Not just giving this 5 stars because of Dr. Varney but because of the amazing staff and nurses at this location. I waited months to see Dr. Varney based on recommendation from a friend and her reputation and because she practices obesity treatment. Visit did not disappoint! She was running behind but her nurse kept me up to date with the wait time once I was in the room and told me that I could run across the street (thank you Katie!) to deposit a check at bank. She immediately apologized when she got in room and spent a lot of time with me, totally focused on me and not rushed. Thank you Dr. Varney for REALLY hearing me and helping me finally understand this in a way I've never been told before. Overall what a great team of people! I agonized over choosing a Primary Care doctor, having recently moved 1000 miles away from my previous and beloved one. I am 200% sure I made the best possible choice with Dr. Varney! I’m fortunate to have squeaked in as a patient in time because she’s now so in demand as an obesity specialist…and after spending an hour with her at my first appointment, It’s quite obvious why she is full up! I’m just your average 40-something woman without any special issues other than trying to get a grip on the frustrating mysteries of perimenopause…and am just trying to keep my ducks in a row going forward to avoid any age and lifestyle-related health issues. Though I didn’t come to her for her specialty, I felt like I was listened to and treated with as much interest as any other patient would be. She listened, didn’t rush (even through I arrived a titch late due to traffic) and conversed with me like a very knowledgeable and caring friend and then she set me up for labwork and imaging in the UVA system…it feels like we are getting me all sorted out, together, and I have total trust in her. It is such a relief to have found her and I feel lucky to have been able to become a patient. The whole UVA Health system has deeply impressed me…from receptionists to imaging techs to nurses to Dr. Varney herself, they’ve all made me feel like a person and not just another “patient” or task in their day. Which is especially incredible in these times when we all know health care workers are (understandably!) generally overwhelmed and exhausted if not totally burning out. There has not been a hint of grumpiness or apathy in any person I’ve come into contact with, and that is truly amazing! Also, the fact that I can have my imaging, labs, rx’s, etc done at the state of the art and much closer (to me) Zion Crossroads location is wonderful! Plus the My Chart app is really great and easy to use, which is a great perk of being a patient in this system. . 2 month wait to schedule an appointment for the privelege of waiting an hour beyond scheduled appointment in an empty waiting room. Healthcare needs to do better.

Dr. Varney takes the time to listen to your issue and think outside the box if needed. She keeps up with current research in her field & offers a holistic approach to medicine.

Dr Varney always takes the time to listen to details to figure out what the root cause of the problem is so we can fix it, not just throw anything and everything at it. I never feel rushed and she’s been willing to explore other options to find what works best for me.

Dr Varney is the best doctor I have found in my life. She is wonderful doctor. She always has a positive attitude and wants to help you solve your problem!!!! I highly recommend her.

My favorite doctor. She has the best ways/analogies to help me understand medical issues, the way the body works. You can tell she’s really genuine and kind and cares about her patients, respects the staff in the way she talks about them. I feel really good there. She puts me at ease even when I’m sick.

I can’t say enough about this young (to me!) doctor. I have never had a doctor that took so much time to dig through my files, on her own time, as she did to make the best plan for me. She is so busy but she is calm, takes her time and makes the most of the time that we have. I get so much out of even our shortest visit. I wish they would give patients more time with doctors like this. What a difference that would make in so many people’s health. She is now taking care of my entire family. Me and my wife, my kids and grandchildren. She has motivated all of us to be healthier. She’s given me a dose of “tough (but tactful!) love” before but she genuinely cares about her patients. My first visit was awesome. Dr. Varney was the only Dr. in the office that particular day, she was very busy BUT she did NOT rush me. She was very thorough and easy to speak with. Excellent first impression of her and her nurse!

Very thorough and friendly. She actually actively listens and makes understandable suggestions. Highly recommend.

Takes A lot of time on the first visit to get to know you. Subsequent visits are shorter but this is I'm just understandable.
