Avoid this doctor at all costs. Rude, uncaring, and lazy staff will not even try to work with you. To all medical "professionals" like Dr. Fischer: your indifference is killing people. Just leave the medical industry if you don't actually care about patients' well-being. You exemplify everything that is wrong with the US healthcare system in 2023.

She wouldn’t see me because I am too old. Disappointing, since I had a wonderful doctor at this practice. He is older than me, now retired. Now I don’t know where to go for help.

This doctor refused to see me because I am “too old” . Not because of the insurance. I am on Aetna. I have never before been refused services because of my age. You know what, lady? Some day you will be old too. How would you like it if your mother was dismissed in this way?

My wife Sarah Postell has been struggling with back pain for over 10 years. Sarah’s back problems had gotten so severe that she started walking bent over. She complained many times to doctors that her back felt broken, but they did not listen. I eventually started researching the best orthopedic hospitals in NYC and discovered NYU Langone Health was on the list. I was overwhelmed because I did not know which spine surgeon I would feel comfortable selecting to perform the surgery for my wife. I took my time reading each surgeon's profile (about me section). Out of the many profiles that I read, Dr. Charla R. Fischer stood out because she mentioned that accompanying her father, who was a doctor as a child, and seeing him help people was when she became interested in studying medicine. Once I read Dr. Fischer’s history, I knew she would be the doctor who would help my wife. My wife and I met with Dr. Fischer to evaluate my wife and to let us know that my wife was a candidate for spinal surgery. Dr. Fischer was very professional, compassionate, and respectful. She took the time to explain the spinal procedure in detail. She made my wife feel comfortable, relaxed, and hopeful. Dr. Fischer performed the spinal surgery on June 21, 2021, which was a Monday. My wife was discharged 3 days later to go home. Thanks to Dr. Fischer’s healing hands for giving my wife her life back. Before the surgery, she was home for many years, unable to shop, walk around town, and enjoy life like a normal person. She walked bent over and suffered from back and nerve pain. Sarah can now enjoy a better quality of life and do the things she enjoys without pain, and she is walking upright and tall, no longer bent over after surgery. Dr. Fischer is very humble, cares for, and listens to her patients, and loves to help. Her humility and driven passion to help my wife has given me hope because most of the doctors with whom my wife had previously come into contact with before being blessed to meet Dr. Fischer lacked compassion or empathy for their patients. At my first job, I used to work. I had a god-sent supervisor who would always say they don’t make them any more when referring to a good human being on earth. I will now say that Dr. Fishcher is a God-sent angel on earth. They don't make them anymore. If you ever come into contact with Dr. Charla R. Fischer, who is an NYU Langone orthopedic surgeon, consider yourself lucky, blessed, fortunate, or graced. I highly recommend Dr. Fischer because I have witnessed her successfully repair my wife's spine. It's been almost 9 months and my wife is very happy again, enjoying life, walking, standing upright with good posture, and no more back pain. Please give yourself the experience you so deserve by visiting Dr. Fischer's office and letting the healing begin. My wife Sarah Postell has been struggling with back pain for over 10 years. (Revision Posting) She made me feel at ease. I was nervous since it was the first time that I had been to NYU Langone and I had met many surgeons, but not like Dr. Fisher. She is a wonderful person and an amazing surgeon. I had a broken back and was bent over. My hip was in a lot of pain. I was in bad shape. Dr. Fisher took her time explaining the problem with my spine and educating me on what would happen next in the procedure, and then she told me she would do my surgery, which she did. June 21, 2021, the next day. It was a little sore, but I felt much better. I was standing straight. You know how when you have a toothache and they pull that tooth because you were in a lot of pain, you feel sore but you feel better? Well, that's how I felt. i went to her with severely compressed nerves from degenerative discs. my only symptom before surgery was numbness in my left leg. after surgery i have been unable to walk properly (sometimes not at all for weeks) and in extreme pain with new symptoms happening monthly. the neurologists who looked at the before and after mri's were completely shocked and have no idea what she did telling me the inflamation was actually WORSE in the after surgery mri. i have moved to an entirely new team at lennox hill who are also totally perplexed at what she did to me and why. this woman is not a surgeon. she has single handedly ruined my life and never did a thing to rectify or correct what she has done. the closest i have ever come to true malpractice.

I have been suffering from back pain for over 40 years since high school football until now at age 61. Other than genetic arthritis mostly in the lower back region, I suffered from extreme compression of the vertebrates L4 - L5 that really strained & impinged the nerves and squeezed the disc between. Unfortunately the medical surgical profession standard response to my stenosis, scoliosis, arthritic condition labeled mild and unremarkable by diagnosis of the battery of exams from MRI to x-ray would leave me in a state of recommendations for a host of merely the variety of pain management Only! I was told that surgery was only a last resort until I was basically incapacitated??? Really?? That’s absurd and totally ridiculous! Why can’t any credible Surgeon be good & confident enough to think out of the box of this brutally primitive school of thought? I was convinced that I would find a surgeon of common sense vision to think proactive toward preventative care by mechanically versus medicinally correcting the structural integrity of my spinal condition that left me feeling as is I were collapsing and progressively getting worse! So God gave me Dr. C. Fischer after much prayer. Dr. Fischer examined my new MRI and immediately planned to surgically insert a Titanium Disc and rods between L4 & L5.. My surgical pain only lasted a week and I was off the hard core pain killers within three days. My severe spinal compression pain of 40 years is totally gone and I have been relatively active after only two weeks. I was walking and moving comfortably after only one week. Dr. Fischer painted a Picasso in my lower lumbar region and gave me back my pain free active life of which I am eternally grateful. In addition to the mechanical surgical implants the beautiful & brilliant good doctor cleaned out a huge mass of arthritis from the facet joints as well during this less than four hour surgery. Thank You Dr. Fischer for saving the quality of my life! May God Bless you & your new child arriving soon as well as your lovely family!! ???????? Dr. Fischer doesn’t sugar coat things which is refreshing and important when it comes to neck and spine issues. She is highly intelligent, through, and passionate about her work and patients. I could not be more dissatisfied with the "patient care" provided by Charla Fischer. I was kept waiting more than an hour for my appointment. Secondly, after 5 months of physical therapy, she finally prescribed an MRI, which found several bulging/protruding discs, anterolisthesis and a synovial cyst. Unable to connect after two tries she had her nurse call me to review the MRI results. She told me I have several herniated discs; but the report said I had bulging/protruding discs. The nurse said they are all the same thing (wrong!) So do I have any herniated discs? Should I be concerned about the cyst? I have no earthly idea because my doctor/surgeon felt my care and questions were fine to put in a nurses hands. The nurse also said Charla Fischer recommended I go for pain management care and continue with PT; if those don't work we can explore surgical options. If I ever need surgery, I would NEVER put my spine again in Charla Fischer's hands.

Charla Fischer is nothing but a butcher she ran from Columbia because of all her botched surgeries. I am one of them I now live with a dropped foot because of her. I am not alone I have met others that have been maimed by her. She has little or no time for patients that are struggling with the life changing adjustments that have been caused by her. I still work full time and it has taken me some time to get used to the damage that she has caused in my life. I would not recommend her to anyone. She is nothing but a butcher and unavailable to her patient's. She never even told her patients that she was leaving Columbia to go to NYU that should tell you what kind of caring doctor she is. Dr Fisher is very patient and easy to communicate with my two levels herniated discs. After I decided to do the surgery Dr Fisher is very kind to schedule me a surgery as soon as she can with her tight schedule as I was in such a suffering. It took me some time to finally decide to do discectomy, before that I tried months of PT, acupuncture, swimming and had 3 shots, no magical happened but with symptoms getting worse. Now I’m post -op for 2 weeks, feeling great. before surgery I was super frustrated, I can’t do anything, I can’t even walk for a block nor stand up straight for 10 seconds, but now I’m so happy, living with no pain, stand up straight and I can walk outside for shopping and light grocery. As I’m told things will get better/more normal as I’m still recovering, can’t be happier. If you are suffering with the same issue as I was, I highly recommend go see Dr Fisher, and personally I recommend do it as soon as possible. Dr Fischer is a world class surgeon . If you are unaware she was handpicked to by the 2 most specialized and the world class Spinal Surgeons in the world. Dr Fischer is so gifted NYU is very lucky to have her on there team . You will be hard pressed to find a better all around spine surgeon any where . I saw 5 other spinal surgeons all Ivy League educations and 10 years more experience that all missed my diagnosis completely. Beyond this she also found areas that all 5 Radiologists missed such as a broken screw in lumbar area . Dr Fischer will excel past any other Spinal surgeon as she has proven time and time again from her track record that she will eventually set the bar for all other Spinal Surgeons. When I went to her I had to have a second surgery that had to be redone after a tragic accident . This time there was 3 times the damage of the first .I had a 5 level fusion down to the S-2 (Pelvis). She takes her time as my surgery was 7.5 hour long . You obviously can tell because there is no pain, no loss of flexibility range of motion and no limitations to what I can do . Its had been 3 years since the surgery. She was so kind nice and humble and always made herself available if I needed any information. Dr Fischer’s skills bedside manor, humility and pride in her work sets here apart from other Spinal Surgeons. Matthew Luongo Dr Fischer is a world class surgeon . A year-and-a-half ago, I was suffering from severe neck pain and back pain from a herniated disc in my neck. I was unable to sleep properly at night, and it took several attempts and additional pain meds for me to even bear lying down in the MRI machine long enough for them to finish the scan needed for a firm diagnosis of my condition. A close family friend who is a doctor had recommended Dr. Fischer to me, and now, just over a year after my surgery, I can say confidently that the recommendation has been life changing. Dr. Fischer’s outstanding talent as a surgeon is matched by the high degree of empathy she brings to patient care. She unfailingly provided me with precise, thoughtful answers to my numerous questions about the alternatives and the procedure itself (ACDF), up until around 30 seconds before the anesthesia took effect on the operating table. A year on, my fusion is proceeding ahead of schedule, and Dr. Fischer recommended PT for residual neck pain. The PT had helped me greatly, although not all spine surgeons actually recommend it, apparently. In summary, while I don’t always have titanium braces fitted on my spine, when I do, I prefer to have them afffixed by Dr. Fischer. When I met Dr. Fischer, in August 2016, at the age of thirty-four, I had been living with a chronic lower back ache, along with nerve pain which radiated down one leg, or the other, for eight straight years. I couldn’t walk, more than 2,000 steps in one day. Standing for longer than five minutes was extremely uncomfortable for me. On 9/28/16, Dr. Fischer performed my laminectomy. I feel GREAT! The chronic nerve pain is completely gone. I highly recommend seeking care from Dr. Fischer.

I left the meeting feeling tremendous gratitude to Columbia Presbyterian for once again giving me such great doctors to choose from.

I wouldn't recommend her to my worst enemy! If negative stars were possible I would give her that! She looked at an xray for 5 seconds and put me through therapy which made my condition drastically worse I literally had to be out of work for a month! I have a bulging disc herniation! Way to go Doc!

Dr. Fisher very uninterested, bored, poor answer to questions if at all - she cut me off talked over me, Very dismissive and minimized my pain and injury. She referred me to another department and told me that surgery was not necessary. I went to my primary and got an to date MRI which showed extensive damage to my upper middle and lower back just as I described. I spent maybe 5 minutes with her..Horrible horrible doctor and does not care, misdiagnosed me!!!! Try a different doctor.

Dr. Fischer is very professional, explains everything down to the smallest detail. She is an excellent surgeon & takes time to answer any & all questions that might be a concern to the patient or to their family. My surgery is very successful! I?m walking much better & have less pain than I have had in the last four years. As of today?s date of 6/13/16, my surgery was two & ? months ago & I?m doing extremely well. I'm very thankful to Dr. Fischer & her wonderful staff. Dr. Fischer is great!

I suffered from sciatica for years. Dr. Fischer is a fantastic listener and took the time to hear my concerns about surgery, clearly explaining the potential risks and benefits. After trying other non-surgical treatments we decided a microdiscectomy was the best option, and I am thrilled with the results. I have a quality of life back that I was afraid I had lost. Dr. Fischer and her staff are kind, professional, and I can't recommend them enough.

Curt seemed bored, uninterested poor answer to questions if at all - cut me off-talked over me. referred me to another department but really was unclear as to why, nor how to make the transition waved her hand as she walked out saying go to the desk they will help you. did not discuss her findings. spent maybe 5 minutes with me as first appointment
