The best doctor ever

I waited an hour. No one said anything about the wait time. And there was hardly anyone in the office. So not sure why the wait. Staff is not friendly at all. Office is dark and old and it just adds to the whole bad experience. When I was finally called, I found out I wasn’t going to see the doctor. Then they tell me he only sees OB patients. When I asked if this is the normal wait times they said yes. No one batted an eye when I said I wanted my money back. Just awful. Never going back. I could hear the receptionists talking and they’re just rude and disrespectful when they talk about patients. I want a doctor who is more considerate of their patients and they time and makes them feel like they matter. This office made me feel anything but. Do not go there!

Folkestad is an incredible doctor. He is incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and knows exactly what he is doing. He delivered both of my daughters and my experience with both was 10/10 and if I ever have another child, I know we will be in great hands! If you’re looking for an OB, look no further because Folkestad is the one you need! He’s so personable, and makes you feel secure and safe. He covers every base in all your appointments and makes sure all questions are answered. I felt safe every time I saw him and he was always there for everything I needed. I wish physicians wouldn't lie.... I specifically went to this doctor - switched to him -because he was experienced and looked me in the eye and told me he would support me in a vaginal birth for my twins. Suddenly, the holiday schedule and "liability" became a reason why I was put on the assembly line for women to be cut the Wednesday before Christmas. It was a surgery I didn't want, I cried and pleaded for an alternative, begged for more time. And I felt like it wasn't appropriate, considering I was only 35 weeks along. The doctors at Phoenix Children's NICU subsequently reaffirmed this by asking why I had the babies early..... It's not like my water broke. They were confused by a physician who would take babies early when there wasn't an actual medical reason that day. If you love scheduled surgical births, step right up, this guy will brag about how fast he can do them. If you want someone who will support you in something that is personal to you, look elsewhere. If I had to guess, this guy's C-section rate is 75%, he cares more about liability than he does about his patient's wishes. I wish physicians wouldn't lie.... Avoid at all cost! I’m a creature of habit so instead of finding a new primary care doctor I chose to go back to my OBGYNO. Bad idea… Called in the week prior for appointment. Was scheduled Monday morning at 845am. Arrived 15minutes early only to be told I’m not on the schedule. I was then pushed to a later appointment only to wait over an hour and never see the doctor. Unfortunately Folkestads office has never been one for time management. I experienced this first hand with my first daughter followed by my second daughter. Everyone is overworked, sassy and they’re just trying to get thru the day. The phone rings off the hook and each caller is put on hold. I know because when I called for my appointment I waited over 7mins on hold and then was hung up on. Called back to wait another 5mins and then was connected. It’s pure chaos. Dr Folkestad delivered my babies 17 & 20 years ago. I absolutely LOVED him. I came here to post a review because my daughter just found out she's pregnant and she will be having Dr Folkestad deliver HER baby TOO! I'm so excited about that! The negative reviews you read on here are clearly from women who should've stayed in their castles to have their babies. If you want 24hr attention, get a midwife.

Dr. Folkestad is an AMAZING doctor! He delivered all 3 of my children via C-section and I never had one complaint about him. Every appointment he made me feel comfortable and made sure me and my babies were healthy and all my concerns were heard! He never rushed my visits, he talked me through a lot of my fear now that I’m pregnant with my 4th child. I HIGHLY recommend him! Especially if you’re a c-section mama!! Dr. Folkestad was amazing throughout my entire pregnancy! I had a 10.5 pound baby and needed a C-section, It was quick and done perfectly! I could not recommend him more, so thankful! I can’t forget the all the wonderful ladies there too!! They were always so warm and welcoming and made me feel comfortable and excited to see them every visit! Best of ever! He took time and listened when Austin had concerns. He watched my little ones very closely when I had concerns! He also left me with the smallest c section scar ever! We love you Dr Folkestad! ?

The wait here is absolutely ridiculous. You can expect to be in the waiting room for at least an hour usually more and then the exam room for another 45 mins before you are seen. The front end ladies need to be better trained. When you ask a "yes" or "no" question and get a"yes"or "no" answer there shouldn't be any grey area. They misled people about billing which can cause someone to go to collections after telling someone that they have no bill. I don't need that on my credit report when I would gladly pay. I asked if I had a bill for a reason. This caused me to get a larger bill than I can afford right now. The so-called office manager Marli wouldn't even acknowledge that her staff were telling lies. If you don't know the answer to a question then don't answer it or get someone who will know. The doctor I had however was excellent and I very much enjoyed the idea of becoming one of her patients but since it means dealing with incompetent staff members I will sadly have to pass. He is a great doctor and delivered my first child!! I have health issues and he helped me feel comfortable and safe with my pregnancy.

Dr. Folkestad delivered my son 25 years ago. I named my son after him because he was such an amazing dr. Glad to see he is doing so well.

I've been going to Dr. Folkestad for 20 years. There have been a lot of changes along the way. This last visit was too much. While wait times have always ranged in the one hour area, the admin coded the procedure differently than they have in the past, which resulted in a $300 lab fee for me. In trying to get help/clarification, the office personnel were a nightmare to deal with: Christie in Billing didn't return a phone call until three days later when I called back and left a message for the office manager (who didn't respond either). Ann from the Lab, is far from customer friendly, and Danni the nurse actually hung up on me. MARIA in billing was the light in the office -- super friendly, and actually tried to help and provide clarification. The office manager intercepted my call when I asked to speak with Dr. Folkestad, and then accused me of "threatening her employees." I have never been engaged in such a cluster mess of women in all my life. I know he sees hundreds of patients, so it won't matter that I will no longer go to him. It's hard to imagine a successful business not being customer friendly, not returning phone calls, hanging up on customers, and making false accusations. Unbelievable. Absolutely love Dr. Folkestad and the hospital staff he delivered my first baby and it was the best experience could not have been more perfect and ALL of the hospital nurses were AMAZING!!! There ultrasound tech Don is the BEST you will always get great pictures. Definitely recommend this drs office you won't regret it.

I was recommended by a close friend. I had a miscarriage at a previous facility & was treated awful. So getting pregnant again was already scary but Dr Folkestad was always answering all my questions and making me feel good during my entire pregnancy. The ultrasound techs were amazing & the entire staff was. We welcomed our first baby & I was beyond content from the first visit, labor & delivery & my postpartum visit. I find it very concerning that a previous review is conveniently missing. I thought this site was a place for patients to honestly rate their Dr. He was very unprofessional in handling the birth of my child. He induced several women at the same time, and then left. He broke my water and left. Nurses delivered my son and I was left needing to be sewn for over an hour after my delivery. Also, every office visit was very quick and he didn't want to answer any questions. He wanted us in and out. I wish I knew then what I know now. I was very disappointed in his behavior.

Being a first time Mom, I was eager to find a great Ob. I was that person who would write down questions prior to my visit and he would answer absolutely every single one. He was very professional when it came to having a high risk pregnancy. I could not of asked for a better Obgyn.

Dr folkestad is a phenomenal doctor! His bed side manner is amazing he has delivered all of my kids, there may be a wait sometimes because he runs back and forth between the hospital delivering babies, but that's his job! Totally worth the wait wouldn't go anywhere else!

Amazing doctor 10/10 would recommend.ultrasound tech and front desk ladies are so kind! The nurses and the phlebotomist with short brown hair a little fat were rude and always had attitude. The night nurses were mean to my son when changing his diaper.

Love Dr Folkestad!... He is very caring and knowledgeable! No issues with the staff who all seem friendly and efficient. Wait time can be long, but understandable since he delivers babies.

I have had 4 csections. Dr. Folkstad is the only doctor i trust with my life and the lives of my babies. Thanks to him surgery was a breeze EVERY TIME. It was never forced, confusing for me or scary... it was very happy and comfortable. My incision was perfect and i had zero issues with healing. His front office staff is extremely busy but that is because SO MANY people want to come to his office. I have had 4 csections. Let me just start off by explaining how high risk I am. I am RH negative and Iso-Immunized. My third pregnancy was heartbreaking as my son was stillborn. The doctor I had at the time refused to refer me to a high risk doctor. I have been high risk since baby #2. After losing my son in 2007, I did not try again until the end of 2013. I found out i was pregnant and I researched who to see that would take me seriously and actually listen to me. I found Dr. Johnson. He was simply amazing. He told me my titer levels and let me know I needed to pick a doctor in the area so they could all collaborate. By chance I found Dr. Folkestead and had no clue Johnson trained him. Then I was referred to Dr. Pedron across the hall from Dr. Folkestad. I literally had 3 amazing doctors on my team. They all worked together and explained in detail all of our concerns. It does take a while in Dr. Folkestad's waiting room but we couldn't care less because he takes his time with patients answering questions thoroughly and such. Also, c-section are recommended for high risk pregnancies for the safety of the baby and the mom delivering. That's common sense. Dr. Folkestad did an amazing job on my c-section. I was walking within hours afterward. Not to mention, he saved my son's life and I couldn't thank him enough for that. My son was rushed to PCH for blood transfusions as he got the RH disease the last week or so of pregnancy. The nurses for the aftercare at Arrowhead hospital were very rude and cold but that's not my doctor's fault. Dr. Folkestad came to visit me and I asked him to please discharge me sooner than later so I could be with my son (this was my 4 baby and 3rd c-section) so he agreed. Dr. Austin came to visit me the next day and I explained to her now the nurses there were treating me and she ripped them a new one. She was also the doctor I saw for my aftercare of my c-section. This office has amazing doctors all around. I'm truly surprised anyone would write even one bad review. Take it from someone who has lost a child. These doctors are nothing short of amazing. I even referred my husband's ex wife here. She trusted me and now has a beautiful baby girl. She is also very high risk like me. I would never go to anyone but this team of doctors. Amazing doctor!! Always took the time to answer all my concerns/questions and never made me feel rushed!

I love Dr F! He is very caring and knowledgeable! I have complete trust in him! I had my kids before being referred to him when my previous obgyn moved away. I never had any issues with him or the staff or NP for regular gyno visits. I recently had a supra-cervical abdominal hysterectomy so quite a few visits before and after the surgery and I really have no complaints! Dr Folkestad is the best!

Folkstad is great! The only doctor to take me seriously when it came to treating my endometriosis. Support staff is nice, although, I have been forgotten about or had my name mixed up quite a few times. Hoever, DO NOT EVER SEE DEBRA MCGONIGLE, NP. How she ever got into "women's healthcare" is beyond me. I have had SO MANY horrible experiences with her. She is VERY cold and rude. She once tried to tell me endometriosis only causes pain on my period and I shouldn't be having pain otherwise-literally the only reason I started seeing Dr's about it was because I was having pain while not on my period. She also assumed I MUST be pregnant because I got emotional! LADY, DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHERE YOU WORK??? I seriously can't stand this woman and have run into others who have had similar experiences. She used to work under Folkstad so be careful they don't schedule you with her instead. He is worth the wait!! I don't like her and I don't trust her. He an amazing doctor and that coming from someone who came to Arizona n didn't really like any doctors on till I met him he answered all my questions and he cares very much about his patients not just that every time I had an appointment he was always in an awesome mood ????

I delivered my youngest daughter with Dr. Folkstad. He is caring, communicative and professional. My oldest daughter is now going to him for the delivery of Her first child. Not only do I recommend Dr. folkstad, I trust him with my daughters a d grandbabys care and lives.

I love Dr. Folkestad! He is very understanding and knowledgeable, great staff as well. He has delivered my 3 children. The wait sucks but i don't mind waiting for Dr. Folkestad. It's understandable that he is also attenting deliveries and can be unpredictable.

Dr. Folkestad is amazing! I was delivered by him over 22 years ago, and he delivered my daughter just a year and a half ago. Recently I had become pregnant for the second time, a pregnancy that unfortunately ended in miscarriage. He was so kind and gave me amazing words of encouragement and reassured me that it was not in any way my fault. Every encounter I have ever had with Folkestad has been a great one. My mom, three sisters and myself all go to him as our OB/GYN. He is gentle, patient and very understanding, and so is his staff. My first pregnancy and everything went so smoothly! Dr Folkestad delivered my 3 younger sisters and I knew I wanted him as my Dr when I got pregnant. I never had issues and he answered all my questions and went more in depth for me. He and the office staff are amazing, I can't wait to come back with my next pregnancy! I live further on the west side, so worth the drive!

He delivered my daughter 3 years ago and I am seeing him again for this pregnancy with my son. He is SO friendly, takes his time to answer ANY and ALL questions. Goes above and beyond to make you feel as comfortable as possible. He is incredible. They also do complimentary ultrasounds throughout your entire pregnancy including 3D for free. He truly cares about his patience. I wouldn't trust or go to anyone else. I LOVE Dr.Folkstead

Dr. Folkestad is an amazing doctor, and I would recommend him to anyone. He was my doctor when I was pregnant for my daughter. Being a first time mother I didn't know what to expect but he explained everything along the way. I ended up needing an emergency C-section which he preformed and both my daughter and myself were safe. Although the wait times in the office were long unless you got in before 11 am it was well worth the wait. Staff was very informative and friendly.

I first met Dr. Folkestad and Dr. McKernan (now retired) when I was only 16, during my first womanly exam. After many years, and four children later, I am still very satisfied with Dr. Folkestad. He has an awesome bedside manner, is informative, and is very personable.

Hes a wonderful and supportive doctor until you go to the delivery room. The entire labor and delivery staff including doctor Folkstad (Minus one RN Cassandra) were cold, rude, and unhelpful. I was mocked for crying when I was told I would have to have an emergency C-section, I was dismissed when I said I could still feel the lower half of my body, I was ignored by the doctor entirely when he came in to the operating room. The only reason I knew he was in there and starting surgery was 1 the pain, and 2 I could hear his voice. After having my son I was talked down to for not having any idea how to breast feed and was then not allowed to let me see the lactation consultant. Because of this and my son not latching I was forced by the staff to give him formula. When I asked for a pump I was told I wouldn't be allowed to use one until after my milk came in. Which could be days. After having a bottle my son wouldn't even try for the breast. The doctor was non-existent for the rest of my stay. My follow ups have been just as equally heinous. I have been dismissed every time I have a concern. When I asked about birth control I was spoken to like a child. During my Post partum check up my scar wasn't even checked. I was rushed through like cattle. Please save yourself the heart ache and do not go here. The only reason I didn't have a complete panic attack is because of the one RN from labor and delivery who stayed with me the entire time. She held my hand and consoled me while I was shaking all alone (my husband wasn't allowed with me) , naked, on the operating table. She was busy helping prep though so she couldn't be there the entire time. If it wasn't for her I would not have made it through. She is a saint and the only redeeming factor of my entire stay there. Wonderful OB love the nurses as well wonderful atmosphere everyone makes you feel apart the process from delivering baby follow up visits or normal check up ..

First time seeing Dr Folkestad, but he was kind and knowledgeable. He took time with me and explained different tests and options. I look forward to being able to be a patient of his for a long time.

Dr. Folkestad delivered both of my children. My son is 6 and my daughter is 6 months. I absolutely adore him and his staff. He will give his advise but ultimately will follow your lead. He was very candid and honest.

First time to see Dr Folkestad for annual gyn appointment. It was obvious that the doctor didn't take the time to look over my medical history before coming into room. After asking me two questions he said I won't renew your hormones because the WHO says they don't work and aren't necessary. When I said I wanted to stay on them he didn't ask why or give me a chance to tell him my medical history. He spent maybe 5 minutes with me and gave to worse overall exam I've ever experienced.

His staff was horrendous! Because of his impatience I was forced to have a c-section. He never explained why I had to have it he just didn't want to wait anymore I was only in labor 16 hours and got to 9.5 cm. I will not recommend him or that hospital to my worst enemy

Do not trust this Doctor!!! He is a complete liar. He has caused me and my family a lot of pain and has made both of my deliveries a very difficult experience. I do not agree with the way this office is run. They are so quick to induce EVERYONE for NO medical reason at all. He will try to convince you its best to get baby out at 39 weeks before he/she gets too big and that it isn't healthy for the babies to stay much longer than 39 weeks. It's all a bunch of B.S. He just wants his patients to go into labor when it is convenient for HIM. But it is not natural and it ups your chances of C-Section by A LOT. (I forget the exact % but its horrifying) With my first, I fell for his B.S. and went in for my induction at 39 weeks. Went in at 9pm on a Tuesday night to start the induction process. Well.... my body and my baby was not ready and all of the pitocin that they gave me was making my poor little girl's heart rate drop like crazy so guess what... it ended in a traumatizing C-Section. Which he did a crappy job and my scar is horrible. I was too afraid to switch doctors because at least with him I knew what to expect and knew what I didn't want to do this time around. So when I got pregnant with baby number 2 I went back (HUGE MISTAKE) and told him I wanted to try for a vaginal delivery this time. He pretended to be 100% supportive of this and he literally lied and lied and LIED to my face, my husbands face and my mother's face over and over! He has a lot of nerve. Long story short, he was NOT supportive of vbac's (vaginal birth after cesarian) and he had no intention of letting me try to deliver naturally!! I had to fight with the entire staff for my 11 hours of labor to avoid an UNNECESSARY C-Section.The moment I walked in after my water broke before they even checked to see how far dilated I was, they were like "your doctors not on call, this has to be a c-section because the on call doctor doesn't do vbacs" Umm... Okay... Doctor liar face just sat there telling me how supportive this hospital was of vbacs blah blah blah. LIES. they don't care about women. Not just doctor Folkestad, but the entire hospital is HORRIBLE. Avoid this place like the plague. This doctor makes me physically SICK to my stomach. And if it weren't for my awesome nurse who was fighting for me to get a vbac, I know I would have been wheeled back into the OR and been sliced open again! Thank God for her! He is the Best!

I think the wait was worth it. To be given the attention I needed made this the best visit ever. I was very pleased with one of their young nurses, Rose. She was very clear about the procedure they were preparing me for, more so than the doctor. After she prepared me for the doctor I was not even nervous. I don't normally write bad reviews but I hope to help out someone who is looking for an OBGYN in the area. I would not recommend this place. Aside from the extremely long waits and crowded waiting area, the front office staff is very unfriendly and Dr. Austin isn't very helpful. She was very short with answering any of my questions and assumed I knew everything already ("You already know what you shouldn't eat, so we wont go over that.." but this was my first pregnancy. Everything was new to me.) The most frustrating part was that my bill seemed to be messed up every time I went in (its as if this office only deals with state insurance and doesn't understand deductibles/copayments.) Almost anytime you call you are put on hold right away and it can take a long time to get ahold of anyone. I loved my nurse and I loved the location. I am really not one to complain often, but I am sad that it was where I went for my first baby. Much of the excitement of having a baby was lost with irritation and frustration. I LOVE DR. FOLKESTAD!! He delivered my first baby and through the whole pregnancy was so encouraging and excited...Angie, his assistant is amazing as well!! whenever I would call with a crazy symptom she was so sweet to call me back and explain it to me..AND reassure me that if I wanted to come in to ensure all was ok I could. Now I am pregnant with my second and I wouldnt see anyone else! Warning there are LONG waits in the office...however, that hasnt detered me, I feel being comfortable with your Dr. is more important than waiting...Love this Office...Thank you Arrowhead OBGYN staff for being such a blessing to my little family!!
