Excellent!! Dr.Lena was very prompt, on time and very thorough in explaining his diagnosis. He was very patient and listened to all my concerns and answered all questions I had. I had planned for an hour long visit but was done within half an hour. Absolutely would recommend Dr.Lena !!!

I am no stranger to orthopedic doctors as was diagnosed with JRA age 3 onset, therefore I believe my experience as a patient should carry some weight. First and foremost Dr Lena immediately puts you at ease as only a master can! He listens to your concerns, respects the information you share and brilliantly identifies your issue. He is one of the rare ones - I recommend him highly without reservation!

Office well organized and Dr. Lena was prompt and courteous. He answered my questions so I understood my condition.

Dr. Lena did some X-rays. But when I described what the issue was with my shoulder he ordered a MRI!

The staff was very professional and friendly. There was no waiting and everything ran so smoothly. It was a completely pleasant experience.

Registration staff are friendly and efficient. Dr Lena was informative and explained everything perfectly while showing me my images. I would not hesitate in recommending this group to anyone!

Went to see Dr. Lena for a shoulder injury from a few months ago. In looking at the x-rays he was very thorough in showing me what was going on and what was causing my pain. He also gave me three choices on how to move forward with treatment. I like choices. I'm confident that if the choice I made does not work to my satisfaction I will be able to try another one. I would recommend he to anyone that has a shoulder injury.

I am very happy with my first visit to Dr. Lena's office. The staff wis kind & knowledgeable. Dr. Lena himself was very nice and reassuring. I am getting a shoulder replacement surgery in February. I waited approximately 15 minutes before being seen. I'm okay with a 15 minute wait.

With a family history of Arthritis issues the pain level in my shoulder had reached a threshold of pain over 6 months that I would liken to a sliver embedded under a finger nail that couldn't be removed...It was keeping me from sleeping so I resolved myself to bucking up and going into Dr. Lena who I have never met. He was no nonsense professional who was gracious and knowledgeable as he walked me through what he was seeing in the diagnoses and recommended next steps. By the time I left the parking lot the pain was considerably less. I'm now a fan. +

This doctor spent less than 5 minutes with me. He clearly decided he wasn't going to get to do an interesting surgery and dismissed me. He did not answer any questions, and I am not confident he spent enough time with me to even understand my symptoms. This is the worst bedside manner I have seen, and I have been to many doctors recently. Find another doc.

He operated on me for a supposedly routine surgery, I had a serious complication and he basically refused to listen and blamed me for not doing well. When he finally reoperated he left me with an unstable joint without any reasonable course of action. In fact every time I spoke with him he recommended something different. He is arrogant and self serving and a really poor physician....I believe his major concern is money not patient care and he should not be taking care of patients.

I was sent there to see Dr. Lena for a workers compensation evaluation after my surgery. My arm was elevated and forced straight up quickly by doctor Lena and the rotor cuff was twisted slightly by hand, was painful i stated to the doctor expressly when I started to lower my arm down. Still have pain in my shoulder even more so from this doctor . My diagnosis from Dr. Lena that was told to me , he can see where this is going and he's all done. Was referred to Doctor Lena by one of his colleagues I had heard a lot of good things about him from friends that had surgery performed by Doctor Lena.. This was my first visit with him regarding my shoulder and he explained in detail regarding shoulder surgery and that I did not need shoulder surgery ASAP. Instead gave me a cortisone shot and my shoulder is feeling better already . I do need a partial replacement done down the road and have no problem having Dr Lena perform the surgery was very impressed by him. Horrible! I went in for shoulder pain due to a fall had X-Rays and told me it was frozen shoulder and sent me for PT, I told him my shoulder felt different than Frozen Shoulder he sent me for an MRI and bet it was frozen shoulder I went back to see him to review my MRI scan he used his powerful medical terms told him please explain in lame terms he said you have a tear and because you can't move it it's developed to Frozen Shoulder and said I was not surgery indicated and released me for PT what for the tear to become more extensive and then you will perform surgery he was happy when I said that I also told him he lost his bet b/c he thought it was just a frozen shoulder he walked out and said I am sorry you are feeling this way but I can't help you.. horrible bed side manner and very cocky!

One of the most polite, professional and inviting Dr's offices I've been to lately. Immediately took me in, repaired my shoulder, feel great and so far ???? in my book! Highly recommended!

I think he the best Dr I have ever been to for my shoulder. He listens very well and offers solutions. I went to him over 10 years ago for should surgery after another Dr did not do it correctly. I had a total Shoulder Replacement on August 9th 2019 and at first I was really dreading having to go thru with it, but it came to a point where I had to get it done! Dr Lena really set me at ease and showed me the new Shoulder Replacement Technology on his Tablet and assured that it was not going to be a big deal, and that the surgery is very standard nowadays. Sure enough it was same day surgery and I was back home the same day! They prepped me up for surgery and the next thing you know I woke up in recovery and I was all done with it! Its great to have my shoulder back and its really amazing what they can do nowadays! I would highly recommend Dr. Lena and his team to anyone considering having this Surgery as they are outstanding! I was in severe pain in my shoulder and they took me in quickly There was calcium in my shoulder and he quickly improved my pain He is the best

I read the other reviews before going there but decided to give it a shot since I was tired of being in pain. Dr. Lena practically came into the room talking, using clinical terms the average person wouldn’t know or understand. He showed me the mri results, asked me one question; where the pain is. I showed him and he recommended I do deep tissue massage on the area using a tennis ball and sent me on my way. He was in the room less than 5 minutes out of which he spent most of the time talking instead of listening. I gave him 1 star because he obviously doesn’t care to figure out what my problem is. I’m sure he is intelligent enough to do it, he just chose not to. So he simply brushed me off, which was very frustrating. I recommend waiting to get into someone that actually cares about their patients, even if you have to wait a few weeks. Great overall experience. I knew everything that was going on and made a quick recovery.

Had a wonderful experience having 2 partial knee replacements (robotic sutgery) after I was told by the local orthopedic surgeons in Springfield that they could basically do nothing and that I had have to wait for my knees to deteriorate further before they would do a knee replacement. I would have suffered for years more and then they would have decided my knees had worn down enough. But doctor Lena gave me hope. I had very fast recovery time after the operations (3 months apart) . It was an "in-and-out" the same day affair. The recovery time was relatively fast getting back to normal walking took several months but it was a lot easier than a full knee replacement and I was able to get it done and covered by insurance. I recently had surgery with Dr. Lena to repair my shoulder. I had been in pain for two years. Dr. Lena has an excellenet bedside manner and is very knowledgeable. He and his staff made me feel very comfortable before and after my surgery. I would recommend this doctor to anyone looking for an orthopedic surgeon.

I rarely do reviews, but in light of the negative reviews written here, I felt it necessary to relate my experiences with Dr. Lena. Dr. Lena and his PA, Jim Alvarez are 2 of the most compassionate and educated doctors I have ever had the pleasure of being associated with. My husband, my mother and I have been patients of theirs on several occasions over the years. I have never had a bad experience with this group. I've had the unfortunate experience of having broken leg bones, a torn rotator cuff and am now scheduled for torn meniscus surgery. My previous two surgeries have gone off without a hitch resulting in a complete recovery and absolutely no residual pain and I am no spring chicken! Dr. Lena saw my mother as a 2nd opinion when she was having shoulder issues and instead of suggesting surgery he advised her she could work through it with exercise. This was in direct opposition to her first doctor's suggestion and she was indeed able to work through it with exercise. My husband has been in many times with knee problems and they have always gone with a conservative approach until it no longer became possible to treat him with non-surgical procedures. Unfortunately, Dr. Lena does not do total knee replacements or my husband would be going to him for his surgery. I would also like to say that as a PA, Jim is one of the best I have ever dealt with. He is extremely knowledgeable and always spends a long time explaining the dynamics of my injuries and what my options are. I find him very compassionate and willing to answer any questions I have. Although, I do not see Dr. Lena as often as Jim, he is also very knowledgeable, compassionate and definitely takes the time to answer my questions. I also appreciate that he is very conservative with suggesting surgery and that it is always a last resort. I completely disagree with the reviewer stating that Dr. Lena was uncomfortable performing his shoulder surgery. Dr. Lena is extremely competent and only performs the surgeries that are his specialty. The reviewer related many different and confusing scenarios in his review, which have never been my experience with Dr. Lena, Jim or his office staff. Let me just say this, the best doctors are ALWAYS booked up. It's just a fact of life in this day and age and expecting a Dr. or PA to spend more than 15 minutes with you during an office visit is just plain unreasonable. Dr. Lena came into the room talking, using clinical terms the average person wouldn’t know or understand. He showed me the mri results, asked me one question, offered a ridiculous suggestion (deep tissue massage with a tennis ball... really!?). He was in the room less than 5 minutes out of which he spent most of the time talking instead of listening. Take it from me... go to someone who actually cares about their patients.

One of the worst places to go. The PA James is very rude and does not listen to other opinions you have gotten from other doctors. The doctors here are a joke!

when i first called to make appt i was having problems with both arms,which is the reason i called...i was told dr lena didnt do shoulder replacement but i didnt even know what was wrong..made the appt and red flag #1, they told me appt was for left shoulder, i told them on phone both shoulders but left was worse..so after much ado i was sent for xray and i got attitude from xray tech cause it was supposed only left arm..saw dr lena briefly and he told me it was arthritis and i was candidate for replacement,red flag#2,he told me he did do replacements, i was devastated and thought i would get some advice and opinions of how to proceed, but i guess my 15 min was up and i was rushed out..they collect your co-pay and file claim and expect youll make another appt, ka-ching ka-ching.had tons of questions so i called back to make appt and it was suggested to make with jim, the PA..went to see him , he answered some questions and after 15 min he told me "i needed to move on with my questions cause he had other patients to see"very nice..at that time i was set up for ct scan ..so made another appt for results to find out this problem was more complicated and dr lena described the surgical approach he would take..red flag #3, lots of inconsistencies in answers between jim and dr lena..went up front to schedule surgery and was told dr lena had no op room time available at hartford hospital..i was in severe pain and my arm was getting worse- no one cared, was told they would call me when date became available..weeks went by and heard nothing, i even had called couple of times to check, still nothing..i finally went to another dr who was excellent and extremely experienced in replacements they got me right in and and he told me that had dr lena taken the surgical approach he described that it wouldnt have held and it would have come out, all in all i guess it was fate on my side that nothing transpired from dr lenas office... however i always got the feeling dr lena wasnt comfortable doing this surgery i feel he should have been professional and let me know that up front and perhaps referred to someone more experienced in this particular area..i finally got a message from dr lenas office 4 months later..red flag#4 when i called back it took them over 2 hours to find out who called me and why..for a dr who is supposed to be be affiliated with hartford hospital its strange he could not get a surgery date sooner than 4 months and no other dr had ever heard of that..all in all a very bad experience and will never go back..this seems like more about money and how many patients they squeeze in than patient care and will continue to share this experience when i first called to make appt i was having problems with both arms,which is the reason i called...i was told dr lena didnt do shoulder replacement but i didnt even know what was wrong..made the appt and red flag #1, they told me appt was … More

I had a hip labral repair done by Dr. Lena & dealing with his staff - Anne Marie & Karen - was the biggest medical nightmare I've ever experienced in my life. They scheduled my surgery so I filled out medical leave paperwork for work & took time off. A week before my surgery no one even bothered to call me so I phoned in to be told they had "forgotten to put it in the computer." EVERY step of the way was a struggle like this & i switched surgeons so I'll never have to deal with his staff again!!

While Dr Lena may not be as personable as other physicians I had a partial knee replacement that was perfectly done and that is what’s important to me. His PA Paul is excellent and when I had Nerve issues they were very attentive and took me very seriously. The office staff is great and I never waited long for my appointments.

I can't even begin to tell you how upset I am and now that I am reading other reviews, I see I am not alone. I have a tear in my hip that likely happened 4 months ago (I'm in my early 20s). Today, I can hardly walk and the pain is agonizing. I was desperate for help. He went over my MRI using terminology I did not understand, handed me pamphlets, and basically showed me the door. I actually went after him continuing to ask my questions. His overall suggestion? Foam rolling, call back in a month.

Worst doctor I have seen in a long time! I went to his office on several occasions. The first time he told me to stretch and I would be fine. The next time I went, I had to beg him for a cortisone shot. I had an MRI and he didn't find a tear. He told me to continue to stretch. I went to another Doctor who did find the tear. He rushes you and spends no time with you. Would never recommend him.

A good surgeon but will not remember who you are or take the time to actually talk and listen to you. Had several surgeries hip and knee with this practice and doc to each time be told I needed a procedure that they refused to do. Left this group to go to another doc who would actually listen to what patients want and need. The wait times were always long and it feels like he is pusheong from patient to patient just to get everyone seen.

VERY unsatisfied. I heard rave reviews and was excited to meet a great doctor. Unfortunately, he was not as interested. I told him that at age 28 I had been having bad knee pain every day for 10 years. He told me the surgery I had 5 years ago was useless, & he gave me a knee brace for ONE knee (no instructions). I continued to ask questions about next steps, shoes that would help, exercises to do, and Dr. Lena walked out of the exam before I could even finish my sentence...
