Arnold Knepfer

I was in and out of inpatient psychiatry at Marin General Hospital, in 2014 thru 2016. Two of those visits I was assigned Dr. Knepfer. Ive cycled through many psych professionals over the years and Knepfer stands out to me as one of the worst practitioners I have ever had to rely on for help of any sort. The first time he dismissed me and told me all my problems were due to alcohol, which was inaccurate as i had just experienced multiple traumas months prior. The second time i was assigned him, he had no idea who i was, zero recollection whatsoever. When I said my meds were making me suicidal and that i wanted to change meds, he asked if i would him like to raise the dose? After that meeting, later in the day, he finds me in the common area to walk up to me to tell me he saw my paperwork and now remembers me, how he disagrees with my medical cannabis card but since hes a libertarian he thinks all drugs should be legal and that i should quit drinking and just walks away. A Bizarre man.

Terrible doctor, cold, unsympathetic, and caused more upset when I was in midst of severe bout of depression and needing help. He should NOT be practicing bc he has obvious lack of interpersonal ability, he does more damage than help people. Awful that this is a doctor. Terrible experience.

I was an orderly on the psychiatric unit at Ross General Hospital 54 years ago. Dr. knepfer was one of the most highly respected psychiatrists in the community. He was well regarded by staff and his patients. Dr. Knepfer was bright, personable and empathetic. I often thought of his wisdom during my subsequent doctoral psychology training.

Horrible. He was unsympathetic, had no empathy and couldn't wait for my appts. to be over. He used to eat his lunch during my appts. with a scowl on his face. He really didn't care to sit and listen to me. He was despicable.
