About Mr. Barry Eibschutz
Reviews for Mr. Barry Eibschutz
He's a good doctor but his staff is lacking. Playing phone tag and leaving messages. I was told that I couldn't have my lupus medication renewed until I see him next month. I've been taking that medication for years and it's kept me out of the hospital. I know that if I don't take it my life becomes difficult quickly. I requested they ask him to renew it before my appointment and I was dismissed and told that would be illegal. That makes no sense since it isn't a controlled drug and I don't think he would want me to stop taking it. Was told to go ask another doctor for a Rx. I just wish they would have asked him that's all I wanted. I hope I'll be ok until I see him. I look forward to my appointment with him.
Dr. Eibschutz was my first attempt at seeing a rheumatologist. Every appointment ended up the same: no answers to my questions, no curiosity or effort on his part to help me explore my issues. I thought "I must be expecting too much", but eventually switched docs for a second opinion. Now I can see that it wasn't me, my new rheumatologist is caring and concerned. Dr. Eibschutz simply didn't know or care enough to help me find out what's wrong with me once the test results were inconclusive. His dismissive attitude was incredibly frustrating, as was having to wait for MONTHS in between appointments (it's not just new patients who get a raw deal) and having to deal with rude front office staff. I would never recommend this kind of health "care". There was no caring going on here at all.
I’ll start by saying the front desk is amazing and has been so patient. I moved from San Diego recently where i am established with Scripps and still telemedicine with various specialists and PCP. However, having the rheumatologist local was important to me considering flareups and what not. I pleaded with them to consider taking me in as my rheum (whom he knows) had a stroke and I really needed to be seen. For 3 months i have been going through the process of getting documents over so this Dr. can finally see me. But now he is requesting l get a local PCP as if he is the only specialist I see. This was previously known, so not sure why prolong the hassle if it was an upfront requirement. It is my prerogative who I choose as a primary and much rather stick with the team of doctors that have been with me for 8 years now. I wont throw my whole care regimen for a loop bcs he requires a local doctor in an era of telemedicine and excellent care no matter where you are. Not to mention, it takes months to even go in and see a new doctor. This guy may be good but very rigid, lacks compassion and behind on the times. I just wasted 3 months of my time where I could have seen someone else by now. I’ll start by saying the front desk is amazing and has been so patient. Having an osteoporosis diagnosis for almost 7 years no doctor ever bothered to check my parathyroid levels but Dr. Eibshcutz. He referred me to Stanford to an excellent surgeon who successfully removed what was necessary. I am so thankful to have found Dr. Eibschutz and looking forward to improving even more under his great care. Yes, it took several months to get in but I was persistent. I believe the office has now resolved this issue as it is much easier to communicate now. Dr. Eibschutze and his staff are a poorly run clinic with less than compassionate care. I am now being taken care of by USC and under treatment. As it turns out, my case is a bit complicated but nothing a rheumatologist couldn’t handle. I think he could have been more helpful and compassionate. Maybe he is just happy with his infusion center and doesn’t care or need to help anyone else. I wasted and suffered for almost one year because of him and his staff.
The office is hard to get a hold of. They don’t return calls. The dr denied my referral and didn’t give a reason why. Definitely go elsewhere for care, not happy at all Update: my referral and labs show something autoimmune going on that needs to be investigated further. They asked me to do labs and they further proved something was going on. They then took two weeks to review them and came up with that excuse. I work in healthcare and I know the process. That’s a month when I could’ve been looking elsewhere for care. It was a waste of my time but thankfully I can afford to travel and am going to another dr with ucla who will actually investigate further. The office is hard to get a hold of. Dr. Eibschutz diagnosed and treated my condition properly and professionally. He was kind, caring, and generous. He is a fine doctor. His staff on the other hand are rude, dishonest, and seem to feel they dont need to treat patients the same way their employer does. I was lied to, phone calls not returned, and completely ignored. They treated pharmacies the same way. Unbelievable and unprofessional!
A well run office. The Infusion Room is fantastic/
Rude, does not listen to or address my concerns, does not answer questions, zero empathy, support staff poor.
Dr. Eibschutz is the best rheumatologist I have ever had. I drive 2 hours each way to see him and it is worth it. He is extremely knowledgable about new and emerging treatments and even treatments outside of his speciality. He is very friendly and personable. The environment is nice and the staff is friendly.
Horrible! There is no option for zero stars. Very dismiss and lazy.
Was given a physical exam, and Dr. Eibschutz ordered several tests and said explicitly that we would discuss my situation and tests the next time we met. There was NO next time. When I called to make a 2nd appointment, I was told by a member of his staff to return to my family doctor, who, in turn, was as puzzled as I regarding what Eibschutz's opinion/diagnosis was of 'my situation'. I was referred to this Doctor by my primary that had run blood tests for the inflammation marker ANA. After trying to set an appointment for several days playing phone tag. They sent my primary a cryptic email saying that Dr. Eibschuts didn't feel it was warranted to see me. NICE! So I had to go through the process again trying to find a Rheumatologist, mean while in extreme pain. Finally, I was able to get into see another Doctor who was able to immediately diagnose my issue, Psoriatic Arthritis! Not a good look Eibschutz, you missed this one without taking the time. After reading all these reviews I'm actually relieved he turned me away without even looking at me. I feel sorry for those others that weren't so lucky. In response to the staff response: I believe you have missed the point, we are human beings not to be equated to Lab results. Lab results should not be the only thing that is looked at, they are not infallible. My situation (and others that have complained) are my case in point. Good day to you. I really enjoy having Dr. Eibschutz as my Rheumatologist. He is incredibly friendly and I appreciate that he is direct. He takes my questions into consideration, and I do feel that he is glad when I am feeling well. His staff always gets back to me when I call. I would absolutely recommend him.
He has been my doctor for over 20 years. I love that we approach my Rheumatoid Arthritis as a team.
Office support is horrible. I left multiple messages and received no responses. Their portal (or their users) don't work. I submitted a question and only received my message back. I was supposed to have lab work, which was holding up a refill, and nobody told me I needed lab work. The doctor seems knowledgable, but the office support is scary bad.
I love him ! Patient, listened and explained. Very thorough and professional.
Excellent Rheumatologist. Caring and listens.
Such a horrible experience- i was a patient here had all the tests he has the WORST bedside manner and basically told me my Lupus was in my “head” well I went to another Dr and I”ve been successfully been treated & diagnosed- unfortunately only after damage was done....... don't waste your time here Not worth your energy ???????? As a new patience, referred by my general practitioner, It took me weeks just to be able to coordinate a call back with the receptionist to make an appt. Once I was able to speak to her I was told that my appt would be scheduled 4 months out. I received a lengthy packet in the mail to fill out and return. Unfortunately I had a serious family emergency arise and forgot about the packet altogether. Since my packet was not received 2 weeks prior, I was told that my appt was canceled, I could not bring it with me to the appt and that the next available opening was in 6 months. This is obviously not the kind of concerned medical care I’m looking for. My dealing with the staff in their attitude, seemed like they were doing me a favor rather than me being a paying customer on top of the lack of compassionate care. Consequently I made an appt at Sansum clinic where I received my appt schedule with a general practitioner and Rheumatologist in the same day and its in two weeks. Plus it’s great medical and compassionate care. I recommend trying Sansum Clinic. One of the smartest doctors I have ever met. He is a great diagnostician, wonderful with patients, and speaks a language that his clients can understand. Not wanting to endorse the comments regarding insurance and phone calls, I would simply like to reiterate the positive ones regarding the doctor himself. He is a healer. Dr. Eibschutz is worth waiting for; yes it took months to become a patient. Busy doctors are good indications of Good Doctors. Thank you Dr. E for your desire to improve the quality of my life. Over the last, busy 24 months together, you have turned my life around. I am no longer in constant pain and nearly bedridden. I have a life again. For this there are no adequate words of thanks. My elderly mother was seen by Dr. Eibschutz immediately, and he was kind, patient, and one of the nicest doctors I’ve encountered in a long time. My mother’s case is quite severe, and she has other health conditions that made her wary of taking any medications. I’m impressed with how the doctor has been willing to work with her, address her concerns, and find the best course of treatment in her case. I can’t say enough good things about the staff, and their expertise in navigating Medicare. Everyone has been wonderful about answering my mother’s endless questions! Dr. Eibschutz is outstanding in every respect. He changed my life and saved me from musc agony, disfugurement, and pain. His treatments worked for me and allowed me to continue to work and play as I did before being struck with RA.
NO ONE EVER! EVER answers the phone. Never ever. by design

I’ve been seeing Dr. E since 1998. He is the best and I can’t imagine seeing anyone else, especially since I was seeing another rheumatologist prior to him. He’s knowledgeable and has helped me through many of my health issues. Many years ago he did have a receptionist that was difficult to deal with, but she is looong gone and Julie is very pleasant and accommodating. His staff is top notch and I have been very satisfied with the whole experience. He’s usually 2 months out, but well worth the wait! If I end up leaving the state, which I am considering , I would miss him the most!!! I’ve been seeing Dr. E since 1998. Horrible Doc. Said I did not have fibro when in fact I do and got on proper treatment and am now doing much better. He helped me zero.
Dr. Eibschutz is a very caring health care provider. Although I had to wait three months to get an appointment to see him, I can say it was well worth the wait. After a thorough intake interview in his office, I had a good physical exam by the doctor. He actually took the time himself to do the weight and height and all the things normally done by an office assistant. He's a "hands on" kind of doctor and seemed genuinely interested in learning my concerns and addressing them. Highly recommend.

I really like Dr. Eibschutz but he doesn't know anything that is not common. In other words, he knows about RA, or Lupus, but if you have anything remotely rare, he doesn't know anything. In fact, the last time I saw him, he took notes about my disease for another patient he has. And I paid him. I like that he's trying to learn but he should learn by talking to other doctors, doing research, going to trainings, etc. I like him but do not trust his knowledge.

Worst doctor I've ever been to. Keeps running tests till gets results he wants then says he was right. Get a second opinion! Told me one thing then gave me printouts to read that said he was wrong. Hard to believe he is really a doctor.
DONT WASTE YOUR TIME LIKE I DID! Family referral, tried to get appointment for months!!! AND this Doctor is on my preferred list through our Commercial PPO health insurance that DO NOT need a referral... This office takes Obamacare to heart! (NOT A GOOD THING FOR ANYONE!!!). It will take you days just to get through and have someone call you back in the office! Doctor will not "waste his time" on you unless he sees an "inflammation" marker on a blood test (sad that I had a broken foot and my hands have been too swollen to wear my rings for the last 3 months after killing them with a few hours of crutch use when I had test done). Since RA runs heavily in my family, I thought that I would at least be able to physically see the doctor to get a real check up and have a more active, pain free (or at least less pain). NOT the case! My doctor's office calls me and tells me to go back next year for a follow-up, that everything looks good! ...Don't know who they saw, cause my aching self never drove to San Luis Obispo!!! This office does not care about the people, obviously!!! Verified OA and PT records in my file... Back to the Internet and self diagnosis and treatment! SAD DONT WASTE YOUR TIME LIKE I DID! Top-notch physician and staff! Very professional, great bedside manners, clean office environment.
He is a very good doctor and listens to your issues, however getting an appointment with him is a nightmare. The office staff don't care if you have an appointment scheduled for 6 months out and then they keep pushing it. If they have a scheduling conflict they just push you out after the last appointment they have.
