Dr. Bradford Katchen

My overall experience with Dr. Katchen was OK, but his receptionist, Christina, was rather rude and unprofessional. First, she forgot to send me the chat room link for my virtual appointment. Since I didn't have the link by the time of my appointment, I emailed them and waited in Zocdoc's video chat room for 10 minutes past my appointment time. At last, I had to call the doctor's office to remind them, but no apologies were given. Secondly, When I visit a doctor's office in the states, the receptionists usually inform me of the co-pay before/ after my visit. Christina and the doctor's assistant here said that they were not obligated to tell me about the co-pay; it was my own responsibility to find out by calling my insurance company before I saw Dr. Katchen. OK, it's not like I'm unwilling to pay a co-pay, but the problem is -- the office didn't send out the bills by email or mail until today's phone call (October 7). I was first seen in June and had three follow-ups in late June, July, and September. They could have sent me the bill after my first visit (or at least the first two visits), so I was aware of the expense and could make my own decision whether or not I will see Dr. Katchen again. I had Rosacea back in June and my first two visits with Dr. Katchen really helped to alleviate the condition. However, I felt that my following virtual visits were more like chitchat and didn't do much to improve my skin condition (I like spicy food, so my Rosacea didn't go away completely, but I was OK with it. Besides, there was no further/different treatment compared to my first two visits). What I felt upset about was the transparency about their billing. Due to the lack of attention and professionalism, now I am forced to pay four co-pays of $280 in total, including the 3rd and 4th visits I didn't really need. There's one thing -- the reason why I didn't follow up with the doctor's office for my co-pay was because my husband is employed by Mount Sinai Hospital and our insurance offers $0 co-pay when seeing the in-network doctors, and Dr. Katchen is affiliated with Mount Sinai Hospital, according to his Zocdoc profile. In fact, I tried to ask Dr. Katchen about my co-pay during our first virtual appointment, but there was never a follow-up. I was under the impression that there was no co-pay, so I kept agreeing to the follow-up appointments. Last but not least, when I questioned about the co-pay and why the bill wasn't sent sooner, Christina also questioned about my medical experience in the states. "If you have ever been to a doctor's office, you will know that there's a co-pay for every visit". I'm sorry that my foreign accent is not perfect for you, but I had plenty of experience seeing a doctor in the states, and none of them asked for a co-pay without my consent. She claimed that they had sent me several payment notices, but I have NEVER seen one and they couldn't provide me with the history of their payment notices, either. To me, the lack of attention and professionalism (knowledge about work, empathy as well as respect for the patients, and honesty) is the dealbreaker for a doctor's office. It's a shame because I have written a positive review for this practice in the past. :(
