I've never been so unhappy about my lip coming here, it has been ruined by the Binghamton plastic surgeon, an experience I will never forget. In April 2017, I had an incident where I bit the bottom of my lip. After some weeks, I recovered quickly and a piece of my lip sat in place, which felt normal. However, there was a slightly rounded bump. You would think going to a plastic surgeon to look and feel happy about yourself, unfortunately not so much in this case. I decided to visit Dr. Mata because I had work done before removing beauty marks on my face, which turned out to be acceptable. After he examined my case, the surgery took place in July 2017. Later, I followed up to remove my stitches although I requested not to have them overly stressed. Seeing the outcome I was disappointed and displeased. It looked and felt worst than ever. It is a noticeable appearance, whether resting or talking face, where my lip line no longer naturally sits straight as did before. There is a crease or dip, which I did not have before the surgery. I believe too much of the tissue was removed and the stitches were too tight forcing it to heal the way it did. Now I have an unpleasant numb feeling I have to deal with for the rest of my entire life. I began to think the surgeon has never done this kind of procedure even with his 30+ years of experience. I like to look good, instead, it has made me insecure because I enjoy singing, and taking photos and videos for a broader audience. A slight numb feeling arises here or there. I feel embarrassed, less confident, and uneasy speaking most of the time, which is infuriating and not what I am comfortable with. It may not be a big deal, however, anytime I view photos, and videos during the day and night, you can see where it's noticeable under every lighting condition. I will no longer have that natural luminance at any angle. So after 6-8 months, I saw Dr. Mata again to see if he could fix it. He suggested I should massage it and give it time since the surgery was necessary to prevent future disease development, but that did absolutely nothing. I followed up again 2 years later to find out it was a pointless procedure and he did not want to fix it. This left the impression that the doctor only did it for the money, with no thought or care as to how it appears in the future. I use to consider my lip a beautiful attractive feature of mine. Now? that peace of mind and happiness is gone. It puts me in a place of constant disapproval in the mirror. I wish it could be fixed, but I will live with a "butt cheek reflection on my lip. If you are planning to have anything done here for your lip, I would not recommend it, do not visit. Think twice before you do because it can potentially affect you in the long run mentally and physically. The surgery cost $1,600+ from Lourdes Hospital after insurance. Terrible experience and a waste of time. Things could be a lot worst, however, I am reminded every moment and feel the trauma from it.

Dr Mata and his staff are very personable and friendly. Would definitely recommend him to friends and family!

Dr. Mata is amazing! The sweetest man. I am so happy I saw him and he helped me make the best decision for me. He is a man of character and ethics and will do what is best for you. Very charming, kind and funny. Highly recommend him!

Doctor had no care for why I was there. When trying to explain why I was looking to get something done he constantly replied that “he’s not the one that needs convincing. I can give him any story I want”. He also walked into the office asking a question totally opposite of why I was visiting. I do not recommend. Also asked no questions of medical history. I had a mole cut out and I do not like the way the scar from it healed. It really bothers me that the scar looks like a stitch. I will have this scar for the rest of my life. I was also suppose to have my birthmark removed located on my shoulder. It was scraped off and sent for a biopsy. Well it didn’t come back with any cancer cells but the doctor wanted to cut it out. I had to ask was I going to die if he didn’t remove it. The doctor couldn’t give me a straight answer. I’m going to have a second opinion. My child’s primary had us call Dr Mata due to him having originally seeing him for similar issue a couple years back. After calling the office, they initially declined to see him and gave us the number for a different doctor to call. After calling back Dr Mata’s office back and discussing with them how the other plastic surgeons office thought it was “very strange” to have been given the number of a different Doctor, the office scheduled us an appointment. Dr Mata barely examined the child, and diagnosed him with a bizarre idea that the wound was actually a growth, even though it was witnessed event and caused by trauma. Dr wanted to schedule my son for general anesthesia and surgery without any further discussion of how his findings didn’t seem to add up. Obtained a second opinion form a oral surgeon which advised us that the findings were, as we suspected, just bizarre and incorrect. On the plus side, his staff was very friendly and caring. I highly recommend this incredible team. They are beyond professional and experienced. If I could I’d give them 10 stars. I moved out of the area but will go back to them for any treatment needed. He’s fun and an outstanding physician. I should have posted this years ago. The community is lucky to have him.

Dr mata completely botched my breast reduction and nipple graft in 2018. We had agreed on a c cup and I woke up less than an a. When I told him I couldn’t find a bra that fit, I was too small, he told me “just don’t wear one” I also told him my left nipple was leaking fluid and he sarcastically asked if I was pregnant and never addressed the issue. I wrote him a letter afterwards explaining how upset I was with my results and still haven’t heard a word from him 3 years later. FIND A SURGEON because MATA is a BUTCHER. He's amazing and his staff and wife is extremely sweet.

Dr. Mata was very professional and respectful. He listened to me. I would highly recommend Dr. Mata. Addendum I would also like to add that Dr. Matta’s staff are highly professional and very friendly and accommodating.

The receptionist that answers the phone is rude and unprofessional she has no manners and needs some! Immediately!

Dr Mata wasted no time in excising the squamous cell carcinoma from my leg. He was humorous and reassuring: a great bed side manner. His staff have been courteous and quick to respond to every phone call I make. I am very satisfied with the treatment I have received from Dr Mata and his staff.

Professional and well mannered

Dr Mata is very knowledgeable, personable and professional. He has excised multiple skin lesions for me ( and several family members) and has always done a great job. The office is a busy place, but it’s worth the wait to be seen by him.

Staff was very pleasant

I was referred to Dr Mata by my primary care physician for a lump on my neck. Dr Mata merely looked at it, said it was infected, and scheduled me for surgery the next day. He assures me that it would be done under local anesthetic and I wouldn’t miss any work, then left the room before I could ask questions. I was not warned that I would be restrained for the procedure, which is a huge trigger for me (PTSD). He also failed to warn me that local anesthetics don’t work on infected areas. Dr Mata laughed at me about my “low pain tolerance” while I screamed in pain and fear. To add insult to injury, he kept telling me how much the cyst was draining. He asked if I wanted to see, to which I of course responded no - but he shoved a pus-covered QTip in my face anyway. Zero bedside manner. Zero patient care. I wouldn’t see this man again if I was dying and he were the last doctor on Earth. I was referred to Dr Mata by my primary care physician for a lump on my neck. My 91 year old father had a questionable spot on the back of his neck. He had an office visit and was told it had to be removed. He was scheduled to arrive at the hospital at 9:30 AM for a 10:30 SURGICAL PROCEDURE. This tiny spot could have been easily removed in an office setting. We waiting THREE hours just to be taken into pre-op! Then another 30 minutes before they took him in for a procedure that took less than 15 minutes! RIDICULOUS! My father was shaking and faint after since he had not eaten prior to his appointment. They had little concern for my fathers health or time, or mine! This is some kind of scam, doing these procedures in the hospital. An insurance scam! They get away with it because Binghamton is small and patients have limited options. Shame on the doctor, SHAME ON Lourdes for their shifty ways!

Took one look at my neck (no exam) and said it was infected, scheduling me for surgery the next day. I wasn’t warned that I would be restrained, which is a trigger for me. Also not warned that local anesthetic doesn’t work on infected areas. Dr Mata decided it was appropriate to laugh at me for my “low pain tolerance” while I screamed in pain and fear. Worst experience of my life.

I do not know where I'd be without Dr Mata's excellent skill and care. He turned a skin cancer disaster into an actual improvement in appearance and a seamless surgery. He may seem a bit gruff at first, but is caring, thorough and by far the best plastic surgeon in town. I wouldn't even consider going to anyone else for the kind of care I would expect in a big city. I had a very questionable experience. The lesion in question was not even examined. Rather was scheduled for surgery for removal. He suggested that I consider a face lift and questioned if I had previously had a nose job since he thought my nose was smaller than usual. Does not do routine procedures in office. Requires all to be done in the OR. Pretty sure this may be a more expensive charge back to insurance. Opted not to have him treat me. Didn't feel confident in his diagnosis.
