Dr. Charles Michael Ruland

If you have an opportunity to see another orthopedic surgeon I would highly recommend this. You will without a doubt, receive better treatment, care and concern for your injury. Dr. Ruland is rough with patients, he’s impatient rude and hostile. I went to see Dr. Ruland three times and each time he unfriendly and talked at me. I wasn’t allowed to ask questions or discuss anything I had concerns about. I asked him a question - why he did not use ultrasound when providing a steroid injection which is standard practice at other orthopedic surgeons offices so that they can precisely hit the right location on your shoulder and he lashed out in such an angry and aggressive fashion trying to intimidate me. He said that he knew where my bone was and he didn’t need an ultrasound and that the ultrasound cost hundreds of dollars. I would gladly pay the money to ensure that the injection was going to the right location versus guessing. I’ve had three Cortizone shots in my shoulder and only one slightly worked which I think is evidence that an ultrasound guided injection is needed. I also asked him for an MRI because he made a visual inspection of what my issue was before having an x-ray and determined a diagnosis without any diagnostic imaging being performed. This is highly concerning and also not the standard of care I’ve previously received from orthopedic practitioners. If you want to be treated with respect, Care, concern and modern techniques do yourself a favor and go to another office and physician for care. Don’t waste your time with this guy. From my visits with Dr. Roland I observed that he wants to talk at you, down to you, has anger and control issues if asked a question. He’ll respond, “I have been doing this for 29 years, I know what I’m doing!!” I even said to him, “I should be allowed to ask these questions about my care.”His response was startling with the level of anger was like nothing I’ve seen before with a physician. After seeing Dr. Garth Smith for years and just loving him, I thought all the doctors there would be the same. This was the worst and most rudest doctor I have ever seen. Bluffed me off and just said I had arthritis in the knee. Went to another doctor and found out I had a torn meniscus needing surgery! Disgrace to be a doctor.

Dr. Ruland and the entire office staff was wonderful. He answered my endless questions and explained in detail the surgery and recovery process. I thought he was wrong on the recovery process (too short), but he was spot on. The office staff handled my issues from my work place with ease and efficiency.

Absolutely recommend! This week I scheduled two appointments- both extremely timely and convenient. Same day appointments! All my interactions with him and his team were more than favorable. Not happy to have an injury but thrilled at the fast and courteous care I’ve received. Thank you!

I would recommend Dr. Charles Ruland for anyone having a shoulder problem. I had a really bad tear on my right shoulder and Dr. Ruland completely repaired my shoulder. I'm so happy with him.

My mom is 84 and needs a knee replacement. He reviewed her X-ray and told her that she had severe arthritis in that knee and was bone on bone. Orthascopic surgery was not an option. Then was very rough with her knee during the exam and then told us he doesn’t do knee replacements his brother Lou does. Worst manners I’ve seen in a doctor that would treat a older person that cannot walk on that leg. Very arrogant! My mom is 84 and needs a knee replacement. Doctor Charles rocked my world. Rotator cuff surgery 10 years ago. It's stood the test of time. Photos after the surgery were interesting too.. doc does some pretty fancy knitting. I'll always be greatful that I ended up in capable hands with that surgery.

I have seen Dr. Rutland and his partners for a knee, shoulder and hip issues. I was recently injured in a car accident and his office said he won’t see me because it is associated with a car accident. I am very disappointed. My family has been his customers for almost 20 years.

Dr. Charles Ruland successfully performed complex shoulder surgery on me two years ago. The injuries accumulated over time. My results exceed the most ambitious expectations. My surgically repaired shoulder has more strength and flexibility than the other one. I am very thankful to have found Dr. Charles Ruland and the AAOS rehab team. Dr. Ruland is very professional & informative. He takes time with his patient's & makes you feel comfortable and at ease. He listens to your concerns, address the issue & offers solutions.

Dr. Charles Ruland and the entire staff are excellent. Very caring and a fun staff too. First visit was my knee, second was my foot, thirds visit was to see how both injuries were doing. Overall the staff and Dr. Ruland are exceptional.

The Doc was straight forward with what had to be done and explained what was going to take place during the operation and what the recook time would be. I like too that is appointments we pretty close to the time requested.

I am thankful to have found Dr. Ruland. What I thought to be a rotator tear turned into a biceps tendon tear along with a SLAP tear. Doc carefully explained the procedures and possibilities, and he was very clear in what to expect concerning recovery time. The scars from my incisions are hardly visible, unlike others from my dermatologist. Very clean. Recovery followed exactly as suggested. I highly recommend Dr. Ruland. Remember you help him by putting your effort into physical therapy!

Dr. Ruland performed shoulder surgery on both my husband and myself. We both were very pleased with the results of those procedures and with Dr. Ruland. At all times, he listened to us, took the time to explain the procedure, and made sure we were progressing properly afterwards. We highly recommend Dr. Ruland.

Today was my first time in the office. I had no problems getting an appointment, I scheduled the day before. Dr. Ruland was friendly, responsive to my questions and forthcoming with details to educate and inform me of my condition with my knee. It was also convenient for them to have xray facility on-site, so that he could quickly diagnose my issue without back-and-forth visits. All in all I was pleased with my visit but had what I believe to be a weird response to the cortisone shot in my knee.

I have had three injuries, each resulting in a rotator cuff repair. From diagnosis to surgery, Dr. Ruland provided a very comprehensive approach to each phase. He is an extremely talented, competent and qualified professional. Above all, he respects and listens to you. He has an excellent "bedside" manner. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Ruland was very good at communicating, and was very timely in treating my knee. The staff was very helpful and physical therapy is right in his Annapolis office.

Dr. Charles Ruland ordered the tests needed to give an accurate diagnosis, he has been very thorough, takes the time to answer questions, set follow-up appointments to assess my progress after a series of physical therapy appointments. He explained in layman's terms what was going on with me medically.

I have a knee injury possible torn meniscus. Said they have to review by the Dr's first before making an appointment. I received a call back that they would not take me as a patient with no explanation. Thought it was a workmans comp case which it was not I explained. They didn't even see my referral from primary Dr or even ask what the reason was. I have great insurance. I called back my primary and said not to refer that office anymore. I've found a much better office to see and ratings.
