Reviews for Dr. Daniel Mark Brown
Dr. Brown and his staff are awesome. Professional and friendly.
I called in to see about getting an appointment and the receptionist had to put me on hold to talk to the Dr. I’ve been having bladder issues and looking into getting another Botox injection however my Dr is no longer offering that service. This is one of the only places in Olympia that offers Botox in the clinic. The receptionist thought she put me on hold however she didn’t. And I heard him say in an angry voice : “send her to Lakewood or refer her back to her original Dr. You know why they aren’t doing Botox? Because they are losing money.” Very hurtful. If you don’t want to do this service, don’t offer it! I’m 39 with bladder issues and I am needing assistance. No one has been able to figure out why I have what I have. And then to hear that was just very hurtful. I called back and told them I heard everything and the receptionist apologized. Dr Brown is one of the best urologists I have known!! He is very most caring doctors you could ask for!! He is there for his patients be it day or night no matter the time. I think very highly of him and would recommend him to anyone I know!!!
Called in to see if I could get in to see Dr Brown because my primary Urologist and Urogynocologist arenât doing Botox in the clinic. After calling around to several places, Dr Brown is one of the few in Olympia that does in clinic Botox in the bladder. The receptionist put me on hold she thought to talk to Dr Brown. I heard him say angrily to the receptionist to refer me back to my dr and that most likely they arenât doing the service anymore because they are losing money on it. He wouldnât even give me a chance to see me. So now Iâm back to square one in finding someone that does Botox in the clinic. I called back to the office later to tell them I heard what he said and how hurtful that was and they apologized.
Dr. Brown diagnosed me with kidney cancer in 7/18. Got a second opinion and surgery was done at Valley Medical. Turned out that the tumor was benign. In May of 2021, he once again diagnosed me with kidney cancer on the other kidney and that he would "open me up right there in the office". I got a second opinion at Valley Medical Urology. It turns out that the surgeon did a partial nephrectomy and saved the kidney. The biopsy was done and it turned out that tumor was benign. Giving Brown even one star exceeds what he deserves. Notice reviews are at both ends of scale, not grouped middle. Having seen Dr. Brown 3 times i completely get why. As we used to say, his "bedside manner" needs some work. HOWEVER... the primary question should be "does he practice good medicine?" The answer to that question, in my opinion, is YES. Is he a counselor/therapist or a urologist? He is a urologist, and in my informed and educated opinion, a VERY GOOD one. Perhaps other Docs can be both... but if your issue is physiologically serious you want your Doc hyper-focused on doing their primary job. I have gotten a bit PO'd at Dr. Brown over his relatively terse and, at times, dismssive demeanor. I think he could do a better job at explaining what is going on and why he is proceeding the way he is... For this reason only i would reduce his rating to 4 stars from 5. A 4.5 rating might be more accurate.
Dr Brown saw my 74 year old husband as a referral from primary care physician. Dr Brown discovered that my poor husband has RARE type kidney stones they only show up on a CT Scan!!! I've been having some scary issues since December 2019, I was finally referred to Dr. Brown and I honestly can't say enough good things about him. He took his time with me and asked many questions no other Dr. had asked. He made me feel like he really cared about me and my health. He recommended a test that would immediately answer some concerns! It all came back good . He also explained to me why I shouldn't be taking some over the counter medication, not just "its not good for you " I honestly wish he was my primary care Dr. . His staff was nice and I really appreciated everyone's kindness. ! I have gone to multiple urologist and Dr. Brown is one of the best yet. Took the time to ask questions and actually wait for an answers. The only negative if I had to choose something was the frustrating conversation with his assistant but it was due to it being very hard to understand them. But not worth giving 4 instead of 5 stars. The receptionist was very welcoming and made sure our safety was taken serious even if I wasn’t thinking about it. Enjoyed talking with her. The nurse was very polite and comforted me when it was time to take out my stent because I hate that part of these. After 50+ total kidney stones, when Dr. Brown said I shouldn’t have more stones with our treatment plan and I believe him. Great doctor and I’m glad I get to call him mine. Staff was professional and nice. Dr. Brown was not. During my 20-minute appointment he was dismissive of my concerns ("my advice is just to forget about it") and even managed to fit in some chauvinism ("what kind of laundry detergent does your wife use." He's a military-trained surgeon and it shows in how he treats his patients.
Dr Brown is very competent urologist and his bedside manner is not to everyone’s liking. He is direct and to the point. I don’t think I would pick him as a drinking buddy, but he is number one with me for his expertise.
Was literally suffering from a kidney stone that due to its size would probably not pass on its own. Therefore, right after leaving Summit Pacific ER, Dr. Brownâs office had a cancellation and squeezed me in. Dr. Brown fully explained my options and procedure. Their office could not have been more accommodating and understanding to my pain.

Excellent all around!
Great staff and physician. Answered all questions.
As my exam by "Dr" Brown progressed he seemed to like me less and less, becoming increasing disrespectful, arrogant, unpleasant and seemed to think I was his subordinate at least acted that way. He recommended a biopsy and gave me no other options. ( the next Dr. gave my 5 options and took the time to explain each one in detail) Had I read his reviews beforehand ( my mistake ) I would have never made an appointment. The fact he has been disciplined by the state would have been enough for me.
The nurse and receptionist were great. Surprise visit from a med student. Neither she nor doctor had reviewed my referral information, new patient info, urine sample, nor bladder ultrasound. Med student pushed a med that the records showed created adverse reactions for me. I had to ask her to look a couple of time get it right. Promotional posters were on the wall for the med she was pushing. She then pushed a non-prescription procedure, again with posters for it adorning the treatment room walls. Later, she and the doctor returned, with him yelling that I refused to discuss my information with the student. Obviously not true, as I discussed the Flomax (adverse medication) with her, discussed urination decrease with glucose reading decrease, etc. He demanded twice that I change my answer to the student, a demand that confused me, so I said I didn't know or want to change anything. AVOID THIS DOCTOR. He's pushing products, not objective medicine!
The nurse and receptionist were great. As I waited a long time in the treatment room, a medical student came in. I wasn't OK with that, had they asked. Med Student had not reviewed the file. There had not been time to test the urine sample or review the bladder ultrasound. Med student then asked questions that were covered in the referral papers and the new patient info. Med student then pushed a medication I previously reacted to. Happened to be the med (FloMax) that had sponsored posters on the walls. I told the student I thought that was the med that made me dizzy and unstable for 4-5 days. She then opened the file, read the info backwards and said I reacted in October to Finasteride. She had it backwards. I asked her to look again, and she then stated reacted to FloMax and was now on Finasteride. I told her the Finasteride was tried years ago. She then concluded it must have worked. (wrong conclusion). She then asked me if I was interested in a non-prescription procedure (there were also marked-up sponsored posters for Urologix (cooled thermography). So, I was offered an adverse medication AND thermography via a surprise conversation with a med student before I even met the doctor, and before they reviewed the ultrasound and urine sample. RED ALERT! This looks more like a sponsored product promotion center than an objective medical evaluation site. The doctor later came in and literally started the conversation by yelling at me for not discussing anything with the student. (see discussion above). He told me if I did not immediately change my answer to his student, I would not be his patient. I told him I discussed what was not in the charts and some things in the charts. He repeated his yelled demand that I change my answer. I told him I did not understand the problem and did not know what to change. The receptionist was sympathetic and apologetic as I left. I suspect she has seen this movie before.
Was signed up for a bunch of very uncomfortable procedures so he could tell me “I don’t know what’s going on but there’s another guy I know who’s better with this stuff” 2 weeks of pain and $500 later it turned out to be a benign skin condition. Thanks for your “professional medical advice” glad I had to pay so much for a simple referral. Doctor Brown could not provide help for my symptoms, and was incredibly unsympathetic towards my issue. I do have a difficult issue as two other urologists also couldn't help me. My primary Doctor saw I was still having issues so I was referred to Dr. Brown as a last hope because he was supposed to be very good. He was incredibly impatient. He tried to cut off the appointment early as he was too busy and was not transparent about charges. I would recommend Dr. Brown to zero of my friends and all of my enemies. Staff and nurses were very nice and courteous. Dr. Brown acted as though I was wasting his time by even being there. He tried to tell me my pain wasn't where I said it was. Then told me there was nothing anyone could do for except prescribe opiates. Very disappointed since I waited for 2 weeks to see him and he spent a whopping 5 min with me to tell me my pain was in a different spot than it actually is.

Dr. Brown has been a really good urologist. He has helped me with a decade long health problem. He took time to assuage my fears with off-topic & offbeat conversation. He seemed honestly disappointed that our first treatment wasn't our last because he hoped that I had felt better and needed only one visit. That is nice to experience. It is a busy office, but the administration is wonderful. And they scheduled me quickly with urgent conditions and walked me through the insurance..

Dr. Brown is highly professional and exceptionally caring to his patients. The staff are warm and kind and the office ambiance very comfortable. The only thing negative I can mention is during winter months and/or early spring the waiting room is a bit chilly. I will definitely recommend Dr. Brown to everyone needing a top urologist.

No accountability for confusion about what procedure was scheduled. They tried to blame me for thier mistake. Rude nurse. I would not trust them with your body.

I've been Dr. Brown's patient for 6 years. With each appointment I am always reminded of the excellent care I receive from this very caring physician and his staff. I went for my annual check up this afternoon and I am very grateful for Doc' Brown's knowledge, skill, and professionalism. He listens, shows appropriate concern, and keeps me informed as to what I must to do to maintain my health.

Dr Brown is an excellent doctor. I rate him superior. He gets down to business and is skilled in diagnosis and treatment. Thanks to his skill he found that I had prostate cancer which was then treated and cured. I owe a great deal to Dr. Brown.
