I was very impressed with Dr Bear. He took time to explain everything and showed me on the x-ray exactly what I needed and explained why I needed it done. He also told me what to expect if I didn't have it done. Every staff member I encountered was friendly and helpful.

Very conservative

Fantastic service as always, professionalism of the highest level. A patient can feel at ease and confident, and the environment is extremely pleasing.

Dr. Bear is very respectful of your time as a patient. He is giving of his time and expertise to complete the visit with an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan including conservative treatments when applicable.

Dr. Bear is very thorough and checks everything your there to see him for. He asks questions and gives his recommendations and tells you your options.

This was my second time to the office. The first time Dr Bear never came in, an NP was sent in instead. At my next appointment I saw an NP first and then waited over an hour for the Dr to come in. Once he came in he was not familiar with my case, it was clear he had not read over the notes thoroughly. His exam/time with me felt very rushed and quick. He seemed very eager to finish with me to get out of the room to get to the next person. After waiting for an hour I expected more time and better care. I felt unimportant and sort of brushed off. For a doctor that comes highly recommended I was highly disappointed. I definitely felt like the NPs were much more through and caring.

I felt that he gave my case appropriate attention, and immediately knew how to treat. I have extremely high confidence I am in the best care available. Also he was very empathetic.

Excellent! always very welcoming and thorough in asking about my appointment. His steroidal injections are highly effective, with my last one lasting nearly 13 months for carpal tunnel. I'm at 14 months on my injection for an arthritic trapezium (thumb bone).

Explains conditions and treatments. Takes time to answer my questions. Provides follow-up as needed.

I was seen by Dr. Bear for a ganglion cyst on my ring finger metatarsal joint. Dr. Bear was personable and effectively communicated what I needed to know for treatment. He is a highly skilled surgeon. I received excellent care and my finger is healing well! I could not be happier with the surgery, care, and Occupational Therapy I am receiving. So thankful this level of specialized care is available in our community!

Dr. Bear is excellent! I don’t think there is anyone in his field that is more knowledgeable and professional. I had bilateral carpal tunnel surgery with Dr. Bear and he did an excellent job and provided excellent service throughout the entire process. He’s the best!

This was the most comfortable I've ever been with meeting a Dr. for the 1st time. He was very informative. Listened to our concerns and explained the procedure in detail with words and documentation that we were able to comprehend. His knowledge about the wrist injury was high. He made sure to explain things in terms that we could understand completely. He related very well with my son (14 years old) with his passion for sports and making a plan for minimal set back after surgery. The staff was exceptional as well. All of them were kind, and courteous. They all related well with us, and were all very friendly.

Dr. Bear performed surgery on my son’s elbow. He explained everything and even personally called him 2 days after surgery at 8PM to check on him. Can’t say enough good about him.

He meet with me listened intently to my story, took x-rays and made his diagnosis , and in detail explained the treatment that we should try, before resorting to surgery. I agreed and we began the initial phase of treatment, that same day. He made a follow up appointment in 2 months to review how initial treatment was working and to determine our course of action for future treatment. Very straight forward with common easy to understand language. I feel very good being in his hands for my condition.

After waiting over an hour to see Dr Bear the visit itself went ok. Very frustrating when you leave work for the dr appt and you get to it only to find our your dr is running at least 50 minutes behind. I could have stayed at work longer. There needs to be a better system to contact patients when drs are running that far behind schedule.

Doctor Bear is the best. I’ve had three surgeries and they were all successful. Doctor Bear also takes the time to explain what your problem is. And how He’s going to repair you. No BS Straight forward every day English God Bless him

I received an injection from the PA, Clayton Lewis It was fortunate that I didn't see Dr. Bear because he came highly recommended by Joan Glysher.

Dr Bear is very kind and personable. He explained exactly what was going on with my issue and presented all my options in a very easy to understand manner.

Dr. Bear has been my hand doctor for several years. He's the best doctor for my arthritis in my hand. He's professional l trust in him and his decisions. I highly recommend him including my husband who really likes him the treatment he's getting for his shoulder. I may need surgery in the near future but I trust in him.

When I checked in they told me the office was running behind by XX minutes. I chose to wait as I also was told I could reschedule. The office staff apologized for the wait. Dr. Bear wasn’t supposed to see me today, but after his PA reviewed my chart, worked me in. He was excellent. I didn’t expect to hear what I did, but he delivered the news well, and took my concerns under consideration. I will be seeing a Doctor in his practice for my hands, as well as Dr. Bear. I would DEFINITELY recommend him to friends and family.

Dr. Bear has been my doctor for 22 years. He's done several surgeries on each of my hands (including removing portions of bone from each hand,) and his expertise has allowed me to continue playing guitar (I play a 12-string, so dexterity and strength are imperative.) I trust his recommendations, and I trust his education and skill.

I never leave reviews on the internet however I feel i need to inform people how bad this place is. Easily the worst Dr I have ever been to. 3 of my appointments had to be rescheduled because the "doctor is not in today" yet no one ever called me to reschedule, I showed up for my appointments to be turned away. When i showed up for the rescheduled appointments i had to reschedule again because he was so delayed. It is impossible to contact the Dr, his office or the schedulers. When I broke my arm, I damaged my wrist as well. Everytime I went in i brought up my wrist but i was told "well check it out next time" and if it still hurts "well get the MRI". This happened 6 times until I saw a different doctor (surprise! Bear wasnt there for my appointment) and he scheduled my MRI for the very next week. When I went for the results 2 days later, HAD TO BE RESCHEDULED AGAIN. Also if you are supposed to get Benefits, Workers Comp or Disability, just know they have a "policy" where they dont touch paperwork for AT LEAST A WEEK. which actually means it sits on someones desk till you ask about it again and they hurriedly fill it out right there because they forgot. its amazing to me that an office and entire staff is so disorganized but is allowed to cut people open and perform surgery. The good news is that now i know and if anyone in my family ever breaks a bone, I know to stay far, far away from OrthoIllinois and Dr Bear. After I put posted this review they responded. Must be a standard response requesting I contact Katee in regards to my dissatisfaction. I responded back that I have already discussed with Katee resulting in no resolution, just many apologies. I've notified they removed their comment. Just one more ball drop, ugh. Are you kidding me. Today is May 20, 2021. I first contacted Dr. Bear's office on February 17, 2021 to schedule an appointment for my carpal tunnel as well as lumps developing on my right hand and wrist. I received an appointment of March 25th. I arrived at my appointment and was seen by Dr. Bear's physician assistant. He rushed into the room barely spoke to me, spoke to his nurse giving her notes. I finally asked him if he would like to see where all the lumps were as he had only identified one. He said yes, I showed him, and he ordered an MRI. I felt like cattle being rushed through a stall. I went to the desk they directed to schedule the MRI where three ladies sat. I stood waiting as one lady was on her computer and did not acknowledge me, one lady was on the phone with a patient, and the third lady was on the phone ordering lunch. While I stood being ignored I decided to use the facilities. I came back to the desk where the computer lady continued to ignore me, the lunch lady was still ordering lunch, and the third lady was no longer on the phone. At this point I decided I needed to think about where to have my MRI and whether I wanted to continue with this office. I called back later that day and advised I wanted my MRI through Forest City Diagnostics. They said that they would schedule the appointment for me. When Forrest City called to schedule my MRI for a unrelated issue, back,, with another doctor, I asked about the MRI for my hand which was requested prior to the MRI for my back. They advised me they had no orders for the MRI of my hand. I called Dr. Bear's office and they stated they were still waiting to hear from my insurance. Finally I heard from my insurance that they had received the request for the MRI however that's all they received. They did not receive any x-rays or backup information as to why the MRI was needed for my hand. To shorten this long, long story...Dr. Bear's office finally submitted the documentation my insurance needed and the MRI was scheduled with Forrest City Diagnostics. I explained the situation to Forest City Diagnostic, they got me in right away. HOWEVER, Dr. Bear only requested an MRI of my hand. The MRI tech. noticed the lumps on my wrist and said she would include as much of wrist as possible as it clearly needed to be included. My MRI was completed 2 days ago. They rushed the results to Dr. Bear yesterday. I called his office and scheduled a phone consult for today so we could go over the MRI results. I explained, again, my symptoms the Dr. Bear as I had his physician assistant who examined me. He has MRI, he has the physician assistants notes, and he has my information as I described it to him. At this point he decided I would need to set an appointment for him to personally look at my hand and wrist. At this point I decided this was not the office for me and I will go to Madison to have my wrist and lumps taken care of. After I put posted this review they responded. 1st I called to make an appointment for carpel and cubital tunnel syndrome, which has previously been diagnosed at Ortho. I was scheduled to meet with Dr Bear. I was expecting to get another EMG and direction on how to move forward. Shortly after I arrived, I was taken back for X-rays of just my hands, not of my elbows and hands. I asked and was told the appointment only showed for carpel tunnel. After checking in and waiting in the dr office, I was meet with Bear's PA. I called him out as not being Bear. After just a couple of minutes of him quickly looking at my hands and then my elbows (at my request), the PA said he recommends scheduling an EMG. I thought I was getting one today. Nope. A five minute visit with NOT-Dr. Bear only to find out that I need an EMG which is what I thought I was getting. Of course the next available date is 3 weeks away. Then another few days to meet with Dr Bear(?) and discuss options. So, 3 visits to discuss options on something I already know I have. I love Dr Bear...I do not love his clinical staff! I would have no complaints if it weren’t for them. They made numerous paperwork issues and errors during my carpal tunnel surgery short term disability leave. They gave the wrong surgery date completely to my work so I had issues getting paid, they ended up forgetting to send it back for 3 whole weeks it was sitting there not turned in. I actually have been back to work for 3 weeks and still have yet to be paid the rest of my disability claim because of the paperwork issue. I have a feeling they are just picking on me now!
