I made a whole different email to leave this review in hopes that it may help someone looking for the right OB/GYN. Dr. Shamma does not listen, he leaves you in the dark in just about everything. He doesn’t seem to care about his patients concerns, and his staff is HORRIBLY inconsiderate. They laughed at me because I horrible fear of needles, the people at the front desk outright cut me off when voicing my concerns, I went to the ER (not even Thomas’s ER) because they couldn’t be reached at the office when I needed them. The nurse is kind, but she doesn’t necessarily answer any sort of questions at all. I really wouldn’t recommend anyone coming here, especially not if you want to be listened to. I elected to come here because I had heard good things, but I was horribly mislead. I made a whole different email to leave this review in hopes that it may help someone looking for the right OB/GYN. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Shamma, He pretty much saved my sons life, I lived in Florida and was seeing a doctor there that I just didn't feel comfortable with, I moved back to WV 36 weeks pregnant,Dr Shamma seen me right away, my baby had IUGR and the doctor there didn't catch it. He makes sure you understand everything, his office staff is wonderful. If you have a issue they get you in right away, and you don't have to wait long in the waiting room. I cant say enough good things about Dr Shamma! He didnt play around with the mass I had on my ovary and scheduled surgery quickly. He did everything possible to make sure that I had laparoscopic surgery even with the adhesions I had from previous surgeries. My recovery was easy and he was always friendly with a great sense of humor. His staff has always been very nice and professional. Highly recommend! I cant say enough good things about Dr Shamma! I'm appalled at the negative reviews, as this man alongside Dr. Patel saved my life, not once but twice. I had a uterine prolapse after both of my c-sections and almost hemorrhaged to death both times. He even delivered my 2nd daughter with Dr. Cotes because my daughters father passed out in the OR. HE WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, FUNNY, AND KIND. I'm actually looking into making an appointment with him asap. I decided to change my doctor toward the end of my pregnancy because it was important to me to be able to deliver my baby naturally. By naturally I mean to be able to push him out with epidural. My previous doctor was pushing a c section on me so that’s when I decided to make the change. Dr.Shamma was great at first. He had a good sense of humor and I liked that he did everything his self and didn’t have a PA. Now to the delivery. He never told me I needed to register with hospital b4 I went into labor so I was filling out paperwork in the waiting room while having contractions (my water had already broke). By the time I made it back to the room I was dilated to 5. Dr.Shamma wants you to be at 6 before you can get the epidural. When it came time to push he would only let one person other than my husband in the room. So I had to make a decision between my mother (who has seen her other grandchildren be born) or my mother in law (this was her first grandchild). Dr.Shamma told me my baby was facing the wrong direction and would let me push to see if he would turn. My epidural wore off almost immediately once I started pushing. You can imagine the pain I was in. Dr.Shamma told me “don’t scream that doesn’t do any good”. I pushed for 3 hours feeling everything and being told to stop screaming when I would. Dr.Shamma also told me toward the end of me push that I must not want my baby to come out because I had been pushing for so long. Once my baby was out he was not crying. They took him straight to the NICU because his oxygen levels were so low. While stiching me up (I can’t still feel everything) I was kind of moving because I was in so much pain. He said “stop moving and acting like that, you’re not 12 years old you are a mother now”... I kid you not. My baby’s collar bone was broken his face was bruised and he had to stay in the NICU for an extra couple of days because of his lungs. I know that I requested a natural delivery but I also discussed with Dr.Shamma that if it came to my life or my baby’s life I was ok with a c section. I feel like my first experience giving birth was not a beautiful or great experience. It was traumatizing. I would not recommend my worst enemy to Dr.Bassam Shamma. I came here based on the good reviews. Pretty sure half or more are false reviews as they are repetitive. My experience was terrible. The wait time was ok as I did show up a bit early to fill out paperwork being as it was my first time there. The nurses were very nice. When I had called and made my appt a few days prior, they had asked what issues I was having as to why I needed to be seen. When I got back into the room, I looked at the computer screen that they had left up. They had already made my diagnosis and I hadn’t even met the doctor yet. Dr Shamma came in a few minutes later, pulled a speculum out of thin air, coughed on it a few times, then preceded to confirm an already assumed diagnosis. He also kept pressing for me to have children and to bring them to him. He always talked over me and didn’t listen to any of my concerns. He then prescribed me a hormonal cream to use. I was so uncomfortable physically and mentally after that visit I immediately made a different appt for a second opinion. I go to this new appt a few days later and am blown away in the difference in care. At the end of the day, Dr Sham COMPLETELY misdiagnosed me horribly and gave me an ovarian cancer causing cream that I didn’t even need. All I needed was a simple antibiotic for a basic yeast infection. I came here based on the good reviews. Pretty sure half or more are false reviews as they are repetitive. My experience was terrible. Extremely overbooked. My medical history was taken in a open hallway alcove with some questions whispered to protect my privacy. Then i waited another 25 minutes in the waiting room. Then called to wait in a small waiting room. A hour and 23 minutes after my 10 AM appointment the Dr walks in and claps me on the shoulder saying "good news! your ultrasound is clear" The two assistants made it clear wrong patient, Dr makes a nice compliment about not looking my age and leaves! As he is departing he tells his assistant this is your fault, wrong room I assume. He says nothing like see you in 10 minutes or sorry for the confusion. After waiting another 10 minutes I leave the office and will never return. Take it for what you will, so disappointing. Also, all the girls in the office were very nice. When I called later in the day to make sure i was nor charged she said no I was not charged and hung up on me.

Dr. Shamma is a good doctor, but does not have a good bedside manner. He always has students with him and you are treated like an object instead of a person.

Horrible doctor. I should have sued him. He done my sterilization when I was younger. He acted fine in the office. Now that I look back to it he did act strange. The day of my surgery while I was prepped getting ready to go back he said “ Medicaid won’t even pay for this surgery”. He said this right in front of me to doctor Kessler. This surgery was horrible. The worst surgery I have ever had. I believe he abused me somehow. I couldn’t straighten up when I walked for two weeks. My calf and back muscles were pulled very badly. I was terrified to go back to surgery after he said that to the other doctor right in front of me. If that happened today at the age I’m at, I would get straight up, and walk away. My insurance always pays. I should have got up off that table went straight, and reported him on the spot. I still have no idea what happened to me in that operating room. It bothers me to even think about it. I had a full hysterectomy, and was in way less pain than that minor surgery. She done a great job on me. I swear I should still report him. Horrible doctor.
