him, and having the "attitude" when he is the dentist with 27 years of experience. I was so surprised at such a response, when in fact, I just wanted answers to my questions (like what a normal patient would wanted.) I walked out of the dentist in tears from such treatment. I believe that, health care providers should be the one to de-escalate situation and not escalate it. Especially with patients who are only worried about her health. Even if I was doing all of the above that he was accusing me of, he should not have spoken unprofessionally to a patient. Health care professionals should kindly answer any questions that patients have. No matter how stupid or simple. In the end, their job is not only to address patient's health needs, but also to educate them. My girlfriend went in after surgery due to an uncomfortable amount swelling. Clearly worried and scared, she was met with a hostile and defensive response from Dr. Coates. He raised his voice at her and became noticeably angered. As a healthcare professional, it is your job to manage the situation and concerns of your patients. This did not happen in our experience. In fact, Dr. Coates was very unprofessional in our interaction with him. I would strongly advise using a different oral surgeon. I would never refer any friends or family to Dr. Coates. I had my left wisdom teeth removed at another dentist a few years ago and my right two by Dr. Coates. I have been to many dentists in the US but Dr. Coates is the worst so far. Compare to my previous experience (both with local anesthesia), my experience with Dr. Coates was really uncomfortable. He was very rough. The hot drill touched my lips a few times and got swollen. When I confronted him about it, he got angry and defensive. Very unprofessional. I ran out of the room in tears. Never again.

Their follow through with your appointments and concern for your condition did not exists at all was told some one would contact me in regards to my appointment however no one ever did so when I call to see if there is a problem I am told I will have a return call and here it is a week later and I haven't heard from them. The office and Dr Coates need to work on their follow through with their patients it's been 4 months now and the problem is still not taken care of

Receptionist was very welcoming, and helpful. I had all wisdom teeth pulled/cut, and didn't even need to be put out for the procedure. Dr. Coates did an awesome job at making sure I was prepared, and ready for the days following. Great job!
