He has also recently performed a fusion surgery on my husband. He is also pain-free since the surgery and we are both so glad to have him as our surgeon. Dr. Kager performed a lumbar laminectomy in 2019; pain returned 5 months later. Dr. Kager performed a posterior lumbar interbody fusion in 2020. Pain did not go away. Dr. Kager told me there had been some shifting and suggested I see his colleague Dr. Hernandez. Dr. Hernandez informed me that half of my screws were loose & sent me for scoliosis x-rays. I never heard from Dr. Hernandez again. When I called the office to complain about no follow-up I then rec'd a call from a Penn Medicine concierge that Dr. Kager has now referred me to another doctor in Phila., who, after meeting with him, suggested I have the screws and rods removed, which I did in 2021. I agree with other reviewers about the 3 minute appointments with Dr. Kager. Never once did he say "Do you have any questions?" I found him to be curt and abrupt. After the 3 minute appointments, he would stand up and the appt. was over. After my 2 original unsuccessful surgeries I still have lower back pain, but I have decided to live with it. No more back surgeries for me!

very disappointing, because of high level of pain i went to the ER and after we done the DR said the Neurologist office will call you in the morning and they suppose to move up the surgery but when they called the assistant left me a voice mail said sorry we cancelled your surgery , go see second opinion. First of all I want to thank Doc. Kager for taking care of my back. I am able to manage the pain the day after surgery with just taking Tylenol and I up and walking around much to my surprise. I would recommend if you have problems with your Back go see Doc Kager

Very professional and knowledgeable. He tells you what to expect. I have had 3 spine surgeries and he did all of them. I have recommended him to multiple people who also have needed spine surgeries.

Dr. Kager is very rude, abrasive and lacks any compassion. We saw Dr. Kager for all of 90 seconds and I'm sure he will bill insurance for office visit which it wasn't. The staff however is very kind and helpful.

I had a double lumbar fusion done about a year and a half ago and I'm very pleased with my outcome.

I am a 75 year old women who have had lower back surgery twice now do to degenerated disks which pinched sciatic nerve. Dr. Kager was highly recommended. Dr. Kager took the time to explain procedures to me and was empathetic about my injury from a car accident. His assistant is attentive and on the ball when it comes to my needs and questions. I praise him for his services and caring, professional manner!

While he was quite enthusiastic when he entered the room that was about all that was good. Dr. Kager is the Chief of Nuerosurgery at Lancaster General Health Penn Medicine in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. I read his reviews before going to see him and was hoping my experience would be different then what the reviews said. But alas the reviews were correct. Dr. Kager was in the room with me for all of three minuets. He walked in and stated, "He knew a lot about me and that he would not take on my case as it was not urgent." He briefly showed me my MRI results which did show abnormalities. He did not ask what any of my symptoms were, if they had gotten better or worse, how I injured myself at work, what I had done in order to help the healing process, if the pain had gotten worse since the accident due to the fact I was not put in a brace, or anything else for that matter. Not enough room to finish the review.

I too felt railroaded, and felt like they new the truth about my condition but wouldn’t let me in on it?They talked me out of treatment, I was pursuing a lawsuit so possibly this is why? I could keep going . Very traumatizing and bizarre treatment and behavior by surgeon. I’m sure he’s a good surgeon but now I need psychological help from weird doctors . Dr. Kager absolutely changed my life! I had had increasing back pain in my lower back for upwards of 5 years. Years ago I saw OSS in york and they immediately wanted to do surgery. At the time i was only about 32 (35 now) and wasnt ready for something like that. I had heard horror stories about spinal fusion surgeries and it terrified me. I was in pain, but managing and i was scared to make things worse so young. I really should have done my research better, because over the years the pain reached the level of constant agony. But i'm also glad I didn't. I finally accepted that I needed surgery and began my search for a great surgeon. Dr. Kager came up over and over again. So many success stories with the only real complaint I saw frequently was issues with friendliness and bed side manner. Well I wasnt looking for a friend, I was looking for the best. At my first appointment almost immediately after he walked in i knew i was the in the right place. He was very kind, but very to the point and i walked out of what most would think was a short appointment feeling completely confident and ready to do this. I had to have an L4-S1 fusion. I am 3 weeks post op and i feel absolutely INCREDIBLE. i'm still a bit sore in the incision site but every single bit of pain I had before my surgery is completely gone. I went off narcotic pain killers after 10 days and only tylenol in the morning as a preventative measure because i'm just not in pain. The first morning I woke up after being off all pain meds...I woke up without back pain, or nerve pain in my hips. I sat up in my bed without crying or struggling and I stood up easily and straight up. And I actually did cry, but only because it was the first time since I could remember that it didn't hurt. His staff is absolutely amazing. Friendly and understanding, answering all of my questions any time I had them. I highly recommend Dr. Kager... he changed my life and i more grateful than i can say!! Dr. Kager operated on me about 11 years ago and gave me 'my life' back! Following the surgery I went to his physical therapy program and continue to do those exercises daily. I found him to be a very caring and competent physician. He was straight forward and yet sensitive to the patient's situation. Since then I have recommended him to a variety of people who have had successful surgeries under his care.

On November 8th 2019, I had a multi- level lumbar fusion done by Dr. Kager. Everything went well after surgery, his office was prompt with returning phone calls and prescribing medications. At my 3 month appointment is when my dislike for Dr. Kager began. The appointment lasted about 3 minutes. He did not want to here about some of the questions I had about going back to work too soon ( I drive tractor trailer, so I sit up to 9 hours a day, and must be able to lift 60 lbs to unload the trailer). Both physical therapy and my work thought I was going back to work before I should be, since I was only lifting 10 lbs at P. T. and still having issues with standing and sitting for long periods of time. He grudgingly gave me an extra 3 weeks to recover, but my main complaint with him was the statement that “everyone would like to be off work for a year” I went back to work on March 2, 2020 (4 months post-op) and still have problems lifting the required weight and sitting.

I have had 2 surgeries with Dr Kager. He and his assistant are amazing medical professionals. This office functions at the top of it's ability and yet is friendly and easy to relate to. I would highly recommend to anyone who needs this kind of care.

Dr. Kager is a wonderful surgeon. Had a spinal fusion (4 ) and all pain down leg and pins and needles in foot/leg are gone. Lived with this pain and tried everything else 1st for over 5 years. My family Dr. said Kager is the Dr. the other Dr. will go to.

After abusing my back as an auto tech for over 30 years I developed back pain, had pain on and off for over 3 years, had shooting pain down the left leg and finally had enough. Saw Dr Kager and he confirmed 2 herniated disks. Had surgery done by Dr Kager and left the surgery center pain free. Dr Kager performed back surgery on me and I can not give him enough praise. After 3 years of pain I am now completely pain free. He is GREAT I would do it again if he was the surgeon. Thank you Dr Kager and his wonderful staff.

What a gifted surgeon! I would highly recommend him and his team for your needs. I questioned going to him do to some reviews saying how he has no bed side manor but the final line is He’s the best, and if you want someone working on your spine, you want the best, and Dr Kager is the best. To those who complain all I can say is that He’s a surgeon, not your caregiver, he’s not there to hold your hands and promise you rainbows & lollipops. Don’t make a mistake and see anyone else!!!!! The place sucks. Dr. Kager railroaded me. Didn’t even ask me questions or do an exam! I explained to the people why I was there and his first words were who referred you for surgery. No one. I don’t know if I need surgery yet as I don’t have updated imagining! He told me he was a surgeon. That was it. He looked at four year old scans and said he couldn’t do anything because I wasn’t in pain. Which I am in pain! It’s not terrible but it’s there. I have numbness and tingling and pain and these insane vibrations that won’t stop in my neck! I can’t get anyone to do some basic damn imagining! He referrred me to family doctor which is useless. They told me to see a neurologist and couldn’t order scans for some stupid reason! This place came highly recommended but it was a terrible experience. He didn’t care about even trying to help me! I wasn’t an immediate surgery so I wasn’t his problem. He mention being referred to a physiatrist which they have in the office at that location but he didn’t put in a referral! Then I find out he left notes for my doctor to get imagining!!! Hellooo! That’s why I went to him! Why couldn’t he order the scans?! It was ridiculous. I couldn’t ask a single question or get a word in. I felt rushed and railroaded. They took my money and booted me and I have been waiting three weeks just to see him on top of dealing with this pain and issues since July! NOT HAPPY! Don’t waste your time! The place sucks. Do. Kager performed my surgery 10 years ago. Only a year later, one of the screws in my fusion was coming out (shown on X-ray). I put off contacting his office until recent X-ray's showed the screw has come out 7mm. I was having intense pain, hence the reason for the X-ray's. I've also had an MRI done. My neck is a mess. I was extremely disappointed when I contacted his office for a consultation and was denied because I have state insurance (a plan that he does accept) and live in Chester County. I was having serious upper leg pain and surgery was recommended by Dr. Kager. I had the surgery on a Tuesday afternoon and was discharged Tuesday Evening. If you follow the doctors and staff directions for recovery you should do well. It was a lifestyle change on some daily functions but I got through it and I am currently walking without pain in my legs. Sure it may take some time to get back to a normal routine like biking and hiking but all good things take time!

Dr Kager is always pleasant and on time. He gets right to the problem. No unnecessary chit chat. The results of both my cervical fusion and lumbar fusions are terrific. The pain was gone immediately in both cases. We are blessed to have surgeons of this caliber in Lancaster County. Thanks, Doc!

Dr. Kager performed my cervical spine surgery 10 years ago. I was back in his office 3 months post-op with pain. A year later X-ray's showed one of the screws coming out. This past year I have had X-ray's, 3 mris, & a CT scan. The screw is now in my throat and it appears the bones never fused. I called his office to schedule a consultation and they refused because I have state insurance (that they accept) but live in Chester County, in Honey Brook (about 45 mins away).

I loved Dr. Kager! His personality is professional and kind. He took the perfect amount of time to explain his decision and why, was so sweet to my little girl (who came with me.) He seemed appreciative of all the work I had done prior to seeing him, and I respect him as a neurosurgeon! This man is a good doctor! :)

I would scarcely recommend Kager to my worst enemy, never mind to a family member or friend. You are a number, not a person at Lancaster NeuroScience. You are shuttled thru the process like so much chattel, but at least you get a T-shirt. (Yeah, really.) If this is what surgeons have become in this country, then I am very disheartened. I saw this guy for all of 8 minutes for pre-surgical consult BUT DID NOT see or talk to him afterward. My next app't w/ him is in about a month. Yay. Do not use!!

Dr. Kager is confident and compassionate. Some people have called him arrogant, but I think that is off the mark. He obviously stays on top of developments in his field. I cannot imagine the pressure of rearranging someone's nervous system and playing legos with their spinal cord. Dr. Kager clearly knows the significance of what he is doing, and he stays on top of his game so that he can do it.
