Dr. Beck Deal Mcallister

I have to admit that after the first time I was seen by Dr. McAllister, I questioned his methods and the extra tests that he had me to do. Now just a few months later and 3 mos after my spinal surgery, I find my self sitting in my post op appointment with him...with 0 level of pain in my spine. I now understand everything he asked of me. The pieces all fit. He is direct and to the point. He answers all my questions to my level of understanding. I am very lucky to have had him as my surgeon! The victim of a herniated lumbar disc at 40 years old is an awful experience. It's hard to describe the level of discomfort that was present at the beginning, so much that I could barely breath sometimes, or position a certain way. I couldn't put my socks on anymore, and then the worst part came, when I began to lose motor function in my lower calf muscles and begin to feel profound numbness in my foot and lose reflexes. Dr. McAlllister's team and Renee Bradford, NP at the Clemmons Spine Center were incredible from start to finish. They were compassionate and thorough. Ultimately, I did need surgery to repair my disc, but Dr. McAllister was brilliant. This is a surgery that I read where people roll into the hospital in a wheelchair, but then walk out because they feel so much better. This was the case with me. I had immediate relief post operatively, and no kidding, took no other prescribed medication afterwards. Only tylenol. Dr. McAllister is very driven and specific, and communicates with you clearly and in great detail. I have a knowledge base because I am a healthcare provider myself, but Dr. McAllister still took ample time to walk me through every step of the way, going so far as to communicate with my S.O. later that evening after surgery to check on me, even though it was a Friday and he had spent about 10 straight hours in surgeries following mine. Renee, the NP was incredibly present during all of this process, and couldn't have been more professional herself. She also didn't shy away from giving me a healthy scolding when I revealed I may have been increasing my activity level a bit to quickly post operatively. I respect that attitude and directness, because I myself am that way within my practice. This team couldn't be more together and great at their jobs. Being proficient in your specialty isn't always enough though, as there are so many more aspects of healing and surgical care that are required than just your knowledge and technical expertise. This team made me feel SAFE, and were compassionate and heard me when I was in distress. They made a terrible moment in my life manageable and gave me hope that I would be whole again. Saw him today. Maybe he read the previous reviews. To me he was kind and very succinct. No complaints from me. He did not recommend surgery but has given me a PT referral and sent helpful information to my GP. I truly appreciated his directness and explanations. Saw him today. I have never had a doctor talk to me like this before, I want a blunt doctor. But he was so nasty and rude. I could not even ask questions due to him talking so down to me. I ended the visits and walked out in tears. It’s one thing to be blunt, but nasty and cocky Is not want in want to find in a doctor.

Laurie I thought it was just maybe my thoughts or a bad day but I left my visit with the same feeling. I am a grown educated woman but when I went to ask questions he responded ,” didn’t you hear anything I have been saying???” That is not the way you treat your patients and I was a new patient at that. I will say the Dr. that came in to assist and do all the screenings and reflex tests was very easy to talk to and made me feel comfortable but as for the 10 minutes Dr. McAllister spent with me in the end of the appointment was rude and disrespectful. Cocky and rude

He was cocky and rude. My visit was a waste of time.

I have never been treated so poorly by a doctor. Being blunt is one thing, but talking to a patient like He did Is awful. I never even got to ask my question. I left the office in tears after he talked to me the way he did

I have never left a appointment in tears. There is a difference in being blunt and being down right cocky and rude. I left and would never let him treat me. I could not even ask the questions I had wrote down due to him being so rude

Very smart and has great surgical skills. Great bedside manner. Very compassionate
