It has now been 20 years since Dr Boarini removed a benign tumor from the bottom of my brain. He saved my life.

Erin, the nurse is great. Very personable…very professional and efficient as well. Immediately felt comfortable with her. My visit with Dr Boarini went well…short and to the point…but he has never been anything but honest and straightforward with me…and I appreciate that. He is an excellent surgeon …100 % confidence in him and his staff .

Dr. Boarini is the worst Doctor and person I have experienced as a patient. I injured my neck in an accident at work and was sent to him through IMWCA. I see why they send people to this doctor, he made up his mind before ever seeing me, he walked into the room and immediately told me to buy some Aleve and quit complaining. My wife and I were dumbfounded. He then went on to say,”you’re not paralyzed, you don’t have cancer, what’s your problem?” When I tried to ask a question, he told me to watch a video and left the room. This doctor is a menace to his patients. Then a few days later, my attorney sent me his notes, apparently I should stop smoking, which I don’t. He also used his telepathic powers to determine I was “neurologically intact”, his words, having never done any kind of assessment, he was in my exam room for less than 2 minutes. The doctors notes are completely inaccurate, I’m not even sure they’re mine. I went so far as to file a complaint with the state medical board. This man has no business seeing patients. Very rude. Spent 5 minutes with me. Put inaccurate statements in medical file. Dismissed because of age(33) ridiculed for weight(180 and diagnosed with severe Crohn's with weight fluctuations from 140-200 and can't do anything about it). This Dr is arrogant, rude, and couldn't care less.

We received the worst care from this doctor. He never physically came in to see us and evaluate my husband before he was discharged, which was way to soon after the accident that occurred. He was very unkind to his nurses which was the best thing this hospital had. We were released and had further issues in which I had called and spoke with him on the phone about. He told me if we felt like he needed to be reevaluated he could come back to the ER. I had then decided after speaking with him I would not go back to that hospital. We went to another hospital and I had expressed concern and was told to look up his google reviews. In which I am not surprised at all to see his rating. We are now being readmitted. Wait at least 30 mins to an hour to see then if overweight won't help. Will keep telling you to come back and get more tests. Also will have you walk to the end of the room (4 steps) then say you'll be ok just loose weight. I redid mri for him and nerve test. Said nerve test was good but could see how bad my back was. Still will not help. Previous surgen actually went over and showed me mri scans and why he recommended surgery. He left the practice a week before surgery and I was stuck with this guy.

I went here as a referral from my dr in marshalltown specialty. I was referred by my dr to dr David boarini because I needed back surgery for my spinal stenosis. And due to lack of staff at the marshalltown specialty clinic my original dr who did my myelogram CT and other imaging on my back he couldn’t do my surgery. Dr boarini or however you spell his name said I’m young (22) and walk fine and I don’t have spinal stenosis. I waited in the waiting room for 1 and a half hours and only saw boarini for 5-10 minutes. He disregarded all the work my original dr did and finishing he found and said my original dr was wrong. Keep in mind boarini didn’t even look over my images my dr sent to him. He then proceeded to take his mask off sneeze in his hand! During a pandemic and then try to touch me without washing his hand! I’m giving him a 1 star because no star isn’t an option. My spinal stenosis issue is genetic. I have a long family history of back problems both parents and grandparents have had back surgeries and multiple at that! Boarini is very sexist and ageist is that’s a thing? I’m now seeing a wonderful dr kasper in Ames McFarland clinic who also found a slight knee issue I didn’t know I “had” I always thought my knee grinding was normal but apparently not. I went to Dr. Boarini 3 years ago with an open mind after reading all these reviews. I found him to be very direct and to the point regarding my leg and back pain. I like the honest approach so I followed his recommendation to visit the pain clinic for shots to see if that would help. This did for a bit although after a few shots the pain didn’t seem to go away anymore. I went back to him this year (2021) after another MRI where he saw me walk the short distance as others describe. He said “I can help you". He explained what he saw on the MRI which he did prior to our meeting and what would take place. I like someone else in these reviews was mowing my yard after 5 days. I respect this man for his honesty as a surgeon and person so much and hope this helps someone else to realize his talent and what an excellent surgeon he is. Thank you Dr Boarini. Ive only met Dr. Boarini once in the hospital after my Chiari surgery. (He didn't preform the surgery, he was discharging me.) I can’t believe how rude he was. He never looked at my incision before insisting that I would be leaving that day. Not only did he never look at me to check if I was fine to leave, he instead had a verbal yelling match with my mom in my room. My mom was just visiting me. I’m a young adult so for some reason he assumed that she was babying me because she was there. I had never met this man before so I don’t know what his problem was. He didn’t tell me what to do at home or what medicine I should take or why. He was horrid. I hope I never see him again.

I am confused at the low scores. I am almost 2 months post op. I had a herniated disc and several bone spurs. Dr. Boarini is a master at surgery. I could not have had a better surgeon. He fully explained everything before and even asked if I had more questions the day of. It was my 1st surgery and he had me secure knowing I was in good hands. I highly recommend him.

The spinal surgery that Dr. Boarini performed was very successful. I was losing control of my arms and legs. After the surgery I regained what had been lost. He did very well, and ten years later at age 72, I am very fit and active.

He did a Anterior Cervical Discectomy on me several years ago. True, he was not warm and fuzzy on my initial visit, he was direct and to the point. The minute I was out of surgery and awoke the pain was GONE! All of the negative reviews appear to me to be that he wasn't hugging them or holding a hand. It sounds like too many people really didn't want to hear the truth. If you need 100% sensitivity maybe you need to see a Psychologist instead. An Excellent Surgeon is what I got!

I have been a patient of Dr. Boarini for many years as he follows me for two separate medical issues. He is an outstanding surgeon. Yes, he is direct but honest. More importantly, he will not perform surgical procedures unless absolutely necessary. In my opinion, individuals who visit neurosurgeons should want a physician who understands that surgical procedures should be performed when it is the only option available.

The schedule staff and nurses were great and helpful. Mr. Boarini himself was over an hour late for my appointment, proceeded to tell me that I needed a surgery to fix my back, but refused to provide any details or answer any questions because my weight made me ineligible for the surgery. When asked what my weight needed to be so I could move forward, he couldn't even provide that answer. he was rude and arrogant. I waited over a month for the appointment just to completely waste my time.

Dr. Boarini preformed both of my surgeries. He's direct, to the point, professional and I felt/feel like he genuinely cared/cares about using his talent, experience and outstanding surgical skill to get me on a path to a pain-free future. We waited in the waiting room for over 30 minutes. He had not looked at our files once before we met with him. He did not do any type of physical examination. He had me walk 3 steps to the door-that was his entire exam. I was in great pain and all he said was "What I need you to do is lose weight." I had not gained weight until I became in pain and unable to move. His bedside manner was AWFUL-cold and uncaring. I would NEVER go back and NEVER recommend him to ANYONE. Don't waste your time.

I had seen Dr. Boarini back in 2013 for a lumbar fusion follow up after my own surgeon, Dr. Carlstrom had retired, needless to say I was VERY displeased. Like many others have said, I would wait nearly an hour in the exam room for him to come in and see me for less than five minutes. It was the same thing every single time and my examination would consist of me walking away from him and then toward him, then standing on my toes and then my heels, the end. TERRIBLE bedside manner!

My experience was horrible. He was very rude, abrupt and I felt that I was an inconvenience in his day. After waiting in the exam room for over 55 minutes he spent less than 5 minutes with me. He looked at my MRI for only a couple of seconds and recommended an epidural, Pt and an anti inflammatory. My daughter was trying to ask questions and he brushed them off like she was not even there. Dr. Boarini saw my elderly father at Methodist Unity Point hospital today. He was the rudest doctor I have ever seen. Upon entering the room, he dismissed the aide who was there with an arrogant wave of his hand ---as she was offering her hand to shake when introductions were made. He asked my father some quesytions about his past and as Dad struggled to answer, the Dr got out his cell phone and read through text messages. It was an experience that left me with a sick, hollow pit in my stomach

I was seen by Dr Boarini a number of years ago and although the radiologists report said I had disc ruptured and vertebra problems. Dr Boarini barely looked the MRI or the report and told me. "You are just too fat, there is nothing wrong with you." I got a second opinion from Lynn Nelson. He wanted me to try injections before surgery. I got injections for 2 years, every 3 months. I was injected on both sides of my lower spine. When they stopped working I returned to Nelson. He decided to xray my lower back and the xray showed that I had 2-3 vertebrata that were stair stepping on top of each other. every time I'd be lying down they would slide back in place. I have since had Dr. Nelson do 2 back surgeries. I have plates, rods and screws holding my back together. If Boarini had paid any attention to the reports or MRI and not just told me I was too fat, I'd have not have had to go through the years of pain...after I'd already been in pain for 10 years before finally asking for help to relieve it.
