We have been patients of Dr. Edwards for 3 years now. We could not get better care (we tried before finding him) in Charlotte. The entire staff is wonderful and this practice is as much for the caregiver as for the patient. They take insurance but there is an annual fee that is out of pocket. This fee covers many things the insurance does not cover. In the first place, where can you go in this area and have as much time as one needs, to see the doctor. There is someone to answer questions, and respond when needed. They also teach a class, once a year, that last several weeks. This class is open to all caregivers in the practice. It teaches everything one needs to know about the disease, resources in the community, how to handle behaviors of the patient, and what to expect as the disease progresses. Dr. Edwards conducted heart surgery on my father in 2008. Due to a mistake in surgery he went back in and Dr. told my mother that he would be fine and not to worry. He survived surgery but Dr. Edwards delay in recognizing internal bleeding caused his organs to shut down. After 7 days, my father passed away. Dr. Edwards said to me at that time, it had been 2 years since he lost a patient. What an egotistical response to a situation that could be caught with proper medical care. Unacceptable!!!

I just called Dr. Edwards office to schedule a follow up appointment with my aunts neurologist Dr. Chaconas. After scheduling the appointment I was told by the admin Kim that the annual fee of $600 had to be paid. I told her that we were going to ask for a referral at the December appointment because the charge was too much. Kim immediately responded and said that my aunt could not come in for the follow up without paying the $600 fee and committing to another year with the practice. My aunt had her 1st visit in Nov 2016 and therefore should cover her to Nov of 2017. She had an October appointment scheduled but we had to cancel. Theoretically the Doctor should honor her last follow up visit but that is not happening. This practice is not about patient care it is about $$$. This is the only practice that my aunt deals with that bills her after every visit. She has had emergency room visits, primary care visits, etc... and what is not covered by Medicare is covered by her secondary insurance. THIS IS THE ONLY PRACTICE that charges an out of pocket fee on top of the $600 annual. Really disappointed in their conduct and lack of patient care... My husband is Dr. Edwards' patient, and I'd like to say that our lives changed as a family when we had our first appointment. He is kind, caring, knowledgeable, genuine and more. I have consistently recommended him to friends in similar situations, and I know of at least one who has brought her Mother there. .Everyone going through these dreaded diseases should be so lucky as to have this experience with him and his staff.
