He did surgery for me in 2015 looked at my back and was told he couldn't handle the job to fix it or wouldn't because of what my wife said about being thrown under the bus don't handle sarcasm very well when he pawns you to other doctors

Dr. Tomes treated me for spinal stenosis. He took the time to thoroughly brief me on the surgery and answered all my questions/concerns. I am now 3 weeks post op and completely pain free. Dr. Tomes provided care for me after a serious neck fracture accident. The level of communication provided was outstanding, the care plan was aggressive and intended to avoid surgery with the best possible outcome. Dr. Tomes explained the situation very well and in detail using images, provided excellent tips for optimal healing and functional restoration and strongly advocated for caution in certain areas for which I am very thankful. The Nebraska Neurosurgery Group office and staff were also very helpful, working seamlessly with local imaging facilities and making it easy to manage some complex requirements. I am very happy with and appreciative of the care I received from Dr. Tomes and feel that my outcome and prognosis is excellent at this time.

Dr Tomes gives doctors a bad name. After seeing him it's hard to find trust in another doctor holding the same so called credentials. A Workermans compensation puppet. Dr Tomes actions speak louder than words. Just like the four horsemen working for Liberty Mutual, youre teated like a policy not a person and you don't need to be seen or looked at to be diagnosed properly. Ive never been so rushed through at a doctors office. Stay away from this place or make sure you bring a lawyer with you to avoid needing psychiatric care after being ignored and wrote off. This is just a politic micro aggressive machine with a "business as usual" outlook for your health in favor for a loaded system of health insurance company con artist. I will start this off by saying I almost never take the time to leave reviews, but I was so upset and disappointed in the lack of bedside manners and the way I was treated that I want to share my experience. I had an appointment with Dr. Tomes in early November. I left my appointment feeling completely minimalized- I was treated as if I was exaggerating my pain, & as if there was no reason for me to have an appointment there. He rushed through my appointment and sent me on my way with a recommendation to see a physical therapist. I did go to a physical therapist (who said he could not fix my problem based on how my disc was sitting) and another Neurosurgeon for a second opinion. The second Neurosurgeon did updated images, and I was scheduled for surgery on December 3rd for an anterior cervical discectomy and fusion. Following surgery I have now recovered and have NO pain. I would not recommend this office, specifically Dr. Tomes unless you are looking to be shut down, rushed, and not listened to. I have had surgery with Dr. Tomes and he and is staff have done nothing but treat me with the best care and consideration that a person could ask for. I have been seeing him for some years now and continue to be cared for by him. I say thank you to him and all his staff.

Dr. Tomes was the head neurosurgeon when I suffered my traumatic brain injury (TBI) on September 24th, 2004. He saved my life when I had a less than 5% chance of making it. He is humble and a wonderful man. Glad he was there at the hospital when I suffered my second impact concussion!

He guided me through the whole thing slowly so that he was sure I understood him. I’m deaf and he made sure I was comfortable and understood what was happening. Horrible person that doesn't care to listen. Speaks down towards you if you even try to say something. Don't waste your time.

Girlfriend went in with a fractured vertebra and he didnt explain nothing acted like he just needed to be trusted and didnt need to explain himself. Set a surgery date and when my girlfriend called to reschedule he told her she needed to find another Dr. if she didnt do it the day he wanted to. Plus the entire time he was belittling her about that she is unethical, and pretty much saying she's dumb if she doesn't listen to him but yet wouldn't explain anything for her to make her own decision and was forceful about everything. He scared her into believing that she will hurt herself worse by something happening in her day and made the entire situation 100x more stressful than it already is. All in all just a stuck up a**hole. Do not recommend to even call this office. I had herniated and bulging disc Dr. Tomes did two surgeries in ten months took out my L5 and did not space it or fuse it so 7 years later I'm having more problems than before he tells me my disc will grow back on its own... That's not true in a human I would never recommend him to anyone

Just had an appt with Tomes. He was rude, mean, and completely unprofessional. He basically dismissed me from his office and told me to go somewhere else. He didn't yell, but I believe it took all his will power not to. What a horrific experience. I've never been treated so badly in my life. I left in shock and tears.

I had a pleasant experience visiting Dr. Tomes. He and his staff were kind and took time to answer my questions. Surgery also went very well.

Worst brain surgeon in Lincoln I worn people do not go to him for brain surgery he doesn’t know what he is doing in his practice! He doesn’t deserve to handle people with brain cancer

Dr Tomes recently did my back surgery. Prior to surgery, he seemed encouraging. Immediately after surgery- I couldn’t get ahold of him to ask questions, his office was not helpful either with questions, and each visit post op was less than 5 minutes. It is hard- he did I’m sure a fine job on the surgery in general- but the after care is VERY important with healing- and he has been anything but helpful. In fact, he has seemed annoyed with each and every question. I would not recommend him because if you’re like me (not a doctor...) you’ll most likely have questions- need explanation on how to properly heal (what to do, what not to do, ext.) . You will not get this with him or his office. I completed my appointments with him- each time leaving in tears and decided today was the last day I would go to follow up appointments with him. Dr. Tomes is one of the kindest and most caring people you will ever meet. He is an excellent neurosurgeon and very thorough when explaining his diagnosis and treatment plan for you. I couldn’t have asked for a better person to care for my injuries. I was involved in a car accident and fractured c6 and c7 and had an ACDF surgery and am well on my way to recovery all thanks to Dr. Tomes. Unfortunately I can’t say the same for Dr. Tomes’ receptionists. I’m not sure where these people came from but they seem like the most unorganized unhelpful people on the planet. Trying to get a call back about a simple question is about a 4 day wait. I recently asked for a simple email address for disability paperwork I needed filled out and after calling back a couple times I got my email address to send the paperwork to only to find out the lady was out of the office and nobody seemed to know when she would be back. I then asked if she would be back tomorrow or the rest of the week only to be met with an attitude and still no answer to my question. Good help is definitely hard to find and hopefully you have a lot better luck with this receptionist issue. The staff at NE Neurosurgery Group are incredibly helpful with scheduling and assisting patients via phone or in person. Dr. Tomes talked me through my care plan and options in great detail and got me scheduled for a discectomy very quickly after my initial consult. I went from being in constant pain to feeling immediate relief after my surgery. Dr. Tomes is an incredibly skilled surgeon and had my complete trust throughout the entire process. After surgery he checked on me several times, and I could tell that he truly cared about me as a person, not just as another patient. I love this office and am grateful for all you've done! Dr. Tomes is a miracle worker! I had been in so much pain the past two months for a herniated disc and after trying chiropractic treatment, physical therapy, steroids, etc we decided surgery was the last resort. I had been on oxycodone regularly the past two months for pain management and I felt immediate relief after surgery and have not had to take any medications, not even Tylenol since I got out of surgery. This man has Horrible people skills. Without meeting me he decided I was surgery/drug seeker. I came to him at my Drs suggestion with a open mind. I hoped he could figure out what was causing my long term chronic pain and have some answers on how to deal with it. I have never been treated with such disrespect. Too bad he didn’t live up to my preconceived opinion of him. I thought I was going to be dealing with a caring professional. Sadly that was not the case. Do your research before your visit

Thank You Dr. Tomes. I was very fortunate to have an appointment with him and it was in less than 3 weeks. He was extremely knowledgeable and asked me many more necessary questions that the first neurosurgeon , that did not take the time. He listened to what I had to say and gave me a much better picture of my health situation. Thanks, Again!!!!

My first experience was very good. I found Dr. Tomes to be caring and realistic about my treatment options. However, in trying to return for a follow-up visit to discuss further options when my condition did not improve, my appointment was canceled three times. The second time, I left a message asking about pain control options, and it was never returned, I'm sure I would have continued to have confidence in Dr. Tomes if I could have gotten in, but I couldn't risk further delaying treatment.

Was more interested in letting me know he was a surgeon 5 or 6 times, than any problems I was having.

We left Dr. Tomes office with the impression that he is arrogant and pretentious. We felt like he dismissed my husbands claims of being in pain. Our primary care doctor gave him a more thorough exam than Dr. Tomes did. When he did finally relent and let my husband have a test done, we did not hear back from him We had to call 2 weeks later to get the results. Go somewhere else, there are more genuine doctors out there!

Dr. Tomes is one of the most caring doctors I have ever been to. I was having bad back pain and he listened to all my concerns and gave me the treatment I needed. My back feels great and I can function without pain for the first time in years. Thank you, Dr. Tomes!!

I cannot say enough great things about Dr Tomes. He helped me at a really trying time. I was having excruciating back pain that came out of nowhere. Saw my family doc who referred me to Dr Tomes. I thought I would have to wait weeks to get in, but she got me in that same week. He was pleasant, explained everything so I could understand it. After my surgery I felt so much better, which only took about a week to get scheduled! Loved his office staff too. I would recommend him to my family!

Worst Dr and group when it comes to returning calls and a curate diagnosis.

I saw Dr Tomes for my back herniation. I was really impressed with him and his office staff. They were so friendly from the moment I walked in to scheduling my surgery. He did a great job with my surgery and the after care! I would highly recommend him to any of my friends and family!

This was the worst Dr I have ever been to all he did was put me down and said he couldn't help me in any way shape or form thought I was a drug addict and I'm not at all didn't even ask me how many pills I was taking. I would not ever recommend this so called Dr to anyone. A terrible person.

Dr. Tomes listened throughly, He asked detailed questions and was concerned about conditions. He was very friendly and easy to tap to and didn't talk down to me. He did a very thorough examination. He discussed all my symptoms past and present and presented me with options. The care I needed ended up different than services he provides however he did provide me with options had his office immediately set up a referral appointment. Would highly recommend.

Dr. Tomes appeared to be very knowledgable about my condition. He reviewed options with me, but didn't try to talk me into having surgery. I had a herniated disk. I choose to go with surgery, as I had already tried physical therapy, chiropractor, and streroids. I had surgery yesterday, and received immediate relief from my disk issue.

with two quick procedures spaced over five weeks, I had bilateral, carpal-tunnel release. Dr Tomes was reassuring and very capable. I've had excellent result. the entire experience at the SW Surgical Center was terrific.

Why take this survey, I want to know if the patient lived or died, if the surgery was successful or not. Healed or parallelized, where are those questions? This is a spine surgeon!
